City of Watertown makes changes to its flag policy
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Watertown City Council has reversed course on its flag policy that it adopted just under a year ago.
In a 3-2 vote in Monday night's meeting, the flags of any government recognized by the United States, commemorative and organizational flags can be displayed at any official city events or ceremonies. However, this has to be approved by the Watertown City Council.

In May 2024, the council voted to only allow the American, New York State, POW-MIA and Tree City USA flags to be flown on the flag poles outside of City Hall.
Council members Cliff Olney, Lisa Ruggerio and Robert Kimball voted in favor of the policy change.
Mayor Sarah Compo-Pierce and Ben Shoen were against the resolution.
