Laura Fünfstück holds nerve to claim maiden LET victory
Laura Fünfstück held her nerve during the final round of the PIF London Championship to clinch a one-stroke victory at Centurion Club. On a sunny day in Hertfordshire, it was a tightly contested final day with 10 players finishing within three shots of Fünfstück. The German star had a three-shot lead overnight but had a tricky start to the day as she was three-over after four holes. However, she recovered well and produced a stunning back nine to leave her with a one-foot birdie to seal her maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) title with a score of 10-under-par. "At the beginning of the day, I said I want to earn this today and I did on the back nine," said Fünfstück. "I was so nervous, I had half a sausage for breakfast. I'm starving now. I'm so happy, I'm so pleased. That was fun. "Hopefully, we're just getting started. It's massively kind of validating because everyone defines themselves if they're a Tour winner or not." After her tricky start, the 30-year-old, who lives in London with her wife fellow LET professional Rosie Davies, bounced back with a birdie on the seventh before dropping another shot on the ninth. The German then kicked into gear on the back nine rolling in birdies on 12 and 14 to put herself back into contention before she finished in style with birdies on 17 and 18 for her final round of 72 (-1). She continued: "Last week [AIG Women's Open], semi-helped with that because I was in contention after the first few days and then gave it away a lot on the weekend. I knew what it was like to not have the start that you want to have. "If you keep plotting away, I knew there were a lot of chances on the back nine. I'm super pleased that I got it over the line. "I can't thank the people on my team that have pushed me over the years enough, they believed in me when I haven't especially my wife – she's a superhero – and I definitely wouldn't be here without her." Ecuador's Daniela Darquea produced a round of 68 on the final day to finish in outright second place with a total of nine-under-par at Centurion Club. The LET rookie dropped just two shots and rolled in seven birdies to record her best-ever finish on the LET. Five-time LET winner Anne Van Dam finished with a flourish carding an eagle on the last to end the week in solo third place on eight-under-par. Seven players finished in a share of fourth place with Olivia Cowan, Adela Cernousek, Alice Hewson, Lee-Anne Pace, Mimi Rhodes, Kim Metraux and Manon De Roey all on seven-under-par. Lauren Walsh finished best of the Irish with a two-under par closing round of 71, which contained five birdies and three dropped strokes. The Kildare woman finished on even par overall in tied-34th. Lurgan's Annabel Wilson finished three strokes further back after an even par round of 73 on Saturday, leaving her in tied-49th. Sara Byrne and Anna Foster missed yesterday's cut at the 54-hole event, which was won last year by Leona Maguire, who was not around this week. In the LET Order of Merit, Rhodes extends her lead at the top and now has 1,821.74 points to her name and PIF London Championship winner Fünfstück has climbed from 32nd to 11th in the rankings.

Diksha fights back to even par, lies 13th in London
Diksha Dagar survived a roller-coaster on the back nine to card an even par 73 in the second round of the PIF London Championship held at Centurion Club. Diksha, who has had a series of Top-10s this season, is now Tied-13th after being Tied-10th at the end of the first day. Of the four Indian women who teed up this week, three made the cut. The other two were Pranavi Urs and Aditi Ashok. Pranavi (75-71) was even par for two days at the Par-73 Centurion Club and was Tied-28th. Aditi Ashok (73-74) was T-37 at 1-over for two rounds. Rookie Avani Prashanth (76-76) missed the cut. The cut fell at +3 with 65 players making it through to the final day of action at Centurion Club. Diksha birdied the first and the sixth with a bogey in between on the third to turn in 1-under. On the back nine, she dropped a shot on the 10th and then gave away a double bogey on the Par-4 12th. The gritty golfer, who has set her eyes on her National title, the Women's Indian Open, birdied the 13th and the 16th to recover to even par 73. In the Individual competition, Germany's Laura Funfstuck fired a round of 70 (-3) on day two to hold a three-shot lead heading into the final day. The German started with a birdie at the first before rolling in three birdies in four holes on the sixth, eighth and ninth. A dropped shot on 15 was followed by an excellent par-save on 16 before another dropped shot on 17, but she finished in style with a birdie at the last to reach nine-under-par. Four players are in a share of second place with Spain's Carlota Ciganda, Belgium's Manon De Roey, France's Perrine Delacour and South Africa's Casandra Alexander all on six-under-par. England's Cara Gainer and Switzerland's Chiara Tamburlini are in a tie for sixth place on five-under-par with five players one shot further back in T8. Team Du Toit secured a one-stroke victory winning with a total of 29-under-par at the PIF London Championship held at Centurion Club. Diksha in Team Nadaud finished seventh, and Avani Prashanth was in Team Briem, which was also tied seventh. Aditi led the team, which had Pranavi, and they were 21st. The quartet of Danielle Du Toit, Sarah Kemp, Marta Sanz Barrio, and Megan Dennis began the day in a share of 11th place on 13-under-par. They began the day on the 10th tee, and it didn't take long for some putts to drop as they made the turn in 10-under for the day, thanks to eagles from Du Toit and Sanz Barrio. On their back nine, it was a steadier pace, but they remained in contention, and Du Toit and Dennis rolled in putts at the last to climb to the top of the leaderboard and seal victory. It was a remarkable turnaround for South Africa's Du Toit, who had teed it up on the LET Access Series earlier this week and then withdrew to fly to London to be first reserve. Following Charley Hull's withdrawal due to injury, Du Toit was drafted into the competition and ended up captaining the quartet to victory.

