Diddy Rejected A Plea Deal Ahead Of His Sex Trafficking Trial Next Month
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' sex trafficking trial is set to begin in two weeks, and prosecutors have revealed he once had a chance to take another way out. In court on April 25, prosecutors confirmed the Bad Boy founder was offered a plea deal, but he rejected it and chose to move forward to trial to fight for his freedom. According to Rolling Stone, prosecutors asked Judge Arun Subramanian if he 'could 'allocute' Combs on the plea agreement, essentially meaning, ask him in court and on the record if he understands the plea he was offered and rejected. Subramanian said he would address the plea at a hearing next Thursday, May 1.' Although the specific conditions of the plea deal remain unknown, there was never any confirmation about the long-rumored deal until now. Friday's hearing also resulted in Judge Subramanian ruling that the 2016 video of Combs physically assaulting Cassie Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel could be shown to the jury. It was also confirmed this week that the prosecution plans to use the audio from a 2011 phone call to 911 detailing how the 55-year-old artist allegedly broke into one of his victims' homes in Los Angeles. Previously, Combs' legal team attempted to delay the trial by two months, but that motion was swiftly denied. His attorneys were requesting more time to prepare as more charges stacked up, but according to CBS, the decision was made 'immediately' in court on April 18. Judge Subramanian said to the 'I'll Be Missing You' rapper's lawyers that the motion was filed 'last minute' and they did 'have sufficient time to prepare.' Subramanian also said he 'did not understand' why Combs wasn't prepared when he has 'four different law firms working on his case.' The trial will begin on May 5 as originally scheduled. On Sept. 16, 2024, the Love Album creator was arrested in NYC and charged with racketeering conspiracy; sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; and transportation to engage in prostitution. Disturbing details from the court documents accused Diddy of using his companies to fund and facilitate 'Freak Offs,' where he'd allegedly drug his victims and put them in sexually abusive situations. He is currently being held at the MDC Brooklyn and has been denied bail several times. Prosecution Plans To Use 911 Call From Alleged Diddy Burglary In Los Angeles During Trial
Diddy is a few weeks away from his trial for racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and more alleged crimes, and another piece of the prosecution's strategy has been revealed online. They plan to use the audio from a 2011 phone call to 911 detailing how the 55-year-old artist allegedly broke into one of his victims' homes in Los Angeles. 'Because this call was made shortly after discovering the break-in… Individual 2's statements are nevertheless admissible because they were made close in time to when he observed the break-in at his home,' AllHipHop reported via Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky. Per the prosecution, the phone call conveys the alleged victim's mental state and point to the Bad Boy co-founder running a full criminal operation. The government also plans to have the controversial mogul's former employees testify against him, as well as introduce text messages and phone recordings as evidence of his misconduct. The prosecution believes this will prove that his former employees were forced to work for him and aid his criminal enterprise. 'At trial, the Government anticipates introducing multiple statements made by the defendant's employees,' Matthew Podolsky added. 'Those statements will be offered as exhibits (including text messages sent by the defendant's employees and recordings of the defendant's employees), as well as through the testimony of witnesses. These statements cover a variety of different topics, but they all center around the employees' core job responsibilities of serving the defendant.' Another element of the prosecution's strategy is requesting that the court restrict Diddy from using prior statements until they meet specific legal exceptions. Their hope is the defense cannot use anything that will alter how his character is viewed, or suggest that the charges against him are related to anything political or retaliatory. Diddy's trial will begin on May 5, adding a new chapter to a long and difficult journey for both the rapper and his alleged victims. His ex-girlfriend, Cassie, will take the stand and will testify using her real name, as opposed to testifying anonymously. She has been a key aspect of this entire ordeal as she filed the first rape lawsuit against the 'Last Night' artist in November 2023, and footage surfaced of him assaulting her in 2016 last May. JAY-Z Rape Accuser Files For Defamation Lawsuit To Be Dismissed
JAY-Z has been in the clear for a few months after a Jane Doe dropped her rape lawsuit against him. The 55-year-old rapper countered with a defamation suit, and now his alleged victim is hoping she, too, can clear her name before even going to trial. Hov not only sued her for defamation, but also her attorney Tony Buzbee. They initially sued the Brooklyn rapper in December 2024, adding him to an already existing rape lawsuit against Diddy for alleged sexual misconduct in 2000 when she was just 13 years old. Over time, their story became inconsistent on a grand scale, and Buzbee's credibility was called into question. They ultimately dismissed the lawsuit in February 2024, with the 4:44 rapper to firing back with his defamation lawsuit for the damage done to his name and character. TMZ reported that the woman filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit this past Tuesday (April 24). She claims that the father of three cannot sue her over her accusations because they were made within the confines of court documents, thus they are privileged. She also claimed that her infamous NBC interview, where her story first strayed away from what she initially said, was allegedly based on the court documents and cannot be considered defamation either. Jane Doe is hoping that Jay-Z's defamation lawsuit can be dismissed with prejudice, which would restrict it from being filed again. It may get tricky for Doe and Tony Buzbee's side, as the attorney had already filed to dismiss the defamation lawsuit against him; he claimed that he made a deal with the Roc Nation leader's side before Hov reneged, but Jay's camp told TMZ that was untrue. Doe's lawsuit, notably, includes a similar claim about both sides reaching an agreement. More from BBC To Release 'P.
