Jewellery worth Rs3L looted from Saran shop

Chhapra: Six armed and masked criminals looted jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in cash from a shop in Meetha Bazar at Hansrajpur under the Ekma police station area in Saran district on Monday. The criminals, riding on three motorcycles, stormed into the premises and opened fire, injuring the owner, Pankaj Verma. Pankaj sustained a bullet injury to his thigh and was admitted to a local hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger. An FIR has been lodged at Ekma police station in connection with the robbery. Saran range DIG Nilesh Kumar, SSP Kumar Ashish and SP (rural) Shikhar Choudhary visited the site and asked police officers to carry out raids to arrest those responsible. Police said two rounds were fired during the incident. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is also expected to assist in the investigation. Saran SSP Kumar Ashish said, "Although the miscreants have not been arrested so far, they have been identified and will be arrested soon." The incident has intensified concerns over rising crime in the district. Just days earlier, a shocking case of gang rape and strangulation of a minor girl studying in Class IV came to light in Jalalpur block. A few months prior, a similar armed robbery had taken place at a jewellery shop in Sahajitpur market under Baniapur block. In that case, police later succeeded in arresting the suspects. The recent spate of violent crimes has sparked public anxiety, raising urgent questions about the state of law and order in the region.
