Cowboys' Trevon Diggs Facing Financial Loss After Absence

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for the next phase of OTAs, star cornerback Trevon Diggs has an important decision to make in the coming weeks. The injured cornerback could be looking at a financial loss if he chooses to stay away from the team during the mandatory portion of minicamp. While that rule would be applied to any player who misses the action, hence the keyword being "mandatory," Diggs' lack of presence at the first two phases of minicamp raised a red flag on a clause attached to his deal with the Cowboys. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, Diggs' contract states he would need to take part in at least 84 percent of offseason programs in some capacity in order to avoid triggering a financial loss. Lately, Diggs has been in Miami, Florida, rehabbing his surgically repaired left knee. Choosing to do the rehab in Dallas would've helped Diggs avoid this type of situation. The good news is that the Cowboys are far from concerned about the situation. When Dallas' head coach Brian Schottenheimer spoke on the situation, he suggested that "all signs are positive" regarding Diggs. Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones echoed a similar sentiment, noting that Diggs is "getting the work done" in his rehab. For the time being, the Cowboys' organization believes that Diggs will be in attendance for the minicamp when it takes place, beginning on June 10, and wrapping up on the 12th of the month. Last season, Diggs appeared in the first 10 matchups of the season for the Cowboys. After the team's Week 10 loss against the Houston Texans, Diggs went inactive for two weeks in a row. He would return during Week 14 to take on the Bengals. After a five-tackle effort, Diggs was sidelined for the remainder of the season. He missed four games in a row due to a knee injury. According to ESPN, Diggs is "likely" to start training camp on the PUP list. Right now, his first four weeks of the 2025 NFL season are in danger. If Diggs can't get off the list by the start of the season, he would automatically have to sit out for four games. The Cowboys aren't jumping the gun just yet. Until they are able to see Diggs and the status of his recovery in person, there won't be any decisions made regarding his status for training camp. Dallas has not revealed the official start date of training camp, but Diggs should have a better idea of his status for the practices by late July, when everything begins.

Matt LaFleur: Christian Watson ahead of schedule in ACL recovery

Packers wide receiver Christian Watson gave a positive update on his recovery from a torn ACL in early May and his head coach did the same as the month wound down. Watson opened Wednesday's OTA practice on the field while the team was stretching before moving over to the rehab field. Matt LaFleur did not say when Watson, who was injured in Week 18, might be ready for a fuller workload, but he did say he thinks it could be sooner than originally expected. Advertisement 'Christian is doing outstanding,' LaFleur said, via Ryan Wood of 'I would say he's ahead of schedule, but I'm not a doctor. I'm not medical staff. So we'll see where he's at.' A stint on the PUP list to open training camp seems likely for Watson and remaining on the list into the regular season would keep him out for at least four games, but there will be more updates on Watson's condition from Green Bay before any decision like that needs to be made.

PUP offers free college courses in open university program

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) has made it easier for those wishing to obtain a college education. In her report on '24 Oras Weekend', Bernadette Reyes said the PUP Open University System offers free tuition and flexible time. 'Kabilang ang PUP Open University System doon sa free tuition na nasa batas natin. Hindi ito yung traditional system na papasok ka araw-araw. Actually meron tayong combination ng synchronous and asynchronous,' said Dr. Rudolf Lacerna, the executive director of the PUP Open University System. (The PUP Open University System is among those offering free tuition that is provided by law. It differs from the traditional system where you need to have to attend daily classes. Actually we have a combination of synchronous and asynchronous classes.) Starting from two courses, the system has since expanded to at least 10 undergraduate programs where applicants can sign up. For example under Business Administration, applicants can choose courses such as Marketing Management, Office Administration and Tourism Management. Among Communication courses, one can select from Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations. There are Engineering and Information Technology programs being offered as well. Aside from working parents who wish to continue or finish their post-high school education, the Open University also welcomes Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Persons Deprived of Liberty and survivors of serious illnesses. There is also no age limitation. Lacerna said applicants only need to pass the entrance examination and submit a number of requirements such as a birth certificate, credentials from the high school where they studied that coincides with the curriculum when they were enrolled. —RF, GMA Integrated News

More Police Funding To Improve Public Safety

Press Release – New Zealand Government Minister of Police The Government is investing more in core police services to continue its good progress in restoring law and order and improving the safety of all New Zealanders, Police Minister Mark Mitchell says. 'This year's Budget package continues to support Police's frontline to deliver the policing services our communities need. Our frontline officers do an outstanding job, and this funding will help make sure they can continue doing that. 'We are investing $480 million over four years to support the Police frontline. Much of this remedies an under-funded increase to Police numbers inherited from the previous Government. It funded the salaries of 1800 extra Police, but not the associated infrastructure, equipment and other costs,' Mr Mitchell says. 'There is also new funding of $60 million over four years for the Police Prosecutions Uplift Programme (PUP), and funding to update the out-dated Police payroll, human resources, and workforce management systems. 'PUP is a programme of targeted interventions, including improving prosecutions to support court efficiencies and more timely case resolutions. It has the added benefit of freeing up frontline Police from administrative overhead. 'The programme started in July 2023 in Auckland, and its success there means it will now be rolled out nationally. 'Upgrading the Enterprise Resource Management technology will enable a modern, reliable system that ensures Police's 10,000-plus staff get paid on time and deliver improved rostering and scheduling data to better inform frontline deployment decisions. 'We're supporting Police to crack down on crime and ensure there are real consequences for offenders. 'We've brought in new laws to go after gangs, we're tackling youth offending and retail crime, and we funded beat teams to get more officers back on the beat as part of delivering 500 new officers. 'We're demonstrating our commitment to 20,000 fewer victims of violent crime and cutting youth offending by 15 per cent across our Government's term. We want Kiwis to be safer at home and in their communities. We recognise there is more work to do, and this Budget contributes to that.'
