Alexander Isak breaks silence with first statement on Liverpool transfer saga

Liverpool target Alexander Isak has said his relationship with Newcastle United 'can't continue' as he spoke publicly for the first time about his future. The Swedish striker, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, has made clear his desire to leave St James' Park this summer to join the defending champions. However, Newcastle have held firm and said they won't sell the player, who still has three years left on his contract, unless their £150million valuation is met. Isak opted out of Newcastle's pre-season tour and missed their league opener as he continues to train separately from the rest of Eddie Howe's first-team squad. But the 25-year-old has taken it a step further as he looks to force a move this summer, releasing a remarkable public statement in which he accused Newcastle of 'breaking promises' made to him. Isak makes a statement: 'Promises broken, trust lost, relationship can't continue'

Alexander Isak has dug his heels in ever deeper as he tries to force a transfer away from Newcastle, presumably to reigning Premier League champions Liverpool, who have had multiple offers for the superstar striker rejected already this summer. TRANSFER NEWS — Spurs, Crystal Palace reportedly agree deal for Eberechi Eze Isak, who chose not to attend Tuesday's PFA Awards in Manchester where he is set to be recognized for his place in the best XI last season, released an explosive statement to Fabrizio Romano, explaining not only his absence from the ceremony but also the reason for his situation with Newcastle. Alexander Isak statement about Newcastle transfer standoff 'I'm proud to be recognized by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024-25. Alexander Isak finally breaks silence on Liverpool transfer saga: "Promises have been broken"

Alexander Isak has spoken for the first time regarding his bitter transfer saga with Newcastle and insisted that "promises have been broken". The Swede is determined to force through a move to Premier League champions Liverpool this summer and is adamant he has played his final game for the club. On Tuesday he was absent from the PFA Awards, where he was included in the Team of the Year. And speaking shortly after his inclusion he delivered a blunt statement surrounding the furious impasse. 'I'm proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25,' he wrote in a statement posted to social media. First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way. 'I'm not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn't feel right to be there. I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. 'The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.' Isak has been training away from Newcastle's first team after he missed their pre-season tour of Asia, with Liverpool seeing an initial bid of £110million rejected. The striker did not play in Newcastle's Premier League opener, a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, and the Magpies have been struggling to find a potential replacement. Newcastle missed out on Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, who joined Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United respectively, and winger Anthony Gordon started up front against Villa after Callum Wilson was allowed to leave on a free transfer. "It seems like the striker market gets tighter every year," manager Eddie Howe admitted when asked about Newcastle's struggles in the transfer market. "Maybe that's because we have continued to grow as a team. "There's not many players of that calibre to make us better and when they're potentially available the price seems to go up, and then you are dealt other challenges like PSR [profit and sustainability regulations], how much you spend in the window, the long-term effects if you do the transfer. "It is not as clear as going out and getting any player. They have got to fit the team, make us better and be affordable. That's not a large group of players." Ryan Gravenberch ban truth as Community Shield theory debunked after Liverpool red card

Ryan Gravenberch will not miss the Community Shield due to the red card he received on the final day of the Premier League season. Instead, the midfielder's suspension will carry over to the start of the new league campaign in August. It means Gravenberch, who played 49 games this term, will be eligible for the annual curtain raiser when Liverpool takes on Crystal Palace in the Community Shield. The date for that match has not been set but it will be played at Wembley on the weekend of August 9-10. The new Premier League season will start the following week, with the initial fixture list to be released on June 18. The midfielder was shown a straight red card in the 68th minute of the Reds' final match of the season, also against Palace. Having miscontrolled the ball as Liverpool's last man back, Gravenberch lunged to regain possession but instead felled Daichi Kamada with the Palace man set to have a clear run at goal. Referee Darren England had little choice but to administer a straight red card despite teammate Virgil van Dijk's remonstrations. It meant a disappointing end to what was a fantastic season for Gravenberch, who won the Premier League Young Player of the Year Award. The 23-year-old started 37 of the 38 league games, the exception being the trip to Chelsea immediately after Liverpool was crowned champion. He is also likely to be selected in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season. Gravenberch's transformation into a holding midfielder proved to be integral to Liverpool's successful campaign, especially after missing out on Martin Zubimendi the previous summer. The Dutchman's impressive displays, flanked alongside Alexis Mac Allister were instrumental in Liverpool amassing such a huge lead at the top of the table heading into the spring months. 'During a phone call in the first conversation I had with Arne, he said to me: 'I see you as a No.8 but I want to try you as a No.6'," Gravenberch told The Athletic in a recent interview. "I played there against Manchester United in pre-season and after that game, he just put me there. I was like: 'OK, let's do it'. From that moment, I only played as a No.6. "I didn't play a lot in that position before but this season, that position has made me who I am now. I am not naturally a defensive midfielder. I also like to drive forward with the ball. It's been good so far."
