Daughter who murdered her parents and kept their bodies for four years features in 'extraordinary' new documentary

Daughter who murdered her parents and kept their bodies for four years features in 'extraordinary' new documentary Ginny McCullough has spoken out for the first time in a new documentary Confessions of a Parent Killer which will air on Paramount Plus on June 12 Confessions of a Parent Killer airs on Paramount Plus on June 12 (Image: PARAMOUNT ) A new true-crime documentary, Confessions of a Parent Killer, premieres on Paramount Plus on June 12, providing an intimate look at Virginia 'Ginny' McCullough and the inquiry into her parents' murder. This film marks Ginny's first public statement about her crimes and features exclusive letters she wrote while awaiting sentencing and after her conviction. ‌ Ginny, then 35, was arrested in Great Baddow, Essex, on September 15, 2023, on suspicion of murdering her parents. She shocked police by freely confessing to the crimes, saying, "Cheer up, at least you've caught the bad guy." ‌ The bodies of Lois and John McCullough, aged 71 and 70, were discovered in sleeping bags at their residence, where they had been hidden for almost five years. Ginny was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 36 years before being considered for release, and it was revealed that she had accumulated significant debt on her parents' credit cards and continued to spend their pensions after their deaths, reports Surrey Live. According to Det Supt Rob Kirby, head of major crime at Essex Police, the case "shocked and horrified" even the force's most experienced murder detectives. In September 2023, a missing persons' inquiry was initiated after the family's general practitioner expressed concerns over the lack of contact from the couple. ‌ Local law enforcement grew suspicious of Ginny due to her constant evasive explanations for her parents' absence. While her father succumbed to the lethal mixture, her mother merely fell into a sedated state due to a lesser dosage; it was then that Ginny resorted to beating her mother with a hammer and repeatedly stabbing her in the chest with a kitchen knife. The court heard how Mr McCullough's remains were concealed within a "homemade mausoleum" built from masonry blocks in his private study, and Mrs McCullough's body was discovered enshrouded in a sleeping bag within an upstairs wardrobe. STAR TREK: THE ANIMATED SERIES: 5 Characters and Species Introduced by the Show

For many years, Star Trek: The Animated Series was overlooked by many Trekkies. However, in more recent years, interest in the show has been renewed. This is thanks in part to Star Trek: Lower Decks, which has included many characters and species originally introduced by The Animated Series in modern continuity. For this week's Trek Tuesday, we're sharing five characters and species that were originally introduced by The Animated Series. Did we include your favorite? Caitians Photo Cr: Best Possible Screen Grab CBS ©2020 CBS Interactive, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Perhaps the most well-known of the species introduced by Star Trek: The Animated Series is the Caitians. Originally, these catlike people were introduced through The Animated Series' M'Ress (Majel Barrett Roddenberry). While M'Ress spoke in a soft and purring voice, later examples proved that this was not the only demeanor possessed by Caitians. RELATED: Star Trek : Answering Your Questions About Caitians In the intervening years, many Caitians have appeared onscreen. First, we saw a few in the background in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. And then in Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, a young Caitian character appeared multiple times in the first half of the season. But perhaps the biggest role for a Caitian yet is Doctor T'Ana (Gillian Vigman), the Chief Medical Officer of the U.S.S. Cerritos on Lower Decks. Plus, Caitians have also appeared in Star Trek Into Darkness and were mentioned in dialogue in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2. Edosians Photo: PARAMOUNT+ ©2022 CBS Interactive, Inc. All Rights Reserved The Edosians are a three-armed species of aliens. They were first introduced through Arex (James Doohan). In The Animated Series, Arex is a helmsman for the U.S.S. Enterprise. This seems like a suitable role, since a third arm is probably helpful for steering a starship. And as you'll see, many Edosians have jobs that make sense with their third limb. Since Arex, several Edosians have appeared on Lower Decks. In Season 1's 'Much Ado About Boimler,' we meet an Edosian medical specialist (Fred Tatasciore). He is the commanding officer of the Division 14 ship the U.S.S. Osler. And in Lower Decks Season 3's 'Room for Growth,' we meet Toz (Mary Holland). She is the commanding officer of the 'spa ship' the Dove. Finally, the trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 suggests we'll get to see an Edosian bartender in live action in the show's third season. Kzinti Photo: PARAMOUNT+ ©2021 CBS Interactive, Inc. All Rights Reserved Another particularly interesting species introduction from The Animated Series is the Kzinti. Notably, these catlike creatures are unique because they originally came from outside Star Trek. As far as the Franchise goes, they first appeared in The Animated Series episode 'The Slaver Weapon,' written by Larry Niven. But the Kzinti had previously appeared in Niven's non-franchise sci-fi prose stories. RELATED: Star Trek : The Curious Case of the Kzinti However, for many years, the Kzinti were discussed, but not utilized. In fact one writer, Jimmy Diggs, repeatedly lobbied for their return. But the Kizinti never appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Star Trek: Voyager or Star Trek: Enterprise . Plus, the movie Diggs pitched featuring the Kzinti sadly never took off. Finally, in Star Trek: Picard Season 1's 'Nepenthe,' the Kzinti are briefly mentioned in dialogue. And on Lower Decks, a recurring crewmember, Ensign Taylor (Tatasciore), is Kzinti. Robert April Photo Cr: Marni Grossman/Paramount+ Robert April has a long history with the Franchise, his name having been taken from the original pitch for Star Trek. And in keeping with that pitch, April is recognized as the previous captain of the Enterprise before Christopher Pike. But he made his first onscreen appearance in The Animated Series' final episode, 'The Counter-Clock Incident.' Like many other characters on the show, in that episode, he was voiced by Doohan. In recent years, April became a live-action recurring character on Strange New Worlds. In this ongoing series, he is portrayed by Adrian Holmes. Pandronians Photo: PARAMOUNT+ ©2021 CBS Interactive, Inc. All Rights Reserved **Best Possible Screen Grab** The Pandronians are a species of humanoid colony creatures. And thanks to this biological characteristic, they can effortlessly divide their bodies into multiple pieces. On The Animated Series, they were first introduced in the episode 'Bem,' through the titular Ari bn Bem (Doohan). Bem was an 'independent observer' aboard the Enterprise. However, he clandestinely made the situation harder for the Starfleet crew in order to observe how they coped. RELATED: Watchlist: Celebrating 50 Years of Star Trek: The Animated Series And then, decades later, a Pandronian drill instructor visited the Cerritos in the Season 2 episode 'I, Excretus.' Shari yn Yem (Lennon Parham) was a Starfleet drill instructor sent to test the mettle of the California class crew. However, just like Bem, Shari rigged the tests to make them harder for the crew than they might have been otherwise. But Shari got her comeuppance when the Cerritos crew figured out her plan and thwarted it. Most of the Star Trek episodes discussed above are currently available for streaming on Paramount+. However, Star Trek: Prodigy is currently available for streaming on Netflix. 5 STAR TREK Meme Source Episodes Avery Kaplan is the author of several books and the Features Editor at Comics Beat. She was honored to serve as a judge for the 2021 Cartoonist Studio Prize Award and the 2021 Prism Awards. She lives in the mountains of Southern California with her partner and a pile of cats, and her favorite place to visit is the cemetery. Yellowstone's Rip Wheeler actor unexpected career move after dramatic series finale

