Real reason Sondre Orjasaeter didn't join Celtic revealed

The Norwegian recently joined Twente from Sarpsborg in his homeland for a reported fee of €5 million plus bonuses. Celtic have been linked with a move for Orjasaeter since the January transfer window, and it appears their interest was genuine. "He definitely had more options," said Streuer of Orjasaeter when he joined Twente [RecordSport]. "Celtic, for example, also wanted him; he's been there." Read more: The player, however, wanted to head to the Eredivisie, hence the Bhoys didn't secure his services. "He could have gone to other countries," Streuer added. "But he really wanted to go to the Netherlands. "In my opinion, that's also a great step for a young player's development." Although they missed out on Orjasaeter, Celtic could yet sign Slovan Bratislava forward David Strelec. His father, Milan, says the Parkhead club remain interested in a transfer. He said: "When Slovan were trying to win through to the main stages of the Champions League again, the club's management would not consider David's transfer. "Or at least it was not high on their agenda. "But now I presume things will start to happen before the August deadline. "Things will start heating up around David again. "As far as I know, several clubs are still interested, including Celtic and Middlesbrough and we know both had bids for him in the past. "So I am curious what will happen in the remaining few days before the deadline."

Winger linked with Celtic completes €5m Eredivisie transfer

The Parkhead club have been mentioned as a potential suitor for the winger in the past two transfer windows. Celtic reportedly opened talks to sign Orjasaeter in June after a January move failed, although he has now completed a switch to the Eredivisie. According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Twente have shelled out €5 million plus bonuses on his services. Read more: "I've already had a lot of good impressions of FC Twente," Orjasaeter told after joining the club on a four-year deal. "I'd heard a lot about the club and the supporters beforehand. "I'm looking forward to playing here in this fantastic stadium in front of so many supporters in such an atmosphere. This is also a big transfer for me, the first step in my career abroad. When you get an opportunity like this and the timing and the club are right, you have to seize it and go for it." Twente manager Jan Streuer said: "We are delighted to welcome Sondre Orjasaeter to the club. Sondre is a very talented player whom we have been following in Norway for some time. "He is an intelligent winger with great individual qualities. He will give us something extra. To make this transfer possible, the club has made an extra effort, including financially. "This underscores the confidence we have in him. Sondre is still young, is now making his first move abroad, and will find his feet at FC Twente in the coming period. We will give him that time."

Celtic pass up £4.4m transfer chance as Rodgers reveals star who 'really frustrated' him is now indispensable

The Hoops had reportedly targeted a deal for the attacker in January but decided against reviving their interest this summer Celtic look set to pass up the chance to land Sondre Orjasaeter as the winger closes in on a move to the Dutch top flight. ‌ The Hoops reportedly had a £4.4million bid for the Norwegian starlet rejected by Sarpsborg in January - with the Eliteserien outfit demanding closer to £7m. ‌ Despite being in the market for wingers, Brendan Rodgers hasn't revived his interest in the 21-year-old this summer. ‌ And now multiple reports in Norway and the Netherlands suggest that Orjasaeter is on the verge of joining Eredivisie side FC Twente. The deal - understood to be around the £4.4m Celts had originally offered - will represent Twente's biggest outlay since the club were relegated in 2018. Orjasaeter admitted earlier this summer that he was ready to continue his career outside of Norway, saying: "Now I feel ready to take the step, while I am doing well here with full focus on Sarpsborg. "I think that if it happens, it happens. It's not like I'll be depressed if there's no transfer." However, a switch to Parkhead now looks to be completely off the table. ‌ Meanwhile, Johan Mjallby reckons fellow Swede Benji Nygren will make his Celtic a fortune one day down the line. The £1.7m signing from Nordsjaelland has hit the ground running this summer and netted his first goal in Sunday's 2-0 win at Pittodrie. Legendary defender Mjallby thinks the Hoops have landed a huge bargain and tipped Rodgers to take Nygren's game to the next level. ‌ He told the Sunday Post: "Right now, I'd say Benjamin has many good attributes in his game and it's about adding things here and there to make him more complete. I'm pleased for him to be playing for such a brilliant club. It's also good business for Celtic. 'The fee they have reported to have paid for him is really good in today's market. "They have done really well to get him in and around that price bracket. It could well be that he will improve and improve in the next two or three years and Celtic will have the option of selling him at a really good profit. ‌ "But that is well down the line. Right now, the player will want to settle in and really make his mark as quickly as possible.' Reo Hatate also got on the scoresheet against Aberdeen as he unleashed a goal of the season contender in the North East. ‌ The Japan playmaker, 27, was linked with moves to Germany towards the end of last season but Rodgers revealed the club have not had any offers. Speaking after moving four points clear of Rangers, the Irishman said: "Trying to get them in, never mind get them out! "We haven't had anything for the likes of Reo and that, but yes, he's one of the few players in that midfield that can make those incisive passes, and he'll give the ball away at times, and that used to really frustrate me when I first started to work with him. 'But I know that's the risk he plays in his game, but he'll produce a moment like that, which is a brilliant finish, and he's done that up here before last year. 'So, yes, we want to build a squad, and like I said, there's lots of areas in it I'm pleased with, but of course, there's other areas that we will focus on and hopefully improve.'

