‘Playing with Pakistan sends wrong message': Himachal Congress MLA Malender Rajan urges Indian cricket team to withdraw from Asia Cup
Himachal Pradesh Congress MLA Malender Rajan Wednesday demanded that the state Assembly pass a resolution urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to withdraw from the upcoming men's Asia Cup, citing Pakistan's participation. Raising the matter during Zero Hour in the Assembly, Rajan, the MLA from Indora constituency in Kangra district, said he recently learned that the BCCI has permitted the Indian cricket team to take part in the Asia Cup, where Pakistan is also a participant. 'The Government of India should have intervened in the matter, given the country's strained relations with Pakistan, which has been involved in terror attacks on Indian soil and recent border skirmishes,' he said. 'The decision of the BCCI to allow participation in a tournament alongside Pakistan is highly objectionable, considering Pakistan's track record. The Assembly should pass a resolution urging the BCCI and the Union government to cancel this permission,' Rajan added. He said allowing the Indian team to play in a tournament with Pakistan sends the wrong message at a time when relations remain bitter between the two nations. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said the matter will be sent to the government. Later, interacting with the media, referring to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Rajan said, 'I raised this point in the interest of the country. It is about the sentiments of our people who lost their kin in Pakistani-sponsored terrorist attacks.' The Asia Cup, organised by the Asian Cricket Council, will be held from September 9 to 28 in the T20 format in the United Arab Emirates. India are set to play against Pakistan on September 14. The other teams in the fray are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong. The India-Pakistan diplomatic tension has already seen Pakistan's withdrawal from the Hockey Asia Cup to be held in Bihar from August 29 to September 7. Bangladesh will replace Pakistan in the tournament.

Saudi Arabia firm on terrorism, condemns cross-border attacks: Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla
Riyadh [Saudi Arabia], May 29 (ANI): Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, part of the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, said Saudi Arabia has taken a strong and clear stand against terrorism and terror financing. Shringla highlighted that both countries issued a strong joint statement condemning cross-border terrorism and the Pakistan-sponsored attack in Pahalgam. Speaking to ANI on Wednesday (local time), Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, '...Saudi Arabia made it clear that their stand on terrorism will be very, very firm... They also believe that there should be very close scrutiny of terror financing. They reiterated the joint statement that was issued when Prime Minister Modi visited Saudi Arabia on 22nd of April, this is also something that is noteworthy that when our Prime Minister was a guest in Saudi Arabia, the Pakistani-sponsored terrorists decided to undertake their very, very ghastly operation in Pahalgam. The joint statement is a very strong one and it refers not only to the condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam but also to cross-border terrorism for the first time...' In addition, Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma, who is part of the same all-party delegation, said India has taken a united stand against terrorism and will not engage in dialogue with Pakistan until it dismantles its terror camps. Sharma added that India and Saudi Arabia share strong bilateral ties rooted in development and mutual respect, with the local community recognising India as a peace-loving nation. 'We jointly talked about India standing against terrorism and India will not talk to Pakistan other than if they finish their terrorist camps... We have brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia, and together we want to march for development, and that's what their people are also saying. They're talking about development. They know that India is a peace-loving nation and they will not create any problems for others. That's why our people in this country are also welcome,' Sharma told ANI. The delegation, led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, also includes Nishikant Dubey MP, BJP; Phangnon Konyak, MP, BJP; Rekha Sharma MP, NJP; AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi; Satnam Singh Sandhu MP; Ghulam Nabi Azad; and Ambassador Harsh Shringla. The multi-party delegation, consisting of seven groups led by one MP each, has been initiated to counter global misinformation and highlight India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. (ANI)

'Victims Of Pak Terrorism Predominantly Civilians': Indian Envoy At UN
New York: India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, strongly criticized Pakistan's actions at the UN Security Council Open Debate on Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict. While responding to "baseless" allegations made by Pakistan's representative on a number of issues, he affirmed that India has experienced decades of Pakistani-sponsored terrorist attacks across its borders, making it hypocritical for Pakistan to participate in discussions on protecting civilians. "First, India has experienced decades of Pakistani-sponsored terrorist attacks across our borders. This has ranged from the horrific 26-11 attack on the city of Mumbai to the barbaric mass murder of innocent tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025. The victims of Pakistani terrorism have been predominantly civilians, since its objective has been to attack our prosperity, our progress and our morale," he said. "For such a nation to even participate in a discussion on the protection of civilians is an affront to the international community," he added. Parvathaneni Harish criticized Pakistan's actions, saying, "Pakistan has repeatedly used a civilian cover to advance the cause of terrorism. Sindoor. A nation that makes no distinction between terrorists and civilians has no credentials to speak about protecting civilians." He mentioned a recent incident where Pakistani forces deliberately shelled Indian border villages, resulting in civilian casualties. He stated, "Earlier this month, the Pakistani army deliberately shelled our border villages, killing more than 20 civilians and injuring more than 80." "There was intentional targeting of places of worship, including gurudwaras, temples and convents, as well as medical facilities. To preach at this body after such behaviour is grossly hypocritical," he added. The ambassador emphasized the need for international cooperation to combat terrorism and said that "international community must come together on zero tolerance for terrorism and calling out those who sponsor and defend it." Highlighting the importance of collective action, Harish stated that, "my delegation reaffirms its commitment to working in close cooperation with the international community to alleviate the suffering of civilians affected by armed conflict." On May 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'OPERATION SINDOOR', hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered.
