MyVisa 2.0 to elevate Immigration digital services

Ever-ready team: Elite Immigration enforcement personnel conducting a drill showcasing their operational capabilities. — RAJA FAISAL HISHAN/The Star PUTRAJAYA: Enhanced digital service delivery from the Immigration Department for electronic visa applications is in the pipeline with the launch of MyVisa 2.0. The upgraded system was launched yesterday in conjunction with the 103rd Immigration Day celebrations and is slated for rollout on Aug 1. 'It is an enhanced version of the original MyVisa system introduced on Dec 1, 2021. The new system has been developed as an integrated digital visa platform, offering faster, safer and more efficient application experiences, in line with the expectations of citizens and international visitors who prioritise convenience in public services. 'MyVisa 2.0 incorporates various advanced technologies such as Optical Character Recognition, real-time notifications, smart automation and a dedicated mobile app for applicants. 'It provides a fully digital visa application process, including passport scanning, document uploads, virtual interviews, real-time tracking, eVisa approval with QR codes and interactive support via live chat,' the department said in a statement yesterday. It added that the new system will no longer require applicants to head to the Malaysian Representative Offices abroad. The 103rd Immigration Day celebration ceremony was launched by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah on behalf of Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution. He left the event before its conclusion to attend another meeting. Earlier, Saifuddin Nasution said the country is still behind despite embracing artificial intelligence (AI). 'Today, we embrace AI, but we are still three years behind. 'But if we don't start now, we will be 30 years behind,' he said in his opening speech. The minister urged the department to send officers for AI training at local universities. 'Send personnel to local public universities such as UKM and UiTM in batches. 'Give them the opportunity to attend one- to two-week courses to gain knowledge of AI and develop the skills needed to use AI tools, which are evolving rapidly day by day.' Saifuddin Nasution also urged the Immigration Department to increase its commitment to combating graft within its ranks. 'With reforms anchored on efficient governance, strengthened integrity and impactful service delivery, I hope the department will uphold a zero-tolerance policy against corruption,' he said.

Immigration launches MyVisa 2.0 for faster, fully digital visa applications

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department has announced the launch of MyVisa 2.0, an upgraded digital visa platform aimed at strengthening public service delivery, particularly in the immigration sector. The system, which will go live on Aug 1, is an enhancement of the original MyVisa platform introduced on Dec 1, 2021. "MyVisa 2.0 is designed as an integrated digital platform to provide a faster, safer and more efficient visa application experience, in line with the expectations of citizens and international visitors who prioritise convenience in public services. "The upgraded platform features advanced technologies such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), real-time notifications, smart automation and a dedicated mobile application for applicants," it said. MyVisa 2.0 enables a fully digital visa application process — from passport scanning, document uploads and virtual interviews to real-time tracking, eVisa approval with QR codes and interactive assistance through live chat where applicants will no longer be required to visit Malaysian missions abroad. Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the new system incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and security. "Applicants will no longer need to visit our offices. AI will verify their location, process applications and, if necessary, interviews will be conducted virtually using the system. This is part of the improvements under MyVisa 2.0. Zakaria said the system targets foreign nationals who require visas to enter Malaysia. "For countries that do not require a visa, this does not apply. However, source countries such as Bangladesh still require visas, even for tourist visits, so they will use the MyVISA application system," he said. He said applicants for long-term passes, such as students and foreign workers applying for Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS), must also apply for a visa before entering the country.

Samalaju Port pioneers Smart Barrier Gates in major step toward fully automated operations

Majang (centre) cuts the ribbon to launch the event, as Ruslan (fourth right) and others look on. SAMALAJU (July 17): Samalaju Industrial Port Sdn Bhd (SIPSB) leads the way as Sarawak's first seaport terminal to implement Smart Barrier Gates powered by cutting-edge technology, said Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad president and chief executive officer Ruslan Abdul Ghani. This achievement marked a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Bintulu Port Group, Ruslan said during the official launch of Smart Barrier Gates on Wednesday. 'This is one of the low-hanging fruits from our digital agenda and a reflection of our commitment to technological excellence and operational efficiency,' he added. The event was officiated by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Dato Majang Renggi. He said the Smart Barrier Gate System, a key part of SIPSB's push towards automation and digitalisation, is designed to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and security at the port's entry points. The system integrates four core technologies into a single seamless ecosystem. 'The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) will automatically read and interpret container numbers, eliminating manual input and reducing processing time by up to 80 per cent,' he said. According to Ruslan, the Artificial Image Recording (AIR) uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to boost the accuracy of cargo identification, ensuring compliance with international standards. While the License Plate Recognition (LPR) enables secure, automated vehicle access for a smoother user experience, the fourth feature – Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) – enhances access control through secure, automated user identification. 'This achievement represents our unwavering commitment to innovation and our vision of creating a truly smart port environment that will set new standards – and this is just the first step,' Ruslan said. He also revealed that the Smart Barrier Gate System is only the beginning of a broader digital transformation roadmap for Bintulu Port Group. Ruslan said upcoming initiatives include the Port Operating System (POS), Smart CCTV with AI capability, nested drones, Digital Tally, and a next-generation Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS). 'Ultimately, we are going to have an Integrated Operation Centre (IOC),' he added. Ruslan also emphasised the port's vision to implement full-fledged automation, an initiative that no other port in Malaysia has fully undertaken. He said a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the group to implement the automation further cements their path towards making this a reality. 'This creates an intelligent port environment that enhances our security protocols, improves our service delivery to valued customers and stakeholders, and positions us at the forefront of logistics innovation,' he explained. 'As digitalisation becomes increasingly vital in global trade, the steps taken by Samalaju Industrial Port and by extension Bintulu Port Group, solidify their position as regional leaders in technological innovation and operational excellence, paving the way for future advancements in Sarawak's maritime sector and beyond.'
