You can remove ingredients at any time before cooking by pressing the Empty button, which returns them to your inventory.
When you've added everything, press

. If Chris P. is craving that dish, the game will confirm it's a '[Craving] recipe.'
Once cooked, interact with the pot again to collect your Cake. Equip it and talk to Chris P., then choose '4. Try this food I cooked up!' to hand it over.
