COLEMAN, Texas (WJW) — A Texas woman is facing charges after authorities say she plotted to kill her ex-husband by sending him a box of chocolates laced with fentanyl. The Parker County Sheriff's Office initiated their investigation after a source alleged that 63-year-old Pamela Jean Stanley had wanted to kill her ex-husband, who had recently become engaged. Suspect arrested after 'American Idol' executive, her husband shot to death: Police Investigators said Stanley was recorded saying she wanted to buy and 'inject' fentanyl into a box of chocolates and send it to her ex. She also planned to make the chocolates appear as if they were a 'congratulatory gift' from a travel company, along with a honeymoon promotion, the sheriff's office said. Undercover agents with the office's Special Crimes Unit convinced Stanley to meet them to buy fentanyl in the parking lot of a motel in Coleman, Texas, the sheriff's office said. They took her into custody after the operation. Upon arrest, Stanley was also found to be in possession of 9.5 grams of methamphetamine. Stanley has since been indicted for 'criminal solicitation with intent to commit murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver,' according to the sheriff's office.

A Texas woman was indicted last week after investigators say she tried to kill her ex-husband with a box of fentanyl-laced chocolates mailed as a phony honeymoon gift. Pamela Jean Stanley, 63, of Coleman, was arrested on May 30 in Parker County following a sting by the Special Crimes Unit (SCU) of the Parker County Sheriff's Office. According to Sheriff Russ Authier, Stanley allegedly cooked up a plan to send her ex-husband poisoned chocolates disguised as a congratulatory present from a travel agency celebrating his recent engagement. Authorities say Stanley was recorded telling an acquaintance she wanted to inject powdered fentanyl into high-end chocolates and mail the box with a fake honeymoon incentive offer. Stanley was indicted July 10 on three felony charges: criminal solicitation with intent to commit murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Stanley was allegedly caught on tape talking to an acquaintance about injecting fentanyl into a box of 'high-end chocolates' she wanted delivered to her ex Jeffrey Kauth, 66, according to Sheriff Russ Authier. Stanley's alleged plan was for the contaminated chocolates to be part of a package from a travel agency, which also included a fake 'honeymoon' incentive offer. Stanley drove several hours to Coleman, Texas, where Kauth lives, and allegedly 'solicited the purchase of what she believed was fentanyl in the parking lot of a local Interstate motel from undercover investigators with the special crimes unit.' She was taken into custody immediately after the purchase. Investigators also allegedly found 9.5 g of methamphetamine in her possession. Stanley was indicted for criminal solicitation with intent to commit murder, criminal attempt to commit murder and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Kauth told The Independent that after he and Stanley split about five years ago, his ex allegedly 'tried to hire a hit man to assassinate me.' She had not been charged on those allegations, according to the outlet. 'I'm just fortunate that the hit man had a conscience and reached out to me,' Kauth said. 'I've spent pretty much the better part of a year-and-a-half with the lights off in the house, floodlights and cameras in the backyard. It's been an experience.'