Sondre Orjasaeter to Celtic transfer tackled head on with two deals facing crucial timeline

The Hoops previously attempted to sign the Norwegian winger in the winter transfer window Sarpsborg sporting director Hampus Andersson has revealed Celtic have yet to revive their interest in winger Sondre Orjasaeter this summer. ‌ The Hoops have been long-term admirers for the forward and the Norwegian Under-21 cap came close to joining Brendan Rodgers ' side in January - but felt he wasn't ready to make he leap to the Premiership. ‌ That led to a £4million bid being booted out by Sarpsborg in January - it's understood that the club will looking to bank up to £7million for the highly-rated 21-year-old. ‌ Royal Antwerp wide man Michel-Ange Balikwisha is among the long-term targets on the agenda as the Parkhead chiefs look to provide Rodgers with a replacement for Nicolas Kuhn following his big money move to Como. But Orjasaeter looks to have dropped down the pecking order. Asked about interest in the attacker this summer, Andersson told Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad: "It is clear that there will be great interest when he performs at the level he has. "But it has been quiet around players like Sondre who had a very hectic transfer window in the winter." Earlier this summer, Orjasaeter claimed he was now keen to progress his career outside of Norway: "Now I feel ready to take the step, while I am doing well here with full focus on Sarpsborg. "I think that if it happens, it happens. It's not like I'll be depressed if there's no transfer." Along with a winger, Rodgers has already made it clear that he wants to add more firepower to the side having lost Kuhn, Kyogo and Matt O'Riley in the last three windows. ‌ And Simon Donnelly reckons that the board must offer up two more deals before the Champions League qualifiers to fulfil the request of the boss. He told the Sunday Post: "They had a great campaign last season and they showed they belonged beside the very best. "The new format of having eight group games really suited Celtic and they had some great results. It led to the knockout game against Bayern Munich and the lads came so very close. ‌ "It was heartbreaking to lose to the Germans in the last minute but it shows you can never switch off at that level. That said, the squad will be better for that experience and can use it next month. "Callum McGregor, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kasper Schmeichel will make sure every player is focused and aware of what they need to do on the pitch. ‌ "There is also bound to be a couple of more signings between now and then. Brendan has made it clear that new recruits are required and there will be hard work behind the scenes to deliver. "The new signings will need to hit the ground running and they will be given every encouragement to do so. "It's a real positive to have Kieran Tierney back at the club. That is a fantastic signing. ‌ "He is one of the best players our country has produced in recent years and he will be vital because of his big-game experience. "One of the reasons he came back is to play regular football and also do it at the highest possible level. That's what the Champions League is. "Kieran will help drive the team on and it would be great for everyone to get that success so quickly into the campaign. "The financial rewards are huge. But it's about prestige for Brendan and the players. Brendan is a top operator and he'll have his team ready to do what is required."

The latest on Celtic's winger hunt amid 'number of targets'

The Parkhead club are 'expected' to sign versatile attacking midfielder Benjamin Nygren from Nordsjaelland, although it doesn't look like they will stop there. Indeed, Sky Sports claims that Celtic are on the hunt for a winger this summer, and that they have 'made contact' for a number of targets, including Sondre Orjasaeter of Sarpsborg and Royal Antwerp's Michel-Ange Balikwisha. Read more: The latter ended an injury-ravaged 2024/25 campaign by contributing to seven goals in 11 games. Balikwisha was linked with a move to Parkehad last summer, while Orjasaeter was said to be the subject of a £4.6 million bid from Celtic in January. He previously addressed his failed move: "I struggled to sleep," revealed Orjasaeter. "I didn't know if I was going to be in Norway or not. I could have moved at any moment. I had to carry my passport with me everywhere. "When the window closed, I felt a sense of relief. I came to the conclusion that I was determined to stay in Sarpsborg and play here, because I didn't know if I was ready to leave yet. "Going abroad now is another level up. It had become more professional and everything. There were many thoughts going through my head during that period. "If I get a little more time in Sarpsborg, I think I'll mature and be ready for it eventually. "Of course, you will have a better life after your career if you have more money in your account, but you only live once. For me, it is just as important to have fun along the way. It is probably even more important "I have a lot of friends to keep me grounded. I think if I only had football, my head would explode! "I'm not much of a fan of football, but I love having it as a job. I couldn't have a better job than what I have. "But when I see that my friends are going on holiday or to ski at Easter, I get jealous. I'm not going to lie. "I hope that those clubs understand that not everyone can be the same. At the same time, I have my serious side too. And I think that kind of thing comes a little with age."
