WR Terry McLaurin Joins Commanders Camp Amid Contract Dispute
Wide receiver Terry McLaurin reported to Washington Commanders training camp on Sunday morning following a four-day holdout, but the 2024 second-team All-Pro and the team have yet to agree on new contract terms. The Commanders removed McLaurin from the reserve/did not report list for camp and placed Washington's leading receiver on the active/physically unable to perform list due to an ankle injury from the previous season, according to head coach Dan Quinn. "I'm really pumped that he is here," Quinn said before Sunday's practice. The coach said he spoke directly with McLaurin on Saturday. "He is such an awesome competitor. At his core, that's who he is." McLaurin did not report on Tuesday along with his teammates and incurred a $50,000 daily fine for skipping the first four official days of camp. The seven-year veteran has one year remaining on a three-year, $68.2 million extension signed in 2022, but has been seeking a new deal. He set a career-high with 13 touchdown receptions and had 1,096 yards last season on 82 receptions. The PUP list designation forbids McLaurin from participating in on-field activities, but he can join teammates and coaches in meetings and now counts toward the 90-player roster limit. With fans in attendance for practice, McLaurin will work with the training staff on the side field during Sunday's practice, Quinn said. McLaurin participated in early portions of Washington's offseason program, but skipped the on-field portions of Organized Team Activities (OTA) and mandatory minicamp. Teammates have supported their absent teammate during camp. Quarterback Jayden Daniels and McLaurin fueled an offense that was central to Washington's surprising run to the NFC Championship game last season. "Just business in the NFL," said Daniels. "We know Terry's working ... at the end of the day, he's still one of our brothers." Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Jaguars' Travis Hunter Sends Blunt Message to Doubters
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Jacksonville Jaguars made an extremely aggressive move in the 2025 NFL Draft. Showing an urgency to win, the Jaguars made a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns to acquire the No. 2 overall pick. With that selection, the team drafted former Colorado standout Travis Hunter. Hunter was the best player in college football last season. He won the Heisman Trophy for his efforts and was immediately talked about as a generational player. Part of the reason for that discussion occurring was due to his ability to play both wide receiver and cornerback at an elite level. Read more: Steelers Teammate Doesn't Hold Back About Aaron Rodgers While there are few who would argue against the immense talent that Hunter possesses, there are some who doubt his ability to translate his game to the NFL. Hunter is not letting those doubters bother him. With training camp now underway, Hunter spoke out with a strong message to his doubters and critics. "I'm gonna just be quiet and go to work," Hunter said. "They don't know what to say so they're just gonna keep hating." During the 2024 college football season with the Buffaloes, Hunter played in 13 games. He continued his high level of play on both offense and defense. As a wide receiver, Hunter racked up 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively, he totaled 36 tackles, four interceptions, a forced fumble, and 11 defended passes. Liam Coen, the first-year head coach in Jacksonville, spoke out about his plan for his dynamic dual-threat rookie. "You want to give him a couple days offense, a couple days defense, and then give him an opportunity to go flip-flop within the same practice and then that will kind of become the norm," Coen said. "Every moment, every minute that he is in the building, it is accounted for and trying to make sure that we maximize his time, our time so that we can ultimately get the best outcome." Read more: Browns Defender Shockingly Decides to Retire During Training Camp Throughout the course of the 2025 NFL season, Hunter will be a major topic of conversation around the league. He has elite potential, but still needs to prove some of his doubters wrong. He'll simply use that as extra motivation to step up and play to the absolute best of his ability. ESPN names this 4th-year WR as the Eagles' 'biggest surprise' of the 2025 offseason
ESPN named the biggest off-season surprise for all 32 NFL teams, and fourth-year wide receiver Danny Gray was the Eagles' most impressive performer. The Eagles have moved past Super Bowl 59 and are locked in on having a singular focus on the 2025 NFL regular season. Howie Roseman orchestrated another roster makeover in free agency, the 10-player NFL Draft, and several talented undrafted free agents. The Organized Team Activities and now the Mandatory Minicamp have concluded, and Philadelphia is wrapping up a five-week break before returning to the NovaCare Complex. Training Camp begins in late July – July 22 is report day, with a July 23 practice to follow – and Danny Gray is one of the most prominent under-the-radar players to watch. ESPN recently revealed the biggest off-season surprise for all 32 teams, and Gray was the player who gained the most ground in the wide receiver competition. The 26-year-old wideout made an impression during the OTA and minicamp practices open to reporters, using his 4.33 speed to stretch the field and accelerate past defenders on catches over the middle. Gray was a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. He dealt with some injuries and tallied just one reception during his time in San Francisco. He was waived by the Niners in August and signed with the Eagles' practice squad days later. Philadelphia has one of the top receiving duos in the league in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but there are some roster spots up for grabs lower on the depth chart. Gray will be competing with players like Ainias Smith, Avery Williams and Terrace Marshall during training camp. -- Tim McManus Gray was a topic of discussion around the NovaCare Complex, and the player we featured in a recent article continues to turn heads at Eagles practice. Gray signed with the Eagles' practice squad in mid-September after failing to make the 49ers' 53-man roster at the end of training camp. He wasn't elevated for a single game during the 2024 campaign. Gray has an advantage over Terrace Marshall due to his familiarity with the system. At the same time, Johnny Wilson offers size that the Eagles covet, putting the final roster between Gray, Ainias Smith, and Avery Williams.
