Marcos: PH secured $446M direct investments from India trip

Pabalate/ PPA Pool President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Friday that he would be bringing home US$446 million in direct investments from his five-day state visit in India. According to a tweet by GMA Integrated News' Saleema Refran, Marcos also estimated US$5.6 to US$5.7 billion worth of possible investments will follow after his trip. During the state visit, Marcos held several business meetings, including with the ISON Group wherein they focused on key sectors such as healthcare, BPO, renewable energy, and insurance. Marcos' visit to Bengaluru is the second leg of his five-day state visit to India. Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Evangeline Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq earlier said Bengaluru is India's Silicon Valley. It is the capital of Karnataka state in southern India. The President is set to have a series of business meetings there and a sit-down interview with the Philippine media. Pabalate/ PPA Pool) President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Wednesday wooed Indian business leaders to invest in the Philippines, saying that the country is committed to support current and prospective Indian investors. At a roundtable meeting in New Delhi, Marcos said the Philippines' ''investment environment is the most open and liberal that it has ever been.'' ''Our discussions today have demonstrated the strength of our strategic partnership, especially in trade and investment. They certainly show how far we have come and how much more we can achieve if we continue to work together in a spirit of cooperation and shared prosperity,'' Marcos said. ''The Philippines and India are natural economic partners. We are two of Asia's fastest-growing economies. We are powered by a youthful, skilled population. Moreover, we are both committed to building resilient, innovation-driven economies that deliver opportunities for our peoples,'' he added. Marcos said he directed the Department of Trade and Industry to work closely with their Indian counterparts to convene the joint working group on trade and investment at the earliest opportunity. ''And we have just again with the discussion we were having, is to decide, is that we will, not only are we going to organize a joint working group on trade and investment, but we will also probably granulate that down to industry specific working groups so that they you are—you're talking apples to apples, oranges to oranges,'' he said. ''And of course, the government will be there to take notes and to understand what is needed by both sides to make all of these things happen,'' Marcos added. He also tasked the DTI to lead Philippine efforts towards a Philippine-India Preferential Trade Agreement, which will lay a strong foundation for deeper, more predictable and mutually beneficial economic integration. — BM, GMA Integrated News

Marcos hopes defense, trade talks with Cambodia will 'move forward'

Marcos said this during his bilateral meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Malaysia. He emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in the defense sector to strengthen the strategic partnership and ensure regional peace and stability. 'I hope that we can move forward with those discussions in terms of trade, defense, and potential defense cooperation,' Marcos said. For his part, the Cambodian leader expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to him during his official visit to the Philippines in February 2025. He also urged other ASEAN member states to embrace emerging opportunities amid global trade disruptions, emphasizing the region's collective potential for resilience and growth. ''There are thousands of products where we can find complementarities,'' Hun Manet said. In February, Marcos and Hun Manet signed several agreements aimed at improving both countries' bilateral ties. These are the following: Agreement between the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia for the Elimination of Double Taxation with Respect to Taxes on Income and the Prevention of Tax Evasion and Avoidance;

PH has productive talks with Vietnam on comprehensive strategic partnership

(Mark Balmores/PPA Pool) KUALA LUMPUR - The Philippines and Vietnam had 'productive conversations' regarding a comprehensive strategic partnership, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. said Monday. Earlier in the day, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo disclosed that the Philippines is eyeing to elevate its strategic partnership with Vietnam. In a bilateral meeting between Marcos and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, they reaffirmed their commitment to develop the two countries' diplomatic relations. 'Our ministers are in discussion on the possibility of elevating the strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership. I believe there are already productive conversations between our two countries,' the President said. For his part, the Vietnamese leader acknowledged the 'remarkable progress' in bilateral relations since Marcos' state visit to Vietnam in January 2024. 'I hope that it has come to the point where we can elevate the strategic partnership between our two countries,' the Vietnamese Prime Minister said. Further, the two leaders recognized the need to expand economic and trade cooperation between the two nations. They also aim to strengthen collaboration in agriculture and food security and enhanced people-to-people exchanges in education, tourism, and cultural engagement. This year, the Philippines and Vietnam commemorate the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership, marking a decade of strengthened cooperation and enduring friendship between the two nations.
