Diljit Dosanjh faces backlash over Hania Aamir casting in ‘Sardaar Ji 3', film body demands blacklist
Amid mounting backlash over Pakistani actor Hania Aamir's presence in Sardaar Ji 3, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has posted a cryptic message on Instagram. The post, titled 'Censored before release?', ostensibly referenced his unreleased film Panjab 95, which has faced prolonged delays due to objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but likely also reflected his response to the fresh debacle. Diljit's post comes just a day after the trailer for Sardaar Ji 3 was released, revealing Hania Aamir in a prominent role. The timing has added fuel to the ongoing controversy, as tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The trailer announcement also confirmed that the film will release overseas only on June 27. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a sharp condemnation of the film and its makers, including Dosanjh, directors Amar Hundal, and producers Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmor Sidhu. Calling the collaboration with Aamir an 'anti-national act,' FWICE demanded that the industry blacklist those involved and that the government revoke their Indian passports. PRESS RELEASE Date: 23rd June 2025 Issued by: All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) AICWA Condemns Inclusion of Pakistani Actress Hania Aamir in Sardar Ji 3 Calls for Boycott of Singer & Producer Diljit Dosanjh All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) strongly… — All Indian Cine Workers Association (@AICWAOfficial) June 23, 2025 In its official statement, FWICE accused the Sardaar Ji 3 team of defying an industry-wide ban on Pakistani artists and labelled Hania Aamir a 'vocal propagandist against India.' The body further urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take 'strict and immediate action' and framed the collaboration as a 'shameful betrayal' during a time of national mourning. Producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu responded to the backlash by clarifying that the film was completed before current hostilities escalated. 'We are not releasing the film in India, keeping in mind the present situation and the sentiments of India and the Indian people,' he said, adding that they would await a more appropriate time for a domestic release. Despite the storm, Diljit Dosanjh continues to promote Sardaar Ji 3 globally. The third installment of the popular Punjabi horror-comedy franchise features Diljit as a ghost hunter, alongside Hania Aamir, Neeru Bajwa, and others.

‘Censored before...': Diljit Dosanjh's cryptic post amid Sardaar Ji 3 row with Hania Aamir
As anticipation builds for Sardaar Ji 3, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh finds himself at the centre of controversy over Pakistani actor Hania Aamir's casting in the film. Amid growing chatter around the collaboration, especially in light of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, Dosanjh took to Instagram to post a cryptic message: 'Censored before release?' The post is being interpreted as a reference not to Sardaar Ji 3, but to his earlier film Panjab 95, which faced hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The biopic, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, remains unreleased in India after reportedly being subjected to 127 proposed cuts. Dosanjh and the filmmakers are said to have refused the edits, choosing instead to stand by the original cut of the film. The Instagram story reshared a review by film journalist Sunayana Suresh, praising Panjab 95 and highlighting its legal and moral implications. The timing of the post, however, has added fuel to the ongoing debate around his latest project. Diljit Dosanjh posted a cryptic post on Instagram Despite the noise, Dosanjh is pressing ahead with global promotions of Sardaar Ji 3, which is set to premiere overseas on June 27. The horror-comedy sees Dosanjh reprise his role as a quirky ghostbuster, with Hania Aamir and Neeru Bajwa as his co-leads. A theatrical release in India appears unlikely for now. Directed by Amar Hundal, the film also stars Manav Vij, Gulshan Grover, and Sapna Pabbi. The first two instalments in the Sardaar Ji franchise, released in 2015 and 2016 respectively, were commercial successes and helped cement Dosanjh's box office pull in Punjabi cinema. Meanwhile, Panjab 95, directed by Honey Trehan and produced by RSVP Movies, awaits clarity on its release in India. The film was pulled from the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival lineup without explanation and remains in regulatory limbo.

Diljit Dosanjh has sparked controversy over his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, which features several Pakistani actors including Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti and others. Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is facing massive backlash over his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3. The film features popular Pakistani actor Hania Aamir (as well as Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar and Saleem Albela), whose casting has stirred backlash in light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Amidst this, BN Tiwari, President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), has slammed Diljit for working with Hania, and demanded a complete ban on all his future projects. FWICE President condemned the collaboration, stating that he has hurt Indian sentiments. While speaking with Hindustan Times, he said, 'By working with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments. He has disrespected the sentiments of the nation and insulted the sacrifice of our brave soldiers. His preference for Pakistani talent over Indian artists raises serious questions about his loyalty and priorities. By collaborating with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments, disrespected the nation, and insulted the sacrifices of our brave soldiers," he said. FWICE President Calls For Strict Ban On Diljit Dosanjh's Upcoming Films He further added that while the film isn't releasing in India for now, any future plans to do so will be met with a ban. Currently, Sardaar Ji 3 is only releasing overseas. FWICE President added that Diljit working with a Pakistani actor is unacceptable, and that they are imposing a strict ban on all future films, songs, and projects involving him. 'We have called for a strict ban on all upcoming films, songs or any other sort of projects. We will also issue a formal letter on the same today. Along with Diljit, we have also called for a ban on the producers of the film regarding all their upcoming films," he said. BN Tiwari mentioned that they had previously reached out to the filmmakers for clarification but received no response. He stated that they had sent a letter but didn't get an answer, so they would proceed with the ban. Diljit Dosanjh's Upcoming Films Border 2, Panjab 95 In Trouble? While Sardaar Ji 3 is set for an overseas release on June 27 and is unlikely to hit Indian screens, the ripple effect could be significant. Diljit's upcoming patriotic action drama Border 2, could potentially face a FWICE-imposed boycott if the controversy continues. Another project starring Diljit, 'Panjab 95' – a biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra – has already faced multiple delays and CBFC hurdles, and may now encounter further challenges amid the growing backlash. On Sunday, Diljit released the film's trailer, which unveiled Hania's presence in the film. In the movie, Hania joins Diljit's character as a ghost hunter in the UK, with Neeru Bajwa also playing a romantic interest in this horror comedy. First Published:
