Glen Oaks Community College's Phi Theta Kappa Chapter achieves multiple honors
CENTREVILLE — The Glen Oaks Community College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa has achieved 5-Star Chapter status for 2024, the highest level of recognition awarded by the international honor society, according to a community announcement.
This distinction reflects the chapter's commitment to academic excellence, leadership and service.
In addition to earning the 5-Star designation, Glen Oaks has also been recognized as a Reach Chapter, an honor given to chapters that excel in membership development. This recognition highlights the college's dedication to fostering student success and expanding opportunities for eligible students to join PTK.
Adding to the celebration, Anne Springsteen, director of TRIO Student Support Services at Glen Oaks, has been named a Distinguished College Administrator by PTK. The award honors college leaders who have demonstrated exceptional support for PTK, ensuring student members have the resources and encouragement needed to thrive.
Springsteen's unwavering dedication to PTK, particularly through the TRIO program, has played a pivotal role in supporting student success at Glen Oaks. She will be honored on stage during PTK Catalyst 2025, the society's international convention, held April 3-5 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Further recognition comes for Sarah Henry, director of Admissions at Glen Oaks, who has been inducted into Phi Theta Kappa's Alumni Hall of Honor. This award is presented annually to one distinguished PTK alum from each of the society's 28 regions.
To receive this honor, alumni must be members for at least three years from their home chapter and remain actively involved at the chapter, regional or international level. Henry's contributions to PTK include her service as Michigan's associate regional coordinator and her recent term as vice president of Division 3 for the Alumni Advisory Board through PTK Headquarters. She will be formally recognized during the PTK Catalyst Opening Ceremony and the Alumni Banquet.
The success of Glen Oaks' PTK chapter is made possible through the guidance and leadership of PTK advisors Henry and Ben Fries, director of Advising & VA Academic Advisor. Their mentorship and dedication to PTK members have played an essential role in the chapter's achievements and continued growth.
'We are incredibly proud of our students for achieving these honors and grateful for the outstanding support from Anne, Sarah and Ben,' said Tonya Howden, vice president of Student Services. 'These recognitions are a testament to the hard work, passion and commitment of our Phi Theta Kappa members and advisors.'
