PA Soldiers and Sailors Home recognizes National Medal of Honor Day
The Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home is recognizing National Medal of Honor Day. The volunteer resources coordinator, Ken Vybiral, said National Medal of Honor Day is a significant day on the calendar that their staff and residents take time to acknowledge with the community. Erie City Mission wins Mercyhurst University's Archbishop Oscar Romero Award He said the Medal of Honor recipients are the epitome of service and sacrifice, talking about the local connection that Erie has with the Medal of Honor is an honor within itself. 'I think to make sure that that history isn't lost the recipients that we honor here today served Civil War era, so even though they were City of Erie residents, many City of Erie residents may not know their history or the tales of their service and sacrifice,' said Vybiral. Erie City Mission wins Mercyhurt University's Archbishop Oscar Romero Award
An area university recognized one nonprofit on its faith-based work for our community. Mercyhurst University's Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy presented their Archbishop Oscar Romero Award to the Erie City Mission for the dedicated support in the area Monday evening. Gannon University students host watch party to cheer on women's basketball team The event included an award ceremony followed by an annual Romero Lecture by the Erie City Mission's president Brian Johansson. Monday night's speech was called 'the privilege of serving our homeless neighbors.' Local high school students learn valuable financial literacy skills 'What an honor it is for us to be recognized for the work that we do 365 days a year we work at the Erie City Mission serving those in need and it's nice to be recognized by our community in Erie,' said Johansson.
