Christian Wilkins upset teammate with ‘playful kiss' before ugly $110 million Raiders split

The Raiders' abrupt release of star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins on Thursday wasn't only about his lingering foot injury, and involved an alleged incident in which he playfully tried to kiss another teammate, according to multiple reports. During a Monday appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show,' ESPN's Adam Schefter said people inside the Raiders locker room are 'tip-toeing around' the matter, described as Wilkins jokingly trying to kiss a teammate on the top of his head, and that unidentified player getting offended. Wilkins — who signed a four-year, $110 million contract, including $82.75 million guaranteed, with the Raiders last offseason — was released on Thursday with the designation of 'terminated vested veteran,' due to a conflict in his rehab process for a Jones fracture suffered last October, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson. The Raiders reportedly voided the remaining $35.2 million of guaranteed money left on Wilkins' contract due to his handling of his rehab. 'With no clear path or plan for future return to play from Christian, this transaction is necessary for the entire organization to move forward and prepare for the new season.' The Raiders have yet to address any alleged locker room incident involving Wilkins. Getty Images Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said Friday that the club 'took a long time to make our decision' about Wilkins, and that they had no choice but to move on without a clear future in sight. 'This place is about competition,' Carroll, who is entering his first season with the team, said. 'It always has been. It's wide open. I'm not going to talk about any names right now. If you watch the rotations, we're giving everybody a chance. We're mixing the (starters) with the (backups) all the way throughout just to gather a bunch of information.' The Raiders open the 2025 campaign against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Sept. 7.

Adam Schefter offers troubling update on Terry McLaurin and Commanders

"It's up to the two sides to figure out a way to bridge their of today I don't get the sense that anything is close" ~ @AdamSchefter #PMSLive ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday and shared some information about Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders, as well as the reasons why the two sides remain far apart in contract talks. Schefter said McLaurin wants more money than fellow class of 2019 draftee, DK Metcalf, who signed a new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason at an average annual value of $33 million. While the two are from the same draft class, Metcalf is over two years younger. "It's been vast," Schefter said when asked what the separation was between the two sides. "It's up to the two sides to figure out a way to bridge their differences. But I would say that DK Metcalf was the same draft class as Terry McLaurin, he got about $33 million per year, and I wouldn't think that Terry is going to take less than that, and I think he wants considerably more than that. Now, what it comes in at, we'll wind up seeing. Washington, they're not there right now. They love and value Terry McLaurin but they love and value him at a different price. So, these two sides right now seem apart on a deal. They don't seem close today. I don't know how they're going to get that resolved and figured out, but these things usually find a way of working themselves out over time, but as of today, I don't get the sense that anything's close." Some assumed that when McLaurin showed up at camp, the two sides were progressing toward a deal. There is no NFL reporter more plugged-in than Schefter, and he says they remain far apart. If McLaurin is asking for more than Metcalf, "considerably more," perhaps, this may go into the season. While we don't know what Washington is offering, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said last week it was around $27 million. That's a lot of ground to make up. Numbers-wise, McLaurin has a strong case to be paid more. However, most NFL GMs look at the ages of the player over the life of a long-term contract. That's hurting McLaurin here. He's not in the same class as Justin Jefferson, who is averaging $35 million per year. McLaurin's agent has been on the sideline with him over the last two days at Commanders' training camp.

Tyrese Haliburton not mad at Myles Turner for jumping to Bucks, 'At the end of the day it is a business'

