CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — The Craven County Sheriff's Office made 35 arrests related to illegal drugs and weapons. They're calling it, 'Operation March Badness'.
Those 35 arrests were made over the past three months and include different drug and gun charges. Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said that a lot of these arrests were made with the help of tips from the community. Around 338 grams of heroin and fentanyl, 114 grams of methamphetamine, 167 grams of cocaine, 20 dosage units of pills, 14 illegal guns and $2700 were seized. The $2700 will either be put towards the county's school system or will go to the sheriff's office.
'We had open borders, the flow of fentanyl into this country, we were going to have a huge problem. We still do. But I think we're moving in the right direction and we're going to get a handle on it. My concern is here locally, and I will tell you what the men and women of this office are doing in conjunction with our partners, phenomenal.' said Sheriff Hughes.
Hughes also encouraged people to reach out to his office or Crime Stopper if they believe illegal drug activity is going on in their community.
