Ramayana Teaser Out: Ranbir Kapoor's first look as Ram, Yash as Ravan in mythological epic; credits are a reminder of Game of Thrones
Ramayana First Look Teaser Out: Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash-starrer Ramayana dropped its first look on Thursday. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the three-minute teaser shows an elaborate slate of visual effects but it is only towards the end of the teaser that we see a glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravan. The three-minute video is accompanied by the music of Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. As the Ramayana teaser moves on, it might remind one of the opening credits of shows like Game of Thrones as we see a list of credits, in a similar format. However, we don't see any actual footage from the film. The teaser opens with the introduction of the three gods of Hinduism — Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and their role in mythology, and moves on to establish the war between Ram and Ravan as the 'war to end all wars.' Ramayana is being promoted as, 'Our Truth, Our Story'. ALSO READ | F1: Brad Pitt takes a page out of Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan playbook, and tears it to shreds Ranbir Kapoor, who was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga, will be seen playing Lord Ram here. The behind-the-scenes images featuring Ranbir with Sai were circulated on the internet a few months ago and since then, there has been a lot of anticipation about his participation in the film. For Ranbir, this will be his first time playing a mythological character. Before him, Baahubali star Prabhas played the same role in Adipurush but he did not get audience's vote of confidence in that film. Sai Pallavi, who is one of the most accomplished actors from the southern film industry, will be seen as Sita here. Sai has also played a lead role in Aamir Khan's production Ek Din, also starring Junaid Khan. But her role in Ramayana could be seen as a career defining role for the actor. For many audience members in the northern part of India, this will be their introduction to Sai Pallavi. Yash, best known for his KGF films, will be playing Ravan in the film. Yash is also the co-producer of the film. In an earlier chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash spoke about the character and said, 'It's a very fascinating character. I wouldn't have done it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me 'would you play any other character?' Probably not. For me, Ravan is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There's vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it's going to be a very unique approach to it.' Apart from the three lead actors, the film also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Arun Govil are also a part of the film's cast. As per an earlier report by Bollywood Hungama, it was suggested that the film is being made on a budget of Rs 835 crore. This makes Ramayana the most expensive Indian film to date. Before Ramayana, Kalki 2898 AD, which starred Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 600 crore. Adipurush, which was also an iteration of Ramayana, was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 500 crore. Adipurush starred Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon. It has been suggested that Ramayana will be a two-part project. The first part will release during Diwali 2026 and the second part will release during Diwali 2027.
