Coronation Street star reveals he's working as a groundsman at local cricket club days after being killed off on soap

CORONATION Street star has revealed he's swapped the cobbles for the cricket pitch - just days after his character was dramatically killed off. The actor, who recently bowed out of the ITV soap in emotional scenes, is now working as a groundsman at his local cricket club. 6 6 Coronation Street fans have been left in tears following PC Craig Tinker's passing. The loveable policeman died in hospital in sad scenes after being brutally murdered by Mick during a botched arrest. Craig had attempted to arrest drunk driver Mick but after turning his back for a moment, Mick was able to grab hold of a baseball bat in his van and club Craig over the head and left him to die in the road. Having been raced to hospital, his family and friends and long-standing colleague PC Jess watched on as he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Craig's death comes after actor Colson Smith was axed from the show as part of on-going cost-cutting measures at the soap and ITV. The soap favourite has now shared a behind-the-scenes snap from the pitch, trading scripts and stunts for mowers and maintenance. Taking to his Instagram stories, Colson posted a snap of himself getting his hands dirty while he looks after his local cricket club's pitch. He captioned the snap: "Groundman duties @castleford_cricket_club". The Cricket fanatic has been volunteering there since his departure from the soap. The Sun exclusively revealed his character was being killed off back in March. Coronation Street's Colson Smith reveals the moment soap boss 'binned him' from show and says 'I knew it was coming' A source told us: 'Craig has grown up on the street and he's become part of it so it was a tough decision to make but one that will be worth it. 'PC Tinker will meet his maker in heroic circumstances this summer and there won't be a dry eye in the house when it goes out. 'Colson is taking it well and there's a real feeling that this chapter is closing for him and there are bigger and brighter things ahead." The star marked his soap exit with a wild, booze-fuelled leaving bash. Corrie cash crisis: shock exits for 2025 ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap. This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama. Colson Smith - Craig Tinker The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig's on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role. Sue Cleaver - Eileen Grimshaw After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I'm A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she's already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future. Luca Toolan - Mason Radcliffe Bosses decided to axe the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the show. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him. Sue Devaney - Debbie Webster In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline. Charlotte Jordan - Daisy Midgeley The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she's hungry to see what other opportunities await. Shelley King - Yasmeen Metcalfe The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. This follows the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter. The police themed party paid homage to his character PC Tinker and featured fancy dress, balloons and police tape at the tapas bar and restaurant El Gato Negro Tapas in Manchester. Many of Colson's Corrie co-stars attended full of smiles including Andy Whyment, Brooke Vincent, Georgia Taylor, Lucy Fallon, Jacobs Roberts, Tony Maudsley and Sam Aston. The 26-year-old actor was one of several stars who have been axed from the ITV soap. Corrie is gearing up for a number of exits for some iconic characters this summer, including Eileen Grimhshaw who is set to exit the cobbles with actress Sue Cleaver quitting the soap after an incredible 25 years. The soap has already seen several characters depart the cobbles from the likes of Daisy Midgeley to Mason Radcliffe. ITV is facing a financial crisis due to soaring production costs, a decline in advertising revenue, and a drop in viewing figures, leading to budget cuts and cast departures. Consequently, the broadcaster is reducing the length of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale episodes from hour-long to 30-minute installments, starting in January 2026. This change will create a "soaps power hour" where Emmerdale airs at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm each weeknight. But with ratings falling and viewers switching to streamers like Netflix, more soap stars are fearing the axe - should they be worried? Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX. 6 6 6 6

