ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday paid rich tribute to Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider), on his 77th martyrdom anniversary. The president said that seventy-seven years ago on this day, during the first Kashmir war, Capt. Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed laid down his life for the motherland. 'The nation is proud of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed's courage, perseverance, and supreme sacrifice' President Secretariat Press Wing, in a press release, quoted the president as saying. The president further said that today's safe and secure Pakistan was the result of the great sacrifices rendered by their heroes, adding the entire nation saluted the bravery and sacrifice of Capt. Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed. He said Shaheed Sarwar Shaheed wrote an unforgettable chapter in the nation's defence by sacrificing his life. The president said the sacrifices of the martyrs were the foundation of national defense and stability. The nation would always remember the sacrifice of Capt. Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed. The prime minister, in his message, said that along with the entire nation, he paid heartfelt tribute to Capt. Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, the first recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, on his martyrdom anniversary for his courage and bravery. 'The brave son of the nation embraced shahadat while thwarting the enemy's evil designs of an aggressive occupation of Jammu and Kashmir,' PM Office Media Wing, in a press release, quoted the prime minister as saying. Capt Sarwar's valour set a precedent emulated by the soldiers of Pakistan Armed Forces who always preferred defense of the motherland than their own lives, he said, adding the proud nation of Pakistan could never forget the sacrifices of their martyrs.

PM approves creation of digital ecosystem at FBR

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday granted approval for the formation of a modern and globally standard digital ecosystem in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), besides directed hiring of internationally renowned experts. During a meeting to review progress on the ongoing reforms in the FBR, the prime minister observed that the economy was moving in a positive direction due to the recent reforms in FBR. Ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahsad Khan Cheema, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, FBR Chairman, Chief Coordinator Musharraf Zaidi, economic experts and other senior officials attended the meeting, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. The meeting was briefed on the progress regarding the formation of a modern digital ecosystem aimed at centralizing FBR's data and enabling real-time monitoring of the entire value chain. The prime minister, while chairing the meeting, emphasized that not only digitization, but a comprehensive digital ecosystem should be established to strengthen the new system and directed that all the relevant data, from raw material production and import, to manufacturing of goods and the final consumers' purchase, should be integrated into a single system. The prime minister said the system should be made so effective that the entire value chain could be monitored digitally in real time. He further opined that the centralized data collected under this system should be utilized for the economic strategic decision-making. The prime minister stressed that the goal of reducing taxes for the common man could only be achieved by increasing the tax base and ending the informal economy. Incentive scheme Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to continue the incentive scheme for the remittances of overseas Pakistanis to Pakistan. He directed the Ministry of Finance to immediately release funds for the Workers' Remittances Incentive Scheme on priority basis. He said, "Overseas Pakistanis are our strength and a valuable asset of Pakistan." "The hard-earned remittances of overseas Pakistanis play an important role in the development of Pakistan, which the entire nation, including me, values," he added. In the fiscal year 2025, he said overseas Pakistanis played a key role in achieving the target of current account surplus for the first time in 14 years by sending a record high of $38.3 billion in remittances. These remittances not only helped pay the rising import bill but also helped increase foreign exchange reserves, he noted. He said "Overseas workers and businessmen play a crucial role in the country's development and progress by sending remittances to their homeland."

PM reiterates talk offer to India

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan was ready for a meaningful dialogue with India on all outstanding issues. The prime minister stated this during his meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. The prime minister expressed his appreciation for the UK's role in de-escalation of tensions during the Pakistan-India stand-off. He welcomed the UK government's recent decision to resume PIA flights to and from the UK, which he said, would go a long way in alleviating the hardships faced by the British Pakistani community as well as enhancing people-to-people exchanges. He particularly appreciated the role of the high commissioner in this regard. The regional situation in South Asia and the Middle East was also discussed. The UK high commissioner thanked the prime minister for receiving her and briefed him about her recent visit to London, where she had extensive consultations on enhancing Pakistan-UK bilateral ties. She lauded the government's economic performance in the last year and a half, under the vision and leadership of the prime minister, which had brought about a significant improvement in all key macro-economic indicators. She also shared with the prime minister, the UK's perspective on regional developments in South Asia and the Middle East. Privatization Commission Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the authorities to ensure that the Privatization Commission would be given full autonomy as per the law to eliminate red tape and unnecessary elements during the denationalisation process of the state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The prime minister chaired a review meeting on the progress of privatization of SOEs here at the Prime Minister's Office, a PM Office news release said.

Prime Minister Shehbz Sharif on Monday invited the Etisalat Group to further invest in various sectors of Pakistan's economy and assured that the government would provide all necessary facilities in this regard. He met with a five-member delegation of the Emirati telecommunications company Etisalat Group, led by its CEO Hatem Dowidar that called on him, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. The president of Azerbaijan briefed the prime minister and the Turkish president about the history of Khankendi and its historical buildings the other day, PM Office Media Wing, on Saturday, said in a press release. The three leaders engaged in an informal and pleasant conversation. During the walk, the leaders held their hands as a gesture of exemplary fraternal relations and solidarity among Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan.
