PSEB junior assistant's promotion cancelled for tampering with office records
1 2 Mohali: The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has cancelled the promotion of a junior assistant after he was found guilty of tampering with official records. The action was taken following a departmental inquiry into the unauthorised transfer of photographs on the certificates linked to roll numbers 1019128823 and 1019128782 in the computer cell, which amounted to gross negligence, cheating, and violation of official conduct rules. Board chairman Dr Amarpal Singh confirmed that Vishal Nayyar, junior assistant in the examination branch (Class X registration branch) was held responsible for the misconduct. His annual promotion has been cancelled with immediate effect, and he has been placed under suspension, he said. "The board has zero tolerance for corruption, negligence, or any action that compromises its integrity," said Dr Singh. "Vigilant board employees noticed the irregularities in time and brought the matter to the attention. The issuance of the alleged certificates was stopped before any damage could be done." The inquiry report also held Manjinder Singh, Helper, and Jugraj Khan, a daily wager, responsible for supporting the wrongdoing. Separate disciplinary action has been taken against them. Jugraj Khan's services have been terminated due to his involvement in the case. The inquiry also noted supervisory negligence on the part of senior officials in the computer department. Gurtej Singh, deputy director (computer), now serving as deputy secretary, and Navneet Kaur, director (computer), were both reprimanded for failing to act promptly and were instructed to exercise greater vigilance in the future. No charges were proved against them and were also given clean chit by the enquiry officer.

Mohali: In a remarkable display of academic excellence, the girls have once again outperformed boys in the Class X exam results announced by the (PSEB) on Friday. All top three positions on the merit list were secured by the girls, each achieving a perfect score of 650 out of 650 marks. It is particularly heartening to see young girls leading the merit list with such outstanding performances." , a student of Govt High School, Kotsukhia, in Faridkot district topped the merit list, followed by Ratinderdeep Kaur of Chatteyana School in Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Arshdeep Kaur from Chouda village in Malerkotla district. Although all three students secured full marks, the board awarded ranks based on their date of birth in accordance with the existing guidelines. Of the 300 students listed on the merit list, 256 are girls, highlighting their continued academic dominance. The overall pass percentage this year stands at 95.61%. Girls recorded a higher pass percentage of 96.85%, compared to 94.50% for boys. In terms of regional performance, rural students outshone their urban counterparts, recording a pass rate of 96.09% as against 94.71% in the urban areas. Among school categories, private schools posted a marginally higher pass percentage of 96.96%, while govt schools recorded a pass rate of 95.47%. At the district level, Amritsar led with the highest pass percentage of 98.54%, while Ludhiana ranked lowest at 91.62%. PSEB chairperson Amarpal Singh also noted that the Class X examinations for both regular and open school students were conducted from March 10 to April 5. Adequate intervals were provided between subjects to ensure student preparedness, he said. The board had developed a comprehensive standard operating procedure (SOP) to facilitate smooth conduct of the exams, shared with all relevant stakeholders. Important guidelines and clarifications were effectively communicated to ensure transparency and coordination, the chairperson added.
