PM Modi to release 20th installment of PM-KISAN from Varanasi on August 2

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on August 2 from Varanasi, marking another significant step in the government's direct benefit transfer initiative for farmers. The PM-KISAN scheme is a central sector scheme launched in February 2019 by Prime Minister Modi to supplement the financial needs of land-holding farmers. Under this scheme, the financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal instalments is transferred into the bank accounts of farmers' families across the country through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. The PM-KISAN scheme is one of the largest DBT schemes in the world. On Wednesday, a high-level meeting to finalise preparations for the nationwide event was held in Delhi, chaired by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Chouhan described the PM-KISAN scheme as a "historic success", highlighting its role in directly supporting farmers' incomes. He announced that the distribution of the 20th instalment would be conducted as a nationwide campaign, with events organised across all states. These gatherings will witness participation from lakhs of farmers, along with Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and other public representatives. The meeting also included a virtual session with 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), over 100 institutes of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and Vice Chancellors and officials from agricultural universities across India to coordinate efforts ahead of the Varanasi event. "This is not just a financial transaction but a mission to empower our farmers and raise awareness," Chouhan said. He urged that the programme be organised with enthusiasm and wide participation, ensuring it reaches farmers at the grassroots level. The upcoming 20th instalment, amounting to approximately Rs 20,500 crore, will benefit around 9.7 crore farmers nationwide. To ensure maximum participation and outreach, Minister Chouhan directed officials to engage rural networks, including Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, Bank Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, Insurance Sakhis, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches, to spread awareness about the event and mobilise local communities. "I appeal to all farmer brothers and sisters to actively join these programmes on August 2 and make this a festival of gratitude and empowerment," he added. Also present at the meeting were Union Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr Mangi Lal Jat, and other senior officials, who discussed logistical details and promotional strategies to ensure the programme's success. Under PM-KISAN, the government provides Rs 6,000 annually to eligible farmers, transferred in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each. Since its inception in 2019, the scheme has disbursed over Rs 3.69 lakh crore across 19 instalments, directly into farmers' bank accounts. On February 24, Prime Minister Modi had released the 19th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in Bihar's Bhagalpur. During the event, over 9.8 crore farmers, including 2.41 crore female farmers, across the country benefited, receiving direct financial assistance exceeding Rs 22,000 crore through DBT without involvement of any middlemen.

MP: Guna farmers benefit from PM-KISAN scheme, say it helped them get rid of lenders

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana has brought considerable change in the lives of farmers as they are getting monetary assistance under the scheme, helping them to meet any unforeseen circumstances. The assistance of Rs 6,000 per year, in three quarterly installments of Rs 2,000 each, helps them in meeting many agricultural expenses including buying fertiliser, seeds and ploughing. In Madhya Pradesh's Guna, a couple of farmers shared with IANS on how the scheme helped them tide over crisis and also eradicated the lenders from the farming sector, to a great extent. Gopal Kirar, a resident of Jhagar village in Guna said: 'PM-KISAN ended the economic woes of farmers to large extent. We use the money to buy agricultural goods.' Laxman Kirar, resident of Jhagar village echoed similar views and said that the assistance was helping them address the farming expenses. Mohar Singh Dhakad of Sujakhedi village said: 'PM-KISAN is very beneficial scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led govt. Small and poor farmers are getting a lot of benefit from this scheme.' 'Earlier, they had to take money from the banks to work. Through PM-KISAN, they have got rid of lenders to a large extent as they are longer needed to avail loan,' said another farmer. Jitendra Kirar said: 'The money from scheme fulfills the agricultural needs. PM Kisan is a boon for farmers with less land.' Raghuveer Dhakad thanked PM Modi-led government for addressing the needs of farming community and said that PM-KISAN was making them financially stronger. Notably, the PM KISAN scheme was launched on February 2, 2019. Over the years, it has become a transformative force for India's agricultural sector. Under this scheme, every eligible farming family receives an annual benefit of Rs 6,000. This amount is directly transferred to beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, making it one of the largest and most transparent DBT schemes globally.