Wrexham diehard Chloe Williams makes cut at PIF London Championship just as Ryan Reynold's club suffer
Seeing as she was just a shot or two clear of the projected cut line at the time, Chloe Williams might have been expected to be all business late in her second round at the PIF London Championship. Instead, she was chatting with her partner over the ropes, asking to be kept updated on the football scores. Being from Wrexham, it was rather a special day, after all. Williams' back nine coincided with the first match of the season since their promotion to the Championship. As the 30-year-old's round was reaching crunch point, so was the match. The club who have shot to world fame thanks to their takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and the subsequent docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, were holding a 1-0 lead away at Southampton. Scalping a side who were playing Premier League football last season perfectly fitted the Hollywood script. Then it suddenly turned into a horror show, as Southampton grabbed two goals in injury time to win it. But at least Williams made the cut in the golf. Some you win, some you lose. 'I am Wrexham born and bred, but have always followed the Premier League,' Williams said, straight after signing for an even-par 73 in Round 2 at Centurion Club. 'My dad is a Liverpool fan and Wrexham fan, and I have been watching Wrexham since I was eight years old. I am obviously super proud of the fact they are doing amazingly. 'Not a great start today. My partner was walking the course and I was asking what the score was. We were flying, then there were an extra seven minutes, and they scored two in seven. 'That wasn't ideal, but it is going to be like that in this league.' Williams is planning to go to the Racecourse Ground for Wrexham's next match, against Hull City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening. She has a red club-head cover for her driver bearing the name of the club's home ground. Which must make things a little challenging for her caddie this week. With her regular bag man, her father Paul, away while coaching a Wales junior team this week, she enlisted the services of Mike Dean, the former Premier League referee. Dean had to be impartial during his top-tier refereeing career. But he is also a noted supporter of Tranmere Rovers, a lower division side who might have looked on enviously at the change of fortunes Wrexham have had in recent times. 'Little old Wrexham had never been heard of before,' Williams said. 'It is just a small town in Wales, albeit with a big population, and now everybody seems to know about it. International people, European people, they have all heard of this team. 'It has put us on the map and I am super proud of that. To say that I am from there is great. There are lots of players on tour who enjoy their football, and I have Mike Dean, Premier League ref on my bag this week. 'He is a Tranmere fan, which is awful. We have great banter, and they won today, so he is happy with that. I am proud to be from Wrexham and Welsh, and I am looking forward to seeing them hopefully do all right this year.' Despite the differing allegiances, Williams says her temporary arrangement with Dean is a very enjoyable one. 'He's a great guy and I'd have him again to step in, definitely,' Williams said. 'He is super relaxed. We are both quite similar in terms of having a dry sense of humour. We have a laugh, which I like because it keeps it relaxed, and he is positive at the same time.' The first two days of the PIF London Championship, which is organised by Golf Saudi, had a team tournament running simultaneously with the conventional singles. Each four-ball were a team, with their combined score counting towards the competition. Although Williams' quartet finished among the also-rans, she appeared to thrive in the situation. Along with Diksha Dagar's caddie, her father Narinder, Williams was the most voluble cheerleader in the group over the two days. 'I love being part of a team,' she said. 'I play football still at home and am very much a team player. We don't get this opportunity very often, so having the team aspect within an event is fun. 'You can really spur each other on, especially if a player might have had a bit of a bad hole. You can just encourage each other, and you would never usually do that. 'It is nice to have that format and enjoy playing with fellow competitors, and not always be serious individuals. The football side of me comes out.'
