Israeli military strikes kill at least 41 in Gaza, many near an aid site, medics say
Israeli gunfire and air strikes killed at least 41 Palestinians in Gaza on Wednesday, most of them at an aid site operated by the U.S-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in the centre of the coastal territory, local health officials said. Medical officials at Shifa and Al-Quds Hospitals said at least 25 people were killed as they approached the aid site near the former settlement of Netzarim, and dozens were wounded. The Israeli military said its forces fired warning shots overnight toward suspects who were advancing while posing a threat to the troops in the area of the Netzarim Corridor. 'This is despite warnings that the area is an active combat zone. The IDF is aware of reports regarding individuals injured; the details are under review,' it added. Explainer: What is the new U.S.-backed Gaza aid plan and why doesn't the UN like it? Later on Wednesday, health officials at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip said at least six people were killed by Israeli gunfire as they approached another GHF site in Rafah further south, taking Wednesday's death toll to at least 41. A total of 163 people had already been killed and more than 1,000 wounded trying to reach the handful of aid sites operated by the foundation since it began work two weeks ago after a three-month blockade, according to Gaza's health ministry. The United Nations has condemned the killings. It said the blockade brought the Palestinian enclave to the brink of famine and that food supplies remain critically low. The foundation said earlier it was unaware of Wednesday's incident but that it is working closely with Israeli authorities to ensure safe passage routes are maintained, and that it is essential for Palestinians to closely follow instructions. 'Ultimately, the solution is more aid, which will create more certainty and less urgency among the population,' it said by e-mail in response to Reuters questions. Anand insists Canada is mulling options with allies for ceasefire in Gaza and more aid 'There is not yet enough food to feed everyone in need in Gaza. Our current focus is to feed as many people as is safely possible within the constraints of a highly volatile environment.' The UN and other aid groups have refused to supply aid via the foundation, which uses private contractors with Israeli military backup in what they say is a breach of humanitarian standards. Gaza health officials said 10 other people were killed in an Israeli air strike in Khan Younis in the south of the enclave. On Tuesday, when Gaza health officials said 17 people were killed near another GHF aid site in Rafah in southern Gaza, the army said it fired warning shots to distance 'suspects' who were approaching the troops and posed a threat. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday there had been 'significant progress' in efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza, but that it was 'too soon' to raise hopes that a deal would be reached. Despite efforts by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar to restore a ceasefire in Gaza, neither Israel nor Hamas has shown willingness to back down on core demands, with each side blaming the other for the failure to reach a deal. Two Hamas sources told Reuters they did not know about any new ceasefire offers.

Israeli strikes kill over 115 Palestinians since morning amid Trump visit to region
ALBAWABA- Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip killed at least 115 Palestinians on Thursday, in one of the deadliest single-day escalations in weeks, according to health officials and emergency responders. The bombardment coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to the region, as ceasefire talks remain stalled. In Khan Younis, southern Gaza, 56 people, including women and children, were killed overnight when Israeli forces bombed homes and tents sheltering displaced families, according to staff at Nasser Hospital. Among the victims were 36 children, local doctors said, with entire families reportedly wiped out in the strikes. The Israeli army said its operations targeted Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters, claiming the attacks were part of preparations for an expanded ground offensive. Elsewhere, the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency reported more casualties in the northern town of Jabalia, where a health clinic and a prayer hall in the refugee camp were bombed. Thirteen people were confirmed dead there. Thursday morning, the streets of Khan Younis were filled with funeral processions. A resident described the scene at Nasser hospital to BBC Arabic as 'unbearable,' saying the morgue was overflowing and bodies were placed in corridors. Doctors, overwhelmed by the influx of casualties with severe injuries, were treating patients on the floor due to a shortage of beds. "Tragically, this level of destruction has become part of daily life," the man said, lamenting the continued civilian toll. Footage shared by local activists showed dozens of bodies wrapped in white shrouds laid out in a cemetery, as an imam led prayers for mourning families. The deadly wave of attacks comes as indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel continue with no breakthrough, despite mounting international pressure for a ceasefire.

Israeli strikes kill 13 in Gaza school housing displaced families, medics say
CAIRO, May 7 (Reuters) - Israeli strikes on a school housing displaced families in northern Gaza killed 13 Palestinians on Wednesday, local health authorities said, as Israeli forces continued to demolish homes and buildings in Rafah in the south of the enclave. Medics said two strikes targeted the Karama School in Tuffah, a suburb of Gaza City. Among those killed was a local journalist, Nour Abdu, Palestinian media said. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army. Two Israeli airstrikes on another school, housing displaced people in central Gaza, killed at least 29 people, including women and children, on Tuesday, local health authorities said. The Israeli military said it struck "terrorists" operating from a command center in the compound. Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, said on Wednesday their fighters had detonated a pre-planted minefield targeting an Israeli armoured force east of Khan Younis. They said they inflicted casualties, followed by mortar shelling of the area. In the nearby area of Rafah, near the border with Egypt, residents and Hamas sources said Israeli forces, who have taken control of the city, continued to blow up and demolish houses and buildings. Israeli troops have already taken over an area amounting to around a third of Gaza, displacing the population and building watchtowers and surveillance posts on cleared ground the military has described as security zones. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday an expanded offensive against Hamas would be "intensive" after his security cabinet approved plans that may include seizing the entire Gaza Strip and controlling aid. Israeli officials have said Rafah could be used as a potential new humanitarian zone. The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostage, according to Israeli tallies. Israel's campaign has killed more than 52,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to Hamas-run health authorities, and reduced much of Gaza to ruins. The Hamas-run Gaza government media office said the death of Nour Abdu on Wednesday raised to 213 the number of Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli fire since the war began.
