Close ties among multiracial people invaluable asset

KUANTAN: The close ties between people of various races and religions in Malaysia are an invaluable asset, symbolising not only independence but also the nation's peace and prosperity, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. He urged all parties to avoid division, which would only bring harm, and to ensure differences of opinion do not sever bonds of friendship or fuel hostility. 'This national spirit calls for us to continue safeguarding the racial harmony we have built over the years,' he said. 'We must firmly reject the perception game, slander and accusations deliberately spread to divide the people.' Wan Rosdy warned that such actions would erode trust, cause disunity, and undermine the stability of the state and country. He made these remarks in his winding-up speech at the Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang. Wan Rosdy also called for embracing independence with tolerance, mutual understanding, and determination to build a brighter future together. 'I call on all assembly members and the people of Pahang to liberate themselves not only from physical colonisation but also from the shackles of hatred, suspicion and division,' he said. Meanwhile, speaking to reporters after the sitting, Wan Rosdy described the Pahang supplementary budget approved today as one of the lowest since 2022. He said the RM141 million supplementary budget covered seven items, including salary increases for civil servants and pension payments for retirees. 'This is mandatory and cannot be avoided,' he said. 'The state government must make this payment.' He added that a supplementary budget is a normal process to address unforeseen matters. - Bernama

Pahang tahfiz schools receive RM3.5m boost for infrastructure upgrades

KUANTAN: The Pahang State Legislative Assembly heard today about joint efforts between state and federal authorities to upgrade infrastructure at private tahfiz schools. Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad revealed the federal government disbursed RM3.5 million last year to 31 institutions for facility improvements. The state government complemented this through its Makmur Pahang initiative by granting RM2,000 annually to each school since 2022. Syed Ibrahim addressed queries from Lantikan Assemblyman Haris Salleh Hamzah about registered tahfiz institutions and their development plans. Official records show 136 private tahfiz schools currently operate with valid registration across Pahang. Another 56 institutions await approval from the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council for operational clearance. The state also oversees 37 government-run tahfiz kindergartens employing 157 educators for 1,180 pupils statewide. Annual operational funding for these institutions totals RM7.4 million from state coffers. Financial aid includes RM250 per student for B40 families, amounting to RM2.52 million in targeted assistance. - Bernama

Close Ties Among Multiracial People Invaluable Asset

KUANTAN, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The close ties between people of various races and religions in the country are an invaluable asset, symbolising not only independence but also the nation's peace and prosperity, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. He therefore urged all parties to avoid division, which would only bring harm, and to ensure that differences of opinion do not sever bonds of friendship or fuel hostility among the people. 'This national spirit calls for us to continue safeguarding the racial harmony we have built over the years. We must firmly reject the perception game, slander and accusations deliberately spread to divide the people. 'This matter will not only erode trust among us but also cause disunity, spark hostility and undermine the stability of the state and the country,' he said in his winding-up speech at the Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today. Wan Rosdy also urged all parties to embrace independence with the spirit of tolerance, mutual understanding and the determination to build a brighter future together. 'I call on all assembly members and the people of Pahang to liberate themselves not only from physical colonisation but also from the shackles of hatred, suspicion and division,' he said. Pahang rep turns to AI for ECRL ticket fares insights

KUANTAN: An appointed assemblyman surprised his colleagues at the Pahang State Legislative Assembly today when he 'disclosed' an estimated fare structure for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), which is expected to be fully operational by January 2027. Datuk Wong Tat Chee said that a one-way economy class ticket from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur is estimated at RM35, from Kuantan to Kota Baru at around RM45, and RM60 for passengers travelling from Kota Baru to Kuala Lumpur. The Temerloh MCA division chief drew smiles from those present when he shared that he had used the popular artificial intelligence (AI) tool – ChatGPT – to simulate the fares through a series of hypothetical travel scenarios. "The whole country is eagerly awaiting the launch of this historic mega-rail project, but the question of ticket pricing remains unanswered. "I have watched several promotional videos highlighting the ECRL's sleek cabins and passenger convenience, but there was no mention of ticket prices. So, I used ChatGPT to estimate fares, taking into consideration the socioeconomic background and average income of East Coast residents. "The simulation suggested ticket prices at around 10 sen per kilometre. ChatGPT also recommended discounted fares for persons with disabilities, students, and senior citizens," he said during the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, at the state assembly sitting held at Wisma Sri Pahang today. Speaking earnestly, Wong suggested that the Pahang government could consider the AI-generated fare estimates and raise the matter with the Transport Ministry and the concessionaire company. The ECRL, a 665-kilometre railway connecting Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Selangor, has reached 81 per cent overall completion. The government had previously assured that the prices for ECRL train tickets would be affordable and people-friendly. Last year, Wong stunned the Pahang State Legislative Assembly when he proposed establishing the largest safari park in Southeast Asia in Temerloh, covering about 202 hectares.

Pahang urged to form panel to tackle land encroachment

KUANTAN: A state assemblyman has urged the Pahang government to form a special committee to examine and address the issue of land encroachment in the state. Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (PH-Tras) said the committee could comprise various parties, including former officers of the Land and Mines Office, land experts from higher education institutions, police, lawyers and religious scholars. He said the committee should be given three months to submit a proposed action plan for implementation by the state government. 'A special committee should be formed to review this issue and propose fair and win-win solutions. Encroachment must be stopped, and encroached land must not be left unattended for too long, as this can lead to theft of harvestable crops for sale,' he said. He was speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks on the royal address by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in the Pahang State Legislative Assembly today. Earlier, the Sultan of Pahang decreed that the ongoing issue of land encroachment in the state must be resolved, noting that 14,494.9 hectares of state land have been encroached and illegally cultivated with oil palm, rubber, durian and other crops. In addition, His Royal Highness said that 5,997.09 hectares of Permanent Forest Reserves (HSK) have also been encroached under the guise of agriculture, which in reality is an open theft of state property. Shahril Azman Abd Halim (PN-Jengka) supported the state government's firm action in addressing the issue by taking encroachers to court instead of issuing compounds. Separately, Chan Chun Kuang (PH-Semambu) urged the state government to consider enacting specific legislation to protect the people of Pahang from online fraud. He said the state government must take a proactive role in safeguarding its citizens against digital threats. The sitting will resume tomorrow.
