I will strive to make BJP a force to reckon with in Andhra Pradesh, vows BJP president Madhav

VIJAYAWADA: In a grand and festive gathering at SS Convention Centre in Vijayawada on Tuesday, former MLC and State general secretary PVN Madhav was officially declared the new State president of Bharatiya Janata Party. The announcement was made by Karnataka MP and BJP National Council member PC Mohan, who acted as the election observer. Lauding the party's democratic tradition, Mohan said, 'Whether it is the national or State president, the BJP follows a transparent and participatory election process. Unlike the Congress, where leadership is imposed, we value the voice of our leaders and cadre.' Outgoing State president Daggubati Purandeswari congratulated Madhav, and ceremoniously handed over the responsibility. 'Madhav's father Chalapathi Rao stood firm for the party during tough times, even facing jail during the Emergency. Now, Madhav continues that legacy with commitment,' she said. Union Minister Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma hailed the leadership transition, and emphasised Madhav's grassroots connection. 'He is the son of a true BJP stalwart, and has grown on his merit. He must now focus on empowering the cadre, and preparing for the local body polls,' Varma said. MLA Sujana Chowdary said, 'Madhav grew up observing the BJP's principles. With Purandeswari's foundation, and now under Madhav's leadership, we aim to push the party to the forefront by 2029.' MLC Somu Veerraju said, 'There is no dynastic politics in the BJP. Madhav has proven himself as a capable leader, following in his father's footsteps. His independent voice will strengthen the party.' Rajya Sabha MP R Krishnaiah urged the cadre to spread the BJP's ideology under Madhav's guidance. MP CM Ramesh stressed that BJP workers deserve fair representation in alliance decisions, and expressed confidence in Madhav's ability to raise such issues. As the newly elected State president, Madhav reflected emotionally on his lifelong association with the BJP. 'Our family is intertwined with the BJP. I was born during the Emergency, I have seen the struggle firsthand. This is not just a position, it's a responsibility to make the BJP an unstoppable force in Andhra Pradesh,' Madhav said.

Sangh Roots, Regional Pull: Why BJP Chose PVN Madhav As New Andhra Unit Chief

Last Updated: PVN Madhav succeeds D Purandeshwari -- a prominent figure from the renowned NTR family -- and his elevation marks a shift as it follows the BJP's improvement in the 2024 elections The appointment of PVN Madhav as the new Andhra Pradesh BJP president has not surprised many within the state unit. His selection reflects the party's strategic considerations and its growing confidence in a state where the BJP has historically had limited influence. Madhav is a candidate who meets multiple criteria — organisational loyalty, Sangh roots, regional representation, and community appeal. The BJP, as it continues to build its base in the largely unexplored political terrain of southern India, has recognised the need for this kind of a leadership in Andhra Pradesh. Madhav succeeds D Purandeshwari — a prominent figure from the renowned NTR family — and his elevation marks a significant shift as it follows the BJP's improvement in the 2024 assembly elections. From a vote share of less than 1 per cent in 2019 — lower than NOTA –the party has made tangible gains in both assembly and Lok Sabha segments. This decision aligns with a discernible trend in post-bifurcation Andhra politics. Over the past decade, the party has appointed four state presidents—two from the Kamma community and two from the Kapu community; two with strong RSS backgrounds and two who previously belonged to the Congress. Madhav, a member of the BC community and a long-time Sangh affiliate, fits the BJP's current requirements both socially and ideologically. A cost accountant by profession, PVN Madhav has deep roots in the Sangh Parivar, having been active in the ABVP and BJYM since his early years. The son of BJP veteran and former MLC P.V. Chalapathi Rao, Madhav also served as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from the North Andhra Graduates' Constituency during the previous NDA government led by the TDP. He currently holds the position of State General Secretary in the party. In Andhra's caste-driven political landscape—dominated by the Kammas in the TDP and the Kapus in Jana Sena—the BJP sees an opportunity to tap into the significant BC vote bank, where Madhav could prove to be an effective mobiliser. The central leadership's selection process has been particularly meticulous, especially with the election of a new national president on the horizon—overdue for nearly two and a half years. Feedback from the grassroots in Andhra Pradesh has indicated a strong preference for leaders with ideological commitment to the BJP-RSS ecosystem, rather than those who switch sides around election time. Unlike neighbouring Telangana—where the BJP has had a longer presence and a wider pool of contenders—Andhra Pradesh offered relatively limited options for leadership selection. Over the years, several leaders within the BJP in Andhra have migrated from the TDP, while many of the original BJP loyalists have either taken on key roles within the state or been accommodated at the Centre. For instance, Satya Kumar currently serves as the state's Health Minister, while Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma has been inducted into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Union Cabinet. The recent Lok Sabha polls validated BJP's emerging foothold, with the party winning all three seats it contested. In the Assembly polls, BJP secured 8 out of the 10 seats it contested—an impressive feat given that its ally, the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP, won 135 of the 144 seats it fought. As the BJP prepares for future electoral battles, both in the state and at the national level, PVN Madhav's appointment signals a calculated, ideology-driven push to deepen the party's roots in Andhra Pradesh. Caste dynamics at Andhra Pradesh BJP president election

VIJAYAWADA: There are high chances of choosing a new face for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president on June 30, though the elections are set to take place on July 1. Although the party is conducting the elections to follow internal democracy, BJP leaders are known for their discipline in adhering to the party line, and may unanimously elect the new president. Potential candidates include BC leader PVN Madhav from Uttarandhra, Adoni MLA PV Parthasarathi from Rayalaseema, and Vishnuvardhan Reddy, all of whom have strong ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and are expected to file their nominations in Vijayawada on Monday. The BJP's internal dynamics suggest a preference for leaders with long-standing service to the party. The BJP leadership is reportedly planning to allow a Backward Class (BC) leader to lead as the State president. This decision comes after a pattern of appointments following the State's bifurcation, where four presidents were appointed - two from the Kamma caste, and two from the Kapu community, with two having RSS background, and two being former Congress leaders. The BJP's internal sentiment suggests a preference for promoting leaders who have long been dedicated to the party's service.

Service, good governance, welfare – pillars of Modi govt

Nellore: BJP State vice-president PVN Madhav said that service, good governance and welfare are the pillars of the BJP-led NDA government. Addressing a press conference at party district office here on Thursday, he said that India has been emerging as the most powerful on these three principles under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that as many as 81 crore people in the entire country have been securing rice under Public Distribution System (PDS), while Rs 44 lakh crores are being credited into the accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), showing transparency of the NDA government. Analysing the Central government sponsored schemes such as PM Kisan, PM Awas, Matruvandanam, Sukanya Samrudhi, Mudra loans etc are reasoned for the eradication of poverty and uplifting the living standards of farmers and providing socio and economic empowerment to women. The former MLC said that nation's integrity is strengthened after abolishing 370 Article with the initiation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
