Defending State Champions end Sharpsville's season
NESHANNOCK, Pa. (WKBN) – Sharpsville's softball season came to end Monday with a 10-0 loss in 5 innings to undefeated Neshannock. The defending state champions scored three runs in the 1st inning, two in the 2nd, and five more in the 3rd to clinch the victory in the PIAA Class 2A First Round meeting. The Lancers improve to (23-0) and advance to the PIAA State Quarterfinals on Thursday to play Chestnut Ridge. The Lions (17-7) advanced in their First Round matchup with a 4-0 victory over Red Bank Valley. Sharpsville finishes the season with a (14-9) overall record. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Walk-off win for Sharon softball in State Tournament
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (WKBN) – The Sharon softball team advanced in the PIAA State Tournament in dramatic fashion Monday with a walk-off win against South Park in the Class 3A First Round. The Tigers surrendered a run in the top of the seventh inning, but responded in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore standout Madelyn Vogan doubled to tie the game at 1. Then, with the bases loaded, sophomore Mya Bundrant laid down a bunt, Vogan beat the throw home, and Sharon walked off with a 2-1 victory on the safety squeeze. Vogan was impressive against the circle. The Tigers' pitcher earned her 22nd win of the season, allowing one unearned run with 12 strikeouts. The Tigers improve to 22-1 on the season and will advance to the PIAA State Quarterfinals on Thursday to play undefeated Susquenita. The Blackhawks (22-0) cruised past Phillipsburg-Osceola 11-0 in their First Round matchup. The South Park Eagles finish the season at (19-3). Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Kennedy Catholic girls advance to the State Quarterfinals
NEW CASTLE, Pa (WKBN) – Kennedy Catholic girls basketball downs Neshannock 50-36 in the Second Round of the Class 2A PIAA State Championships Tuesday night. Watch above for extended highlights! 'What we take away is that you never give up and if you defend, you have a chance to win every game. Offense wins games, defense wins championships,' said Kennedy Catholic head coach Justin Magestro. 'I love to see the red-sea out there. We were supported by our whole community and I love them.' Golden Eagle's senior Madison Pfleger scored a game-high 19 points with four successful three-point shots. Also, senior Layke Fields scored 12 points and sophomore Tori Harvey posted nine. Neshannock's Payton Newman scored 19 and Sophia Bonner 10 points in the loss. The Lancers end the season with a record of (22-3). The Golden Eagles advance to a season record of (20-5).
