Woman among seven held in drug raids

LAHAD DATU: Seven people including a woman were detained and 56.85 grams of Syabu were seized in two separate raids at Tungku and Felda Sahabat, here, on Saturday. District Acting Police Chief, Supt. Jimmy Panyau said, the suspects were arrested following the Ops Tapis carried out by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (JSJN) of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters. 'In the first raid at Kampung Tulibas Kecil, four men aged between 35 and 51 were detained after the police found 51.50 grams of substance believed to be Syabu in their possession. 'The team also seized two motorcycles and cash of RM520. All four suspects were also tested positive for taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,' he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. According to Jimmy, three other suspects including the woman aged between 26 and 37 were detained following a raid at Felda Sahabat 1. When arrested, the team discovered 5.35 grams of Syabu inside a cigarette's box. 'The two men were tested positive for taking drugs while the woman tested negative. 'Investigation is carry out under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,' he said. Jimmy said, all the suspects were currently in their custody and will be remanded for further investigation. 2 gang robbery suspects held in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Police believe they have solved a gang robbery case in less than 24 hours with the arrest of two suspects on Monday. District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy Panyau, said the two suspects allegedly robbed a 47-year-old man at Lorong Kiosk Dataran Palma about 11.30pm on Sunday. 'The two suspects attempted to hurt the victim before taking away his personal document and cash. 'The duo aged 17 and 18 were arrested late this morning near the scene. They tested positive for taking drugs,' he said. Jimmy said further investigation is ongoing under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code. In separate cases, police detained three men in the Ops Tapis carried out at Jalan Pantai and Kampung Puyut on Sunday. Jimmy said all three suspects were detained for possessing and drug abuse. Advertisement 'The first suspect, a local man aged 24 was detained for having 0.07 grammes of syabu while the second suspect, a 26-year-old Filipino was detained with 0.14 grammes of syabu. The second suspect also did not possess any identification document and tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. 'The third suspect, a 33-year-old local was detained for possessing 0.15 grammes of syabu and tested positive for taking drugs. Prior to his arrest, the suspect acting aggressively, attempted to escape from the police,' he said. Jimmy said all the suspects were currently in their custody and would apply for remand under Section 117 of Criminal Procedure Code for further investigation. Two held over drugs in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: A local man and a Filipino were detained during the Ops Tapis operation carried out by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters at Kampung Puyut, Jalan Pantai, here on Saturday. District Acting Police Chief, Supt. Jimmy Panyau said, the first suspect was detained at about 11.50am. Advertisement He said, police found 0.15 grams of substance believed to be Syabu in his possession. The suspect was also tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. 'The second suspect, a 42-years-old local man was detained at the same location after the police found 0.53 gram syabu hid inside a RM50 note. 'The suspect who had six previous criminal records related to drugs was also tested positive for taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,' he said. Police nab three undocumented men, recover RM8k worth of syabu
LAHAD DATU: Three undocumented foreign men were arrested, and over RM8,000 worth of suspected syabu was seized during a raid at a hut in Kampung Ubi, Jalan Kenangan, yesterday. The operation was carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Lahad Datu district police headquarters. "Drugs suspected to be syabu, weighing 73.30g and valued at approximately RM8,063, were confiscated," the Lahad Datu police said in a statement. Police also seized several items believed to be associated with drug distribution and abuse. Urine tests revealed that two of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, while the third tested negative. "All suspects, aged between 27 and 48, did not possess any valid identification documents," the statement added. The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted under Section 39B, the suspects face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane. Additional penalties may apply under Section 15(1)(a) for drug use. The arrests were part of ongoing enforcement efforts under Ops Tapis, a nationwide initiative to combat drug trafficking and abuse, particularly in high-risk areas like Sabah.

Anti-drug ops: 36 held in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: Some 36 individuals, including nine women, were arrested during a series of anti-drug operations (Ops Tapis Narkotik) carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Sandakan District Police from April 25 to May 3. The integrated operations targeted several known hotspots around Sandakan, including Kg Sim Sim, Kg Mangkalinau, Kg Batu Putih, Bandar Letat Jaya, Bandar Ramai-Ramai, Sandakan town centre, PPR Taman Murni, STC Jetty Port, and surrounding plantation and hotel areas. Of those arrested, 27 men and nine women, ranging from teenagers to adults, were detained under various provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, including Sections 39B, 39A(1), 12(2), and 15(1)(a). Urine screenings revealed many tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. On April 26 in Kg Disayang, one man and eight women tested positive for drug use. On May 2, seven men were arrested at STC Jetty Port, including one detained under Section 39A(1) for possession of drugs in large quantities. Another major case involved an arrest under Section 39B for drug trafficking, an offence carrying the mandatory death penalty. District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the operations reflect the police's continued commitment to tackling the drug menace. 'Ops Tapis is being carried out intensively as part of enforcement and prevention efforts to break the drug distribution chain in the district. We will continue to target hotspots and take firm action without compromise,' he said.