With Tyrese Haliburton out for next season and the luxury tax staring them in the face, Pacers ownership and management reportedly low-balled free agent Myles Turner. The Milwaukee Bucks stunned everyone by waiving Damian Lillard to create enough cap space to swoop in and sign Turner to a four-year, $108.9 million contract much more in line with his comparable value around the league. Haliburton's not mad at Turner for jumping ship, he said in an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, Haliburton's first public comments since his injury. "Myles Turner did some great things here.. The NBA is a business and he's gotta do what's best for him.. I wish him the best moving forward" @TyHaliburton22 #PMSLive 'Since I've gotten here and for the last 10 years Myles' name has been synonymous with our organization... At the end of the day it is a business, he's gotta do what's best for him. I wish him the best moving forward. My focus is on the guys here and getting better here, but I wish him the best moving forward.' Professional athletes understand they are in a business and that they have a relatively short window to make money. With that, they rarely criticize another player for grabbing the biggest bag they can — make your money, set up your family. Players' friendships and respect don't change because of those business decisions. In other Haliburton-related news: • In that same ESPN interview, Haliburton said it may be more bad luck than anything else that has led to the rise in Achilles injuries in the NBA. 'Everybody thinks we play too many games, we play too many minutes -- all those things could be true, but I don't think that is what's causing these injuries... So I don't think that anybody has necessarily the answer. I think injuries are just bad luck sometimes and that's just what happened. I think that's just what happens in sports sometimes.' • Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan said the team has applied for and been granted a disabled injury exception for Haliburton for next season. In this case, that gives the Pacers a $14.1 million exception to sign a player (but does not free up a roster spot). The Pacers currently have 13 players under guaranteed contracts for next season, and Buchanan said on the Setting The Pace podcast that point guard depth is something they are considering.

New Discouraging Update on Commanders Star's Holdout Emerges

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. As training camp nears, the Washington Commanders still find themselves with off-field drama hanging over their heads. After opting not to partake in minicamp, wide receiver Terry McLaurin continues to hold out in search of a new contract. McLaurin is in the final year of his current deal and is eager to lock down a long-term commitment with the franchise. This comes on the heels of the veteran wide receiver having a career year. Paired with a new young dynamic quarterback Jayden Daniels, he tallied his fifth straight 1,000-yard season and racked up a career-high 13 touchdowns. Since this ordeal began, the Commanders have maintained a positive mindset that things will work themselves out before the season gets underway. However, most updates regarding the situation have not been encouraging. The latest discourse about McLaurin's holdout revealed he is still at odds with the front office as they continue to negotiate. Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter the Commanders 'have a couple of weeks here to make progress' before they risk seeing McLaurin's holdout continue into training camp." This update comes on the heels of one of the NFL's top insiders also having lackluster things to say about McLaurin's holdout. Last week ESPN's Adam Schefter was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss various topics across the league. While speaking about the Commanders' star, he cited that minimal progress has been made when it comes to him getting a new contract and rejoining the team. "There's no update which is the update. And that's the problem," Schefter said. "There really is quite a difference and a gap between what both sides would want. They have not made any progress." "There's no update on the Terry McLaurin situation and that's the problem.. There is quite a gap between what both sides want right now and they have not made any progress"@AdamSchefter #PMSLive — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) June 30, 2025 Also read: Raiders Cited as Possible Landing Spot For Commanders Star Amid Holdout For the Commanders, the clock is ticking to get a deal done. Fresh off reaching the NFC Championship game and making offseason upgrades, they're eager to contend right now. That said, the team isn't going to achieve its goals if this situation is still lingering in the background. McLaurin is a foundational piece to the franchise and a key component of the offense. Because of this, they'll need the star receiver committed and locked in if Washington is going to continue on its upward trajectory. BREAKING NEWS: "I will be taking my talents to the University of Oregon" ~ @immanueli24 #PMSLive The Oregon Ducks must have forgotten what day it was, setting off some recruiting fireworks on July 3 rather than July 4. Iheanacho takes over as the top-ranked OL commit in Oregon program history, and is the highest-rated player in the Ducks' 2026 class. Not long after that, the Ducks also added 4-star safety Devin Jackson, the No. 213 player in the 2026 class, and the No. 18 safety. With the pair of commitments, Oregon jumped into the top 10 of the national recruiting rankings and now has three 5-star players in the class, along with TE Kendre Harrison and S Jett Washington.