Coronation Street favourite left for dead in brutal attack after actor is axed from soap Before Craig, there have been many other shocking deaths from over the years. Listed below are among the most memorable - as well as gut-wrenching. Kylie Platt 8 Played by Paula Lane, viewers were heartbroken by Kylie Platt's tragic death in 2016. The character - who was half-sister to Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly) and mother to Max Turner (Paddy Bever) - debuted in 2010. Kylie died in dramatic fashion after being stabbed by thug Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) - who had been assaulting her friend Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell). Speaking ahead of the scenes airing, Paula said: "I'm not just saying this because I'm involved – but I don't think I've ever read an ending like it. 'The audience are going to get a real sense of shock and surprise – how a sudden death really is. They're going to feel those emotions." Tina McIntyre 8 Viewers were first introduced to Michelle Keegan 's feisty Tina McIntyre in 2008. She was originally girlfriend to David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) but had further romances while on the cobbles. Towards the end of her stint, Tina began an affair with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) - who was married to Carla Connor (Alison King). But when she threatened to expose the truth, Carla's brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) ended up in a confrontation with her. Fans watched Tina fall off balcony after she lost her footing - and vowed to Rob that she would tel the police he pushed her. Left panicked, Rob resorted to murder by clobbering Tina over the head with a metal pipe. Jack Duckworth 8 As portrayed by Bill Tarmey, Corrie legend Jack Duckworth had a very poignant goodbye scene. Jack appeared in the ITV soap from 1979 up until his final scenes on November 8, 2010. That final episode saw Tyrone (Alan Halsall) organise Jack's 74th birthday party in The Rovers. The soap legend quietly left - after waving goodbye to Ken Barlow (William Roache), who raised a glass to him. Putting on the Matt Monro record Softly As I Leave You, Jack is reunited with late wife Vera's ghost as he passes on. The two have an emotional dance together and share a kiss representing Jack's death. Later that evening - Tyrone, his then-wife Molly (Vicky Binns) and Jack's companion Connie (Rita May) returned to find him dead in his arm chair. Sinead Tinker 8 In 2013, actress Katie McGlynn began portraying Sinead Tinker on the cobbles. She notably had romances with Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard). The character was first diagnosed with cervical cancer back in 2018. However, the disease later spread with Sinead told she had just months left to live. Viewers were heartbroken by late 2019 when she ultimately lost her battle. Surrounded by husband, auntie Beth, and son Bertie, Sinead battled side-effects and illness as she slowly accepted her fate. She discussed the after life possibilities with vicar Billy as she admitted that she hopes she'll be able to look over Bertie once she has gone. Rana Habeeb 8 Rana Habeeb arrived in 2016, as a new love interest for Zeedan Nazir (Qasim Ahktar). Played by Bhavna Limbachia, viewers also met Rana's own family - such as brother Imran (Charlie de Melo). She later formed a relationship with friend Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) with the two becoming engaged. However, a tragic turn of events saw Rana crushed in a factory collapse on her wedding day. Rana insisted the pair got married after Imran helped Kate battle through the police to see her for one last time. But viewers were devastated as the fan favourite passed away in Kate's arms. Here is a list of the most devastating deaths that have taken place in soapland over the years. EASTENDERS Barry Evans - Evil Janine (Charlie Brooks) lured her trusting fiance to Scotland for a quickie marriage after learning he was dying. Tina lost her footing and fell off a balcony - then warned Rob she was going to tell the cops he pushed her. In a panic, Rob brutally clobbered her over the head with a metal pipe. Molly Dobbs - Molly was one of the victims in Corrie's 2010 tram crash, alongside Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold). This resulted in the birth of their son, Jack (Kyran Bowes), who was named after Jack Duckworth. As fate would have it, Kevin's wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) was by Molly's side in her final moments. Sally was stunned as Molly confessed Kevin was Jack's father, before dying of her injuries. Vera Duckworth - Having appeared regularly in Corrie since the 1970s, there was no denying Vera Duckworth was an iconic character. Alongside her husband Jack, the pair formed one of the soap's most beloved couples. Liz Dawn, who played Vera, made a brief return two years later for Bill Tarmey's exit as Jack. Paul Foreman - Fans were heartbroken when Paul Foreman succumbed to his illness after battling motor neurone disease. Introduced in 2018 as David Platt's (Jack P. Huge Coronation Street star left for dead in shocking final scenes as actor is axed from ITV soap

ONE of Coronation Street's most popular characters looks set to be left for dead in upcoming scenes. PC Craig Tinker - played by Colson Smith - will meet his demise in grisly scenes next week with a brand new promo for the programme, showing him bloodied and bruised. 7 7 7 Weatherfield looks set to be rocked by a heartbreaking 'death' as Craig will be seen fighting for his life after an utterly vicious attack at work. His final fight will be part of a special week of episodes following PC colleagues Craig and Kit Green. In a haunting new trailer, DS Lisa Swain shares a chilling thought that appeared to preempt Craig's future. She can be heard saying: 'If we knew today was our last day on earth, what would we do differently." In scenes to be aired next week, Craig is giddier than ever as he prepares to start his placement shading Kit in CID. However, as Kit continues to deal with his own run-ins with Mick and Lou, and the secrets that come to haunt him, he is busily focused on his own agenda. With Kit distracted, a series of climatic events begin to unfold on the street. Viewers will then witness a horrifying and shocking incident that will change Craig's life forever. His life will be left hanging in the balance in saddening scenes as the end appears to be nigh. The voice of DS Swain can be heard once again as she chillingly says: 'There isn't always more time.' Corrie star makes unannounced return to the soap in new role - 10 years after her debut Speaking about his exit scenes, Colson said: 'I can't wait for people to see Craig's final scenes. "It is exactly the exit I wanted for him and we are all really proud of what we filmed in those final weeks. It was actually great fun. # "I was walking around covered in fake blood for days and I was chuffed that I got to work with so many brilliant people in this final storyline.' It was revealed earlier this year that Colson had been axed from the ITV soap amid a string of high-profile exits. 7 7 The star confirmed it was not his choice to leave the show but understood soap bosses' decision. "I've learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. "I'm excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is the end of the beginning. "I genuinely can't wait to see what chapter two has in store for me." Craig's on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role. 7 7
