Retiree keeps massive lottery win secret for months
Derek Sealy, 72, of Aurora, Ont. won the second prize worth $206,706.20 in the Lotto 6/49 May 28, 2025, draw.
Derek Sealy has been keeping his $206,706.20 Lotto 6/49 win quiet for months while he makes plans to invest and consider his next steps.
The 72-year-old retired Aurora man says he's been playing the lottery regularly for decades, and despite this being his first big win, he's remained cool and collected - and secretive.
'After the draw date, I checked it on my phone and realized it was a winner,' he shared while picking up his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. 'I felt normal and at ease.'
Sealy purchased the winning ticket at Open Door Variety on Yonge Street in town and won the second prize in the May 28 draw.
"I still haven't told anyone about this win yet," he smiled.
Lotto 6/49 costs $3 per play with two multi-million-dollar jackpots up for grabs every Wednesday and Saturday.
