Henderson Fire: 300-acre wildfire burns near Pala Casino
Updates: This story has been updated with new information. Crews continued efforts on Saturday to build containment lines around a 300-acre wildfire near the Pala Casino that prompted evacuation orders in some neighborhoods. The Henderson Fire started for unknown reasons shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday off Henderson Road, north of state Route 76 and east of Interstate 15, according to Cal Fire. The blaze was 15% contained as of Saturday morning. Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said evacuation orders are still in place. 'We've ordered additional aircraft this morning,' he said Saturday, adding the pilots have been helped by improved visibility. There were no reports of structure damage or injuries. The northwest-spreading fire grew to 30 acres by 6:59 p.m. Friday as ground crews and personnel aboard air tankers and water-dropping helicopters worked to subdue the blaze, the state agency reported. The fire grew to 200 acres by 9:57 p.m. Friday, and to 300 acres by Saturday morning, according to Cal Fire. 'Firefighters were able to make progress (overnight) as fire behavior was minimal,' according to a Cal Fire statement Saturday morning. 'A substantial number of extra firefighters and equipment have been requested for (Saturday), as there will be work to fully contain the fire.' An evacuation order was issued for nearby areas, with a temporary evacuation point set up at the Pala Casino parking lot. The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a wildfire smoke advisory for some areas of western Riverside County on Saturday due to the fire. The advisory was effective until 8 a.m. Sunday in the areas of Murrieta, Temecula, Sage, Aguanga and Anza. The South Coast AQMD said the smoke will most heavily impact areas near and to the northeast of the fire. Particle pollution levels were expected to reach the 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' air quality index category in the affected areas. If the fire remains active, the South Coast AQMD said the particle pollution levels could reach the 'unhealthy' air quality index category by Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Conditions may change quickly, depending on fire activity and weather, the South Coast AQMD announced. This is a developing story and will be updated. 2025 Motocross Hangtown 250 Quals: Haiden Deegan sweeps sessions
Haiden Deegan swept the two qualification sessions for the 250 class and topped the field by half a second. "It will be hot; everybody's got to deal with it, but I'm pretty fit, so I'm not too worried about it," Deegan told Peacock's Jason Thomas. "I usually don't care to pop off in qualifying like this, but I had to this week after a rider shooed me off [the top spot]. We had to send it today." Advertisement Deegan was referencing qualification in Pala, California, when Chance Hymas nipped him on the final lap of the second session. Hymas settled for second in Round 2, but that was only half the story. While the track had appreciably slowed for the second session, Hymas would have preferred to finish ahead of his rival. Other than pride, there was nothing to gain. Nevertheless, Deegan rode a wide line around the track following a red flag for a three-rider crash. Hymas was forced to follow. Ty Masterpool was third on the chart with a time of 1:57.398, which was .897 seconds slower than Deegan. Fourth-place Garrett Marchbanks (1:57.428) and Casey Cochran (1:57.479) rounded out the top five. Advertisement The second qualification session was marred by a red flag involving Hunter Yoder and Trevor Colip. Yoder put his Honda on the dirt at the top of a hill and Colip was unable to avoid the fallen bike. Colip was carted off by the Alpinestars Medical crew for evaluation. 2025 Motocross Fox Raceway 450 Moto 2: Jett Lawrence enters second race undefeated
PALA, California: Jett Lawrence answered any lingering question about his health in the first Fox Raceway Nationals moto and set his sight on remaining perfect. In-Race Notes Hunter Lawrence earned the holeshot with Jett on his back wheel. Advertisement Jett did not allow Hunter to lead the lad; he took the top spot and brought Aaron Plessinger with him. Plessinger slipped with Hunter going back around for second and Eli Tomac taking third. The top three riders failed to finish the the 2025 Supercross season with injury. Tomac took second from Hunter on the second lap and set his sight on Jett. No one other than Jett has led a lap since 2022. The last rider to do so was Tomac.
