AIADMK protests as police remove banners welcoming EPS
Trichy: Cadres of the AIADMK held a demonstration before the Srirangam police station on Tuesday, after the banners the party had erected to welcome party general secretary

Party cadres had put up the banners in Srirangam area. However, police removed them on the night of Aug 18, citing the Madras high court order and the risk of strong winds causing the banners to fall.
In response, around a hundred cadres led by former minister and AIADMK's suburban north district secretary M Paranjothi besieged the Srirangam police station, leading to tension in the area. Former minister S Valarmathi and former govt chief whip R Manoharan were also present.
Police pacified and held talks with them.
During the talks, police cited the high court's order banning digital banners. "Our party respects the court orders," Paranjothi said, agreeing to abide by them.
Speaking to reporters later, Paranjothi condemned the govt, and said, "The ruling party is unable to tolerate the overwhelming public support for our general secretary and is hence creating hindrances."
Paranjothi said the party had requested the police to cooperate and ensure the tour proceeds smoothly, and provide adequate security. He said, "Police had assured necessary protection for the event to ensure its smooth and successful conduct."
Palaniswami is visiting Trichy district to campaign in a total of nine assembly constituencies over from Aug 23 to 25 as part of his 'Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom' campaign.
