Grand finale of SPIC MACAY's Kathak dance fest today

Nagpur: The Nagpur chapter of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) brought alive the spirit of World Dance Day with its three-day Kathak Dance Festival , which began on April 27 and will continue until April 29. The festival, organised to promote the rich heritage of Indian classical dance among the youth, features some of the country's finest Kathak artistes. The inaugural event held at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines, witnessed an electrifying performance by eminent Kathak maestro Guru Pt Rajendra Gangani, son and disciple of Guru Pt Kundanlal Gangani. Beginning the evening with a powerful 'Stuti' dedicated to Lord Shiva, Pt Gangani set a devotional tone, invoking Lord Nataraja. Accompanied by Ravi Prakash on Padhant, Pt Fateh Singh Gangani on tabla, Vinod Kumar on vocals, and Shirish Bhalerao on violin, the performance was a true celebration of Kathak's vibrancy and depth. Many budding Kathak artists and students from the city attended the event, observing with reverence the finesse, footwork, and expressive subtleties of the senior artist. On April 28, acclaimed Kathak dancer Monisa Nayak , a disciple of Pt Rajendra Gangani and a recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, continued the festival's momentum with her performances at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Wathoda.
