Two held with stolen cellphones at Muzaffarpur junction

Patna: Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two persons, who were involved in theft of cellphones from train passengers, at Muzaffarpur junction on Wednesday evening. Both were nabbed during a routine security check under the ongoing 'Operation Suraksha', which is aimed at enhancing passengers' safety during journeys, said Muzaffarpur RPF inspector Manish Kumar. According to Kumar, the arrests were made after a team led by sub-inspector Sushmita Kumari spotted two men alighting suspiciously from a moving train in the railway yard as the Anand Vihar-Sitamarhi Lichchivi Express (14006) arrived at the station. The team immediately challenged the duo and conducted an on-the-spot search, he said. During interrogation and search, four cellphones, suspected to be stolen from passengers, were recovered from their possession. The estimated value of the recovered phones was around Rs 1 lakh, the RPF inspector said. After following standard procedure, the arrested persons were identified as Ladle (46) from Manhari in Muzaffarpur, and Amod Kumar Sah (28) from Dumra in Sitamarhi. The RPF handed over the two to the Muzaffarpur GRP for further legal action, registering a case under Sections 317, (4), 317 (5) BNS 20023.

Burglars mock Rourkela police, steal from officer's house on police station campus

ROURKELA: In a daytime burglary, unidentified thieves broke into the official quarters of a police officer located within the Plant Site Police Station campus, escaping with gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 15 lakh on Saturday. The incident came to light after Havildar Subrata Hota of the Reserve Office (RO) lodged a complaint on Saturday night. The audacity of the theft has made a mockery of the police, particularly in light of the ongoing Operation Suraksha, which aims to curb property offences and keep habitual offenders under surveillance.
