Morocco advances to CHAN quarterfinals with victory over DR Congo
The Moroccan national team, composed of local players, has advanced to the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a decisive 3-1 victory over DR Congo. This crucial match took place on Sunday at Nairobi's Nyayo Stadium, marking the fifth and final matchday of Group A. The Atlas Lions clinched their win with goals from Oussama Lamlaoui, who scored in the 8th and 80th minutes, and Mohamed Hrimat, who converted a penalty in the 70th minute. DR Congo's sole goal came from Jephte Kitambala Bola in the 43rd minute. With the conclusion of this matchday, Morocco secured second place in Group A, amassing 9 points. They trail behind Kenya, who topped the group with 10 points after edging out Zambia 1-0, thanks to a goal by Ryan Ogam in the 75th minute. Following a 2-0 win for RS Berkane over Simba SC in the first leg of the 2024-25 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Final in Berkane, Morocco, attention will turn to the return fixture on the island of Zanzibar this Sunday, 25 May 2025. The match will be played at Amaan Stadium at 16h00 local time (13h00 GMT) and will be live across all CAF's broadcast partners, including Azam Media, beIN Sport, Canal+, SuperSport, SABC and several other global platforms. RS Berkane go to the second leg with the advantage after early goals from Mamadou Camara and Oussama Lamlaoui at home, but Simba SC have shown plenty of fighting spirit already this campaign and will be confident of overturning the deficit. CAPE TOWN, April 20 (Reuters) - Morocco's Renaissance Berkane look headed to a yet another appearance in the African Confederation Cup final after a resounding 4-0 win over CS Constantine from Algeria in Sunday's first leg of their semi-final tie. Berkane, who won a first Moroccan championship last month, have reached four Confederation Cup finals in the past six years, winning twice, and will be heavily fancied to advance again after a double from Oussama Lamlaoui followed first half goals from Youssef Mehri and Paul Bassene and saw them to a comfortable home win. Earlier on Sunday, Tanzania's Simba edged Stellenbosch from South Africa 1-0 in Zanzibar in the first of their semi-final. Jean Ahoua's free kick evaded all in the box to slip through for the only goal on the stroke of halftime. The return legs of both ties will be played next Sunday with the two-legged final to be played next month.