Yellowstone's Cole Hauser appears to have taken a significant career detour following recent behind-the-scenes drama. The hit series, created by Taylor Sheridan, wrapped up its fifth season last year with a dramatic finale. However, the narrative within this universe is far from over, with four spin-off shows either in the works or confirmed, and even more expected. Fans are keen to track the next ventures of the show's stars, including upcoming movies or TV shows featuring actors who played roles in the Dutton family. Kelly Reilly, known for her role as Beth Dutton, is set to appear in an upcoming crime drama. The London-born actress will play a former detective turned teacher living in a fictional Welsh town rocked by the death of a young boy. The show is titled Under Salt Marsh, reports the Mirror US . The actor has been busy away from set (Image: PARAMOUNT) On the other hand, Hauser, who portrayed fan-favourite Rip Wheeler, seems to be taking a different path post-Yellowstone. His recent social media activity suggests he's taking a break to travel the globe and soak up new experiences before returning to the screen. A recent Instagram post indicates he's been spending time in New Zealand. However, it doesn't seem to be for filming purposes as his IMDB page lists no upcoming projects in production involving him. Last week, a post was shared with a caption that expressed gratitude: "Thank you New Zealand! Time to cruise that way. The people and places I've seen on this adventure will never be forgotten." Previously, Hauser had posted a photo from Africa, commenting: "So long Botswana! What a magical place and people." He also made sure to tag Free Rein Coffee, a business venture he's involved in, hinting at the possibility of a work-related visit. Hauser is rumored to be gearing up for his next acting role, potentially returning as his character from Yellowstone alongside Reilly. They are expected to headline a new series that continues where the original left off, with production reportedly starting this summer. Details are scarce, but the working title is believed to be 6666, named after the ranch central to the storyline. In a conversation with People, the actor shared his thoughts: "I think America has spoken. They still love the show. We will see what happens over the next year or so and we'll see what's next. Hopefully, we can continue to get into people's living rooms and entertain them the way we have over the last seven years." This news follows the off-screen controversy surrounding Kevin Costner's departure from the show, which ultimately led to its conclusion. Fans are looking forward to his character's return Costner expressed his frustration to Deadline about being unable to pursue his own creative projects due to contractual obligations. Initially, he had no desire to break the contract, but when the show was put on hold for over a year, leaving him unable to work on anything else, his frustration grew. He explained to Deadline: "I had a contract to do [seasons] 5, 6 and 7. I was contracted to do that. There's nothing I could have done to get out of that, nor was I trying to just figure out how, when we started. When we finished, I wanted to do Horizon. "The whole situation arose because they shut down one whole season, didn't inform anyone, and I was left without work for 14 months. Their silence bothered me in terms of professional conduct. Why didn't they stand up for me? I went and sold this thing for them. I was only going to do one season. I ended up doing three. I fulfilled three. So, I went from one to three, then I did a fourth one for them, and they wanted to do three more. So, I signed the contract to do that. They imploded." Yellowstone is streaming on Peacock.

