Letters to the editor: Trump bringing US down; fair must factor in outbreak
Country is on downward spiral
Since Trump was sworn in, our country has begun our downward spiral.
People are fearful of ICE, the price of eggs, etc., have not come down yet as promised.
He blames everyone else for anything that goes wrong, without any basis to back up his words.
He blames the recent airline crashes on DEI hiring, when in fact that had nothing to do with it. Inflation last year was at 2.5%, it is already at 2.9% and will surely rise even more as his tariffs begin to take effect.
His imperialistic tendencies are going to put American military in harm's way for no reason but to stroke his own ego.
He thinks that everyone should bow to his will, and do whatever he says, and if they don't, they will be outcasts. Anyone hired must swear loyalty to him, not the Constitution.
If we look back in history, we will find other dictators who acted in the same way. If he goes unchecked, we can kiss our beloved democracy goodbye. Just remember what I think is his most telling line: 'I love the poorly educated.' I worry for my kids and grandkids for the world they are coming into.

Fair must adjust with outbreak
I love the Ventura County Fair as much as anyone, but is it really a good idea to bring animals from all over the county and from outside our county to mingle with other animals and with people during the H5N1 outbreak? There are county and state fairs all over the U.S. this summer, and many of the vendors go from fair to fair (including bringing the camel and the bulls).
I know the Fairgrounds relies on the fair for its finances, but I believe that we need to rethink holding the rodeo and animal displays.

Frightening parallels to regime
The parallels to some of Trump's administration's actions and the Nazi regime are frightening. I just hope that our democracy and the American people can stand up to this before too much damage is done.
