Harish Rao insulting judiciary after being rattled with Ghose Commission's findings: Uttam

Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy accused BRS MLA leader and former minister T. Harish Rao of insulting the judiciary for his criticism of the PC Ghose Commission's findings on the Kaleshwaram project, and demanded an apology. Mr. Reddy said the former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and Mr. Harish Rao were rattled after the Judicial Commission exposed the financial irregularities and that the Kaleshwaram project was approved without Cabinet consent, with contracts signed under dubious directions from Mr. KCR and Mr. Harish Rao. 'You committed a scam worth thousands of crores and now call the Judicial Commission a political vendetta?', he asked in response to Mr. Harish Rao's presentation on Tuesday. The Minister reminded that both former CM KCR and Mr. Harish Rao had appeared before the Judicial Commission. 'Why didn't Harish Rao raise these objections before the commission? Why come out now with baseless allegations in front of party workers?' he questioned. The commission's detailed report exposed widespread irregularities, design flaws and structural failures in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, particularly the sinking of the Medigadda barrage. Mr. Reddy said the Congress believes in democracy and the judiciary, which is why it was ready to hold a full discussion in the Assembly based on the Commission's report. 'Those found guilty, including former ministers, are welcome to join the debate and present their version,' he said.

Why hasn't full report on Kaleshwaram project been made public: BRS leader Niranjan

HYDERABAD: Stating that the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme was executed to quench the thirst of Telangana, BRS leader and former agriculture minister S Niranjan Reddy on Monday wondered if it is fair to make 'political accusations' without releasing the full PC Ghose Commission report on the project. 'It is laughable that the Congress is now talking about changing the project site of Kaleshwaram. It was the Congress that maliciously and deliberately changed the site of the Nagarjunasagar project in the past, permanently betraying Telangana,' he said. 'Due to the sins of Congress, Telangana is deprived of its rightful share of water,' he alleged. Niranjan said that the Kaleshwaram project was built after obtaining all the required approvals. 'No matter how many conspiracies they hatch against KCR, the truth will come out. Why hasn't the full PC Ghose Commission report been made public?' he asked. The former minister also stated that the Commission's report was not final and it could be challenged in court as per the Commissions of Inquiry Act. The Commission of Inquiry was constituted only to target KCR, he alleged. He alleged that the ruling Congress was trying to fulfil the wishes of the anti-Telangana forces and trying to portray KCR as someone who made an unprecedented blunder, which was not true.

The PC Ghose Commission report on Kaleshwaram project was submitted to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday and it is likely to come up in the next Cabinet meeting. Later, the Chief Minister held a preliminary discussion on the report. It is learnt that the PC Ghose Commission has made it clear in its report about failures in the construction of the barrages of Kaleshwaram project and said faults were seen from the lowest level to the highest level in the government. The Commission apparently felt that norms were thrown to the winds and works were done not professionally, by according to the whims and fancies of the individuals. The decisions at the engineering and construction level were taken due to pressure from the top officials and political bosses. Violations were found right from the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Committee, which was appointed to study the construction of the Kaleshwaram project comprehensively, including structural and procedural lapses and violations of norms in administrative decisions, submitted its report to the Irrigation Secretary Rahul Bojja on Thursday.