‘Novocaine' is a numbing experience

If that weren't enough humiliation, his school bullies took advantage of his disorder back in the day, brutally injuring him repeatedly. They even gave him a nickname: 'Novocaine.' The 'feel no pain' predicament can be found in Liam Neeson's similarly afflicted character in Sam Raimi's 1990 classic, 'Darkman,' or the X-Men's Wolverine. Here, it's employed as the gimmick in a silly, graphically violent actioner whose plotline involves saving a damsel in distress. Jacob Batalon in "Novocaine." PARAMOUNT PICTURES Advertisement The sadsack Caine is no Wolverine, as fellow gamer and only friend Roscoe (an endearing Jacob Batalon) points out. He and Roscoe have never met in person. Caine also has no love life — we assume he can't feel pleasure, either. That assumption will be disproven; directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen had to get a little sex into this picture. Caine works as the assistant manager at a San Diego bank. We know he's a nice guy because he tries to help a recently widowed business owner (Lou Beatty Jr.) stave off foreclosure on his store. So, when an attractive teller named Sherry ('Prey''s Amber Midthunder), shows interest in him, we root for their romantic success. Their first date revolves around an explanation of his disorder, and a funny bit of revenge against a former classmate. Though it's completely fetishistic on Sherry's part (her interest appears to be 'how much pleasure can he feel?'), the two spend a night of passion together. Caine thinks he's in love. Unfortunately, Caine's morning-after bliss is interrupted when his bank is robbed by several brutal thieves. They brutally execute his manager, mow down acres of cops with automatic weapons, and make off with plenty of cash. The goons also kidnap Sherry. Advertisement Matthew Walsh and Betty Gabriel in "Novocaine." PARAMOUNT PICTURES From here, 'Novocaine' switches into action-movie mode, with the lovestruck Caine doing everything and anything to get his girlfriend back, including stealing a cop car and attempting to chase down the perpetrators. Hot on his trail are officers Mincy (Betty Gabriel from 2017's 'Get Out') and her soon-to-be-retired partner, Coltraine (Matthew Walsh). Writer Lars Jacobson gets a lot of gory mileage out of Caine's inability to feel pain, so much so that a guy in my row barfed in his popcorn bucket. Our hero suffers third-degree burns, broken bones, bullet wounds, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (literally!) and worse. It's like watching the Black Knight get dismembered in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail,' except that was funny and the gag didn't run nearly two hours. To my surprise, I was bored by the gruesome and repetitive carnage. My brain started asking questions about the logistics of Caine's injuries. Just because you can't feel pain doesn't mean your body isn't prone to structural damage that would prevent you from firing a gun or engaging in fisticuffs. Jack Quaid in "Novocaine." Marcos Cruz / PARAMOUNT PICTURES And doesn't longing for someone fall under the category of pain? Perhaps I would have been more engaged had the film not revealed its twist after barely 30 minutes. Turns out Sherry is in cahoots with the robbers. In fact, the more vicious of the group, Simon (Ray Nicholson), is her brother. So, Caine is getting eviscerated and tortured to save the woman who is leading him to his own potential demise. How romantic! Advertisement 'Novocaine' reminded me of Ke Huy Quan's recent action comedy 'Love Hurts.' In fact, this movie should have been called 'Love Hurts.' Though Quan's hero feels pain, he's subject to an equally extreme amount of violence. He even gets a hand wound early in the film, just like Caine does. The difference is that Quan is a convincing action hero (Quaid is not) and the violence against him is more cartoonish than grotesque. Jack Quaid in "Novocaine." Marcos Cruz / PARAMOUNT PICTURES The filmmakers fail to achieve their goal of parodying actioners where the heroes take a severe amount of punishment and keep on ticking. Those movies are impervious to parody. Unlike Mel Gibson's character in 'Lethal Weapon,' Caine doesn't get off on pain. And unlike Stallone or Schwarzenegger in any number of blockbusters, nothing Caine does approaches their level of physics-defying absurdity. We're left with a movie that, despite all its bloody F/X and brutal fights, isn't worth paying to watch in a theater. 'Novocaine' is a numbing experience that's best seen on cable at 3 a.m., preferably after you've numbed yourself with the vice of your choice. ★★ NOVOCAINE Directed by Dan Berk, Robert Olsen. Written by Lars Jacobson. Starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Betty Gabriel, Matthew Walsh, Jacob Batalon, Ray Stevenson. Lou Beatty Jr. At AMC Boston Common, Landmark Kendall Square, Alamo Drafthouse Seaport, AMC Causeway, suburbs. 110 min. R (gory violence and the swear words that accompany it) Odie Henderson is the Boston Globe's film critic.
