Denim just got smarter. Outlast Technologies GmbH has announced a game-changing innovation: denim that adapts to your body's temperature to enhance all-day comfort. Known for its rugged durability and style versatility, denim has long been a wardrobe staple. Now, thanks to Outlast's cutting-edge technology, it's also performance-ready.
Developed after rigorous R&D, this smart denim embeds natural wax into the fiber structure before weaving. This allows the fabric to actively regulate temperature — absorbing excess heat when it's warm and releasing it as things cool down. The result is reduced sweating in heat and better warmth retention in cooler conditions, all while retaining the authentic look and feel of traditional denim.
'Denim is universally loved but not always season-friendly,' said Volker Schuster, R&D Director at Outlast. 'We've addressed that by engineering jeans that respond to your body's thermal changes — offering wearable comfort without compromise.'
Key to this innovation was a collaboration with Pakistan-based denim expert AGI, which helped refine the process to withstand heavy washing and finishing treatments typical in denim production. Since the wax is embedded within the fiber rather than applied to the surface, the temperature control function remains intact for the garment's entire lifespan, unlike coatings that wash out over time.
