Nostalgia alert! PC Plum and Miss Hoolie reunite for Balamory reboot

PC Plum and Miss Hoolie have been spotted filming in the colourful streets of Tobermory, as it was confirmed that a Balamory reboot is underway. The BBC has officially commissioned a new series of the CBeebies favourite, which originally aired from 2002 to 2005. Some fans have even suggested the Balamory reboot is bigger than the Oasis reunion. Actor Andrew Agnew, who played the cheerful PC Plum, was seen in full costume in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull — the real-life setting for the fictional town. Wearing his trademark blue uniform and holding a notebook, PC Plum was pictured outside the pink and yellow houses that became instantly recognisable to young viewers across the UK. Miss Hoolie, meanwhile, has been popping up all over the place, and is ever patient with anyone who asks for a selfie. The original Balamory followed a group of characters living in a brightly coloured village, each with their own home, song and storyline. Its cast included Miss Hoolie, Archie the Inventor and Josie Jump, and the show was praised for its gentle humour and educational themes. Beloved stars Julie Wilson Nimmo (Miss Hoolie), Agnew (PC Plum), Kim Tserkezie (Penny Pocket) and Juliet Cadzow (Edie McCredie) are set to reprise their roles in the revamped series, which will air next year on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer. They will be joined by new characters, including Dr Ollie, played by Carl Spencer, and Ava Potts, played by Aberdeen-born Danielle Jam, who is a favourite of His Majesty's Theatre pantomimes. Isle of Mull Cheese was one location for a very cute visit from a little boy to see a dairy cow, with actor Carl Spencer taking on the role of a vet. A spokeswoman for Isle of Mull Cheese said: 'We are a dairy farm on Mull using all our milk to make into cheese and producing spirit from the whey.' And if you want to follow in the Balamory footsteps, they offer a farm shop cafe and factory tours. The Pier Cafe on the CalMac pier appears to have been a great vantage point for filming, and Balamory fans even managed to glimpse a music band starring PC Plum and Miss Hoolie. Crofter Karen Elwis, who grabbed a birthday selfie with cast members, said: 'I think filming will certainly have been interesting for the tourists. The presence of the cast and crew will have had temporary economic benefits — and the real tourism boost will come when the series airs.' Local shop Island Blue Tobermory has undergone a makeover for filming. It has been painted red to become Penny Pocket's shop. A spokesperson said on social media: 'We were thrilled to be approached to use our shopfront. The team have been friendly and professional throughout — and it's been a natural fit, given our love of colour.' The BBC said the reboot aims to 'reflect today's world while staying true to the spirit of the original'. PC Plum's return nearly 20 years on marks a new chapter for one of CBeebies' most iconic shows. The new series is expected to air in 2026. Balamory set to return to screen with original cast

Fan favourite characters like Miss Hoolie and PC Plum are set to return in a new Balamory series next year. The revival, which will air on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer, promises to 'blend familiar faces with a host of new characters' for a 'whole new generation.' The original stars announced to reprise their roles are Julie Wilson Nimmo (Miss Hoolie), Andrew Agnew (PC Plum), Kim Tserkezie (Penny Pocket) and Juliet Cadzow (Edie McCredie). The beloved children's television program set in the 'charming' fictional town of Balamory originally aired from 2002 to 2005. Now, two decades later the new series hopes to be both a revamp for new generations of children but also a 'nostalgic hit with parents who grew up with the show themselves'. Filming will take place both in the studio in Glasgow and on location in Tobermory, the real-life Isle of Mull town that inspired the show's iconic setting. BBC Kate Morton, head of commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children's and Education, said: 'It's wonderful to see some of the original cast returning alongside new faces, creating a perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery for families to enjoy together. 'This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown-ups who remember it fondly.' Children's TV icon announces return to series reboot after 20 years

A legend of British children's TV has confirmed that he'll be reprising his iconic role from one of the best-loved kids shows of the last 20 years. Andrew Agnew, who played PC Plum in Balamory between 2002 and 2005, will be stepping back into his old costume for the planned reboot, coming in 2026. Balamory, which ran for four seasons and more than 200 episodes, was the Scottish kids' TV show that defined a generation with its memorable 'What's the Story?' theme tune and picturesque setting. Filmed in the town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull – one of the largest of the Inner Hebrides islands in Scotland – Balamory followed the lives of the small fictional island community who lived in the titular village. In September 2024, it was confirmed that Balamory would be returning with brand new episodes in 2026, with BBC bosses setting the official revival date. Ever since, speculation has been rife as to whether its lead stars Andrew, Julie Wilson Nimmo, and Miles Jupp, among others, would be coming back for another go. Now Andrew has confirmed that he'd be well up for producing more stories from Balamory, returning to the role of Balamory's local police officer PC Plum. He told BBC Radio Scotland's Lunchtime Live that he'd be more than eager to get back to Tobermory for more filming when production resumes in the near future. 'If they ask me to go back then I'll absolutely be there with bells on, I'm sure. But at the moment we're all just getting excited at the fact that it's happening. I don't think it would be same if we weren't involved in it.' Andrew's recent comments echo those of Julie's too, who simply said 'Yup' when asked by a fan of the show if she'd be coming back as Miss Hoolie, Balamory's nursery teacher. Joking that Balamory's anticipated return was 'bigger than the Oasis reunion', Julie made it clear that any future episodes of the children's show would involve her. Head of children's TV at the BBC, Kate Morton, revealed the news in 2024: 'A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies. 'It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world getting to know a host of old and new characters together.' More Trending While some of the old cast appear to be returning, there's also the question of whether a reboot calls for some original and newly developed characters. And while many fans would love of whether production will return to the beautiful Isle of Mull, which has a population of approximately 3,000 people. BBC Balamory producers seek out Scots kids to star in hit show's reboot 20 years on

The show has been commissioned for two new series on CBeebies from next year, with some of the old characters expected to make an appearance. Balamory producers have launched a casting call for Scots kids to star in the hit show as they prepare for its return after 20 years. The CBeebies show, which aired from 2002 until 2005, was based on a fictional pastel-hued island community and residents such as Miss Hoolie, PC Plum, Josie Jump, Edie McCredie and Archie the inventor. The Bafta-winning series, which was originally filmed in the colourful town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, had 15million devotees worldwide and attracted two million viewers a week in Britain. And now its creators are looking for youngsters aged between four and five years old "from all backgrounds and abilities" to be a part of the show, which is set to hit screens next year. ‌ Cerebral Palsy Scotland shared the appeal from Lion TV on Facebook, saying: "We're sharing a fun, inclusive TV opportunity from a production filming in accessible spaces in Glasgow this summer (July–Sept 2025)! ‌ "They're looking for 4–5 year olds from all backgrounds and abilities to take part – no scripts, just natural reactions and a bit of fun (maybe even a song). "Casting sessions will be held in nurseries or informal meetups with families." Balamory was broadcast around the world, becoming a hit with young audiences in Europe, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada and South Africa and became famous for its catchy songs. The programme was cancelled after four seasons and 254 episodes, but the BBC announced in September that it has commissioned two new series, which will begin airing in 2026. ‌ Julie Wilson Nimmo, who played Miss Hoolie, declared the return of the show would be "bigger than the Oasis reunion". She said: "Everyone I know loves the show and has been missing it.' ‌ In January, following a tender process, Lion Television Scotland, an All3Media company, secured the contract to produce the return of the show. BBC Children's and Education said the new programmes would be filmed in Scotland, either in Tobermory or possibly another Scottish location such as Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. Kate Morton, head of commissioning 0-6, said: 'A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies. "It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world getting to know a host of old and new characters together.'
