'This is a moment I will never forget' - Hero police officers saved life of eight-month-old baby
Two hero police officers saved the life of an eight-month-old baby while responding to a call. PCs Harry Moore and Alexandra Higginson rushed to a concern for welfare call in Gorton. As soon as they arrived, the baby's desperate dad ran towards them with the unconscious infant in his arms. But the quick-thinking officers stayed calm. PC Moore began to perform CPR on the child while PC Higginson passed information to paramedics over the radio while supporting the family. "The baby was unconscious at the time with a very irregular breathing pattern. I immediately took the child from the father and started performing CPR. "Whilst performing CPR, I had to give the recovery breaths into the baby's nose because he had a locked jaw, which I now realise was because of the seizure." The ambulance arrived around five minutes into the ordeal. As the paramedics rushed to help, they took the baby into the ambulance and he had another seizure. However, he then started crying loudly, meaning he was back to breathing. PC Moore said: 'I told the father, who was just outside the ambulance at the time – he was so relieved and gave me a hug. This is a moment I will never forget. 'Alex travelled to hospital in the ambulance with the mother and baby and I followed separately. Alex constantly relayed vital information and got the details of all parties involved, which was really helpful – to be honest, I was in a bit of shock from performing CPR." The PCs were later told paramedics believed the baby had suffered an epileptic seizure, and that their vital work helped to save their life. 'I can't state enough how much of a team effort this job was," PC Moore said. "My colleague did an absolutely fantastic job of passing important information along as appropriate and we worked together as a team. 'We hope the baby and family they are all doing well and that the baby is happy and recovering."