India ramps up fertiliser production output, diversifies away from China

Mumbai: After China halted critical fertiliser supplies, the Indian manufacturers are increasing domestic output through advanced technologies and new formulations, according to a report on Monday. India's fertiliser industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.2 per cent, reaching $16.58 billion by 2032. In FY25, total fertiliser production increased to 51 MT, supported by flagship schemes such as PM-KISAN and PM-Garib Kalyan Yojana, CareEdge Ratings said in its report. After restrictions on rare earth elements, China halted its speciality fertilisers and key phosphate exports to India. In response to this, India has secured a five-year agreement with Saudi Arabia to import 3.1 million tonnes of Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) annually, which is equivalent to approximately 30 per cent of its domestic requirement. 'This crisis presents a unique opportunity. With China pausing fertiliser supplies, Indian manufacturers are stepping up to bridge the gap by increasing domestic output, which will not only benefit them but also drive innovation, particularly through the adoption of advanced technologies and the development of new formulations," said Priti Agarwal, Senior Director at CareEdge Ratings. "Policymakers, manufacturers, and farmers are collaborating to combat the issue with a combination of alternative sourcing, local production, and on-the-ground innovation,' she added. China accounted for nearly 70 per cent of India's speciality fertiliser imports during the June to December period in recent years. Now, India is signalling a decisive shift towards supply diversification and enhanced resilience by exploring alternatives like Saudi Arabia, Israel, Jordan, Russia, Oman, Morocco. Chinese di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) supply to India began to decline in 2023, then dropped from 2.29 MT in FY24 to 0.84 MT in FY25, and there have been no shipments since early 2025. Inspection clearances for DAP and speciality fertiliser shipments to India have been withheld since April 2025, blocking supplies while exports to other nations continue. "Ensuring adequate inventory and timely distribution — through coordinated efforts between the government and private stakeholders should be the near-term focus. The recent agreement with Saudi Arabia for long-term DAP supply is a timely step in this direction,' said Sachin Mathur, Associate Director at CareEdge Ratings.

Beat Inflation Like a Pro While inflation erodes bank FD returns, farmland: - Grows in value as food prices rise - Generates 3-8% rental yields from farmers (better than most rental properties) - Qualifies for tax-free capital gains if reinvested under Section 54B 3. Government Goldmine The Modi government is pouring money into farming through: - PM-KISAN (₹6,000/year direct transfers) - 100% FDI allowed in farm infrastructure - Subsidies for drip irrigation, solar pumps, and organic farming 4. Outperform Urban Real Estate Compare the two: Parameter City Property Agricultural Land Entry Price ₹1Cr+ for small plot ₹5-20L/acre (semi urban) Appreciation Stagnant in many areas 10-25% near growth zones Additional Income Only rentals Crops + leasing + tourism 5. Farmhouse Boom Wealthy Indians are snapping up farmland for: - Luxury Farmhouse retreats (50- 150 km from metros) - Organic food startups (₹500/kg for exotic veggies) - Solar power plants (25-year govt. contracts) 5 Crucial Precautions You Should Take 1. Ensure Dispute-Free Property - Verify 7/12 extract & 8A mutation papers - Check for family disputes (common in inherited land) - Confirm no bank liens or pending litigation 2. Location Intelligence High-growth zones: - Within 100km of metros - Along expressways - Near upcoming airports Red flags: - Water-scarce regions - Naxal-affected districts - Restricted tribal areas 3. Soil & Water Audit - Test for soil nutrients (labs charge ₹2,000-5,000) - Check groundwater levels (avoid areas with >500ft borewells) - Verify electricity availability for pumps 4. Legal Safeguards - Non-agriculturists can't buy in J&K, Himachal - Tribal land requires special permissions in many states - Conversion charges apply for farmhouse construction 5. Exit Strategy - Keep land within municipal limits for easier resale - Prefer areas with clear zoning policies - Document all access roads (avoid landlocked plots) Bottom line: Agricultural Land investment offers what no other asset can: ✔ Inflation-proof income ✔ Explosive appreciation near cities ✔ Multiple profit streams (crops, leasing, development) Ideal for: - NRIs building India portfolios - Business owners diversifying beyond stocks - Young investors starting with ₹5-20L If you're looking for an ideal investment in farmland, then look no further than the Mruganayani Project by Kapil Farms.
