Haryana to introduce French in Sanskriti Model Schools
Gurgaon: The department of school education, Haryana, has announced a collaboration with the Embassy of France in India to introduce French as a foreign language in district Sanskriti Model Schools across the state starting from the upcoming academic session. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was between the school of education department, Panchkula and the French govt. This initiative is part of the Haryana-France language collaboration project and aligns with the vision of the national education policy (NEP) 2020. Regular TGT-English and PGT-English teachers currently serving in govt schools of Haryana are invited to participate. Prior exposure to French is preferred and selected teachers will receive a fully sponsored 6-month training in Institut Francais in India, located in New Delhi and will be deployed in district Sanskriti Model Schools to introduce French as a third language. A SCERT Haryana official said the move aims to compete with private schools. While the May 22, 2025 letter is confirmed, it hasn't been processed internally yet, leaving details like French teachers unclear. The directorate of school education has shared the information and nomination forms with SCERT Gurgaon, DIET principals, and district officers, asking them to inform eligible teachers before the deadline.

Banker resigns to fulfill dream, scales Everest
1 2 3 Panchkula : Such was his passion that a 58-year-old banker resigned from his job after not getting leave and spent Rs 40 lakh out of his provident fund to climb the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. Navdeep Sood , who returned to his Sector 25 house, was welcomed by residents and social organisations. "I am happy that I could climb the mountain. But at that point in time, there was a mixed bag of feelings as there were some who quit just 100 m away from the target or met with an accident. There were all sort of good and tough experiences," Sood told TOI. Before this, he climbed Mount Satopanth in Uttarakhand. Now, he plans to go on a cycling expedition on a world or India tour. He developed his interest in mountaineering when his father, who was in the Air Force, was posted in Meghalaya. The time spent in childhood in the mountains increased his interest. His wife, Sarita Sood, said he had full family support for Mount Everest. Mohit Gupta, founder of Solution Box, who welcomed him at his house, said, "If ever someone needs proof that age is just a number, then here is the proof. After retiring from a PSU bank, my friend achieved the unthinkable." MSID:: 121321681 413 |

Tricity limps back to normalcy, but with caution
As the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan came in on Saturday evening, the tricity administrations withdrew the blackout orders and other restrictions though residents continued to observe the blackout voluntarily through the night. Chandigarh deputy commissioner (DC) Nishant Kumar, in an order on Saturday evening, withdrew Friday's orders for 7 pm closure of shops and other commercial establishments. The restrictions were imposed in view of the armed confrontation with Pakistan on India's western borders, with reports that the neighbouring country had tried to target 15 military locations, including Chandigarh. As per the DC's fresh orders, all shops and establishments are now permitted to operate as usual. Residents in most sectors continued to observe a voluntary blackout with even the streetlights remaining off. Teams of the UT police too moved around the city in PCR vehicles, urging residents, through public announcements, to turn off the lights as a precautionary measure. As per information, a night reserve force was also activated in the city. In Mohali too, though the official blackout orders were withdrawn, residents continued to observe a blackout amid reports of ceasefire violations and drone sightings in Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Mohali deputy commissioner Komal Mittal, in an order, said that all prohibitory orders issued earlier stand withdrawn. A day before, the administration had ordered the closure of all cinema halls and shopping malls in the district from 8 pm to 6 am until further orders. On Saturday, Mittal said that the situation in Mohali is normal but advised the public to remain alert but not panic. 'Our teams are on alert and have preparations in place. In case of any imminent threat, warnings will be issued,' she said. The Panchkula administration too revoked the 7pm closure orders for shops but most business owners downed their shutters before norming closing time, as a precautionary measure. Vikas Manch, Panchkula, member Rakesh Aggarwal said many residents were seen voluntarily switching off lights at their homes, including parking lights. Very few shops were seen open after 9 pm, he added. PU entrance exams on Monday, semester exams from May 13 The Panjab University has announced that the common entrance exam (CET) for admission to undergraduate courses in the varsity will be held on Monday, and semester exams will take place as per the previously announced schedule from May 13.
