By: Oswald Supi Text Size: An extract from the Notice of Demand. PENAMPANG: A former stall trader at Donggongon vegetable and fruit market was speechless when a Penampang Municipal Council worker was able to locate her at a coffee shop on Sunday to serve a final Notice of Demand for licence fees and rental amounting to RM3,864, purportedly in arrears since March 2018. Helen, 72, from Penampang said she paid her last rental and surrendered stall number 34 in February 2018, and found it outrageous of the Council to claim seven years of unpaid bills.
Advertisement She said no notices or claims of any kind were received all those years despite the letter claiming the last notice was served on Jan 10 this year. A former District Officer (DO), when asked, said after three months of unpaid rentals, the stall would be forfeited and given to others. Sub-letting is also not allowed. The ex-DO opined that there are old Council records that were not properly maintained or updated. Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article.
