Nine essential capsule wardrobe pieces to pack in your carry-on this summer

You've got a carry-on bag, a long weekend and a ticket to somewhere unspeakably hot. The mission: to locate the nearest cocktail upon arrival (how many pins did you drop on Google Maps?) before cracking on with the time-bound itinerary in your phone's Notes app. That means no time to change or faff about what to wear. Consider it holiday essentialism—only that which is necessary will make the cut. Here's how. First, consider fabrics. Sweaty and sticky is not the vibe. Look to cotton and linen for maximum breathability and avoid synthetics where humanly possible. Next, think in terms of one-and-done pieces like dresses or jumpsuits that save time and interchangeable separates that save space. Both deserve equal billing. Never Fully Dressed's latest collaboration with Lisbon-based creator Caetana is a go-to for gunás. Playful palm trees and shell prints, ruffles and hand-beading add an extra dimension and makes that 10-minute quickie change for dinner a breeze. While you're at it, bung in one of Zara's boho finds and let the embroidery do the talking. They don't call them conversational prints for nothing. Plus, the drama saves on unnecessary accessories. Why bring jewellery when utility pieces like a bright raffia bag or decorative hardware on sandals do overtime? Let's not forget our layering pieces like a tank top or a crisp cropped shirt. Worn together or separately, these pair especially well with high-waist Bermudas or a linen skirt. Try COS, Parfois and & Other Stories for high street staples in natural fibres. Now go pack. You've got a plane to catch. Nine low-effort ways to wear soft stripes this summer

Sandy toes, seaside linen, and summer stripes. As style vibes go, this one's a classic. Well, sort of. There's a definite shift in mood and tone. Nautical lines feel cold. Deck chair tropes look overplayed. Shades of caramel, sage and light pink subjugate the bold and bright. In fact, anything that feels sharp or high-def warrants a filter. It's as if the fashion gods decided it's a soft life for stripes this season which must be why pyjama co-ords continue their trend domination. So, what can we expect? In aesthetic terms, comfort rules both fabric and silhouette. Roomy shirting is rivalled by puffy sleeve tops and quilted gilets – cushy and relaxed with laissez-faire string ties. For maximum ease, layer over a boxy tee and wear with an A-line or puff ball midi skirt with an elasticated waist, of course. Should tailoring be your north star, look to languid materials like satin in an unassuming palette (think Stine Goya's brown and sky blue or promote your matching set to something short and sweet as seen at Alberta Ferretti. Feeling playful? Pair mismatched stripes like diagonal with vertical styles, ensuring there's a colour throughline to keep you looking put together. Add off-duty accents like a slouchy cardigan, clogs or oversized suede bag. Just be sure to choose no more than two of these, so as not to confuse soft with sloppy. On those bare minimum days, consider a key piece like a striped polo or easy bandeau top for visual interest. Leave the rest to serendipity. Soft doesn't do effort, after all. The chic wardrobe staple all French women will be wearing with jeans this summer - and where to buy on the high street from £25.99

There's no wardrobe staple more effortlessly cool than the white button-down. Tucked into straight jeans with a pair of ballet pumps à la Parisiennes; untucked over barrel jeans and with a chunky knit slung casually over your shoulders for coffee runs on the weekend; or smartly tucked into tailored trousers for an office-approved fit. With some clever styling, a white shirt can be one of the hardest working pieces in your wardrobe. That said, a classic white button-down can sometimes be a little uninspiring, especially on days you're looking for something a bit more fun. That's where the white embroidered blouse comes in. Another French-girl summer staple, it's typically made from breathable cotton and features delicate floral designs and openwork detailing, offering a breezier alternative to a poplin shirt for the warm-weather season ahead. When it comes to wearing a white embroidered blouse, our advice would be to not overthink it: simply tuck it into your favourite pair of straight jeans (we've found the best pair on the high street and they're only £28), slip on some strappy sandals (perhaps these Parfois lookalikes) and grab your woven leather tote (this one from Anthropologie is about to the the It bag of the summer). If you're looking to lean into the boho vibe, style it with some 70s denim (we've got our eye on these flared jeans from John Lewis) and espadrilles (check out this pair from Penelope Chilvers); or go down the western route and opt for barrel jeans (this new style from M&S is bound to sell out) and cowboy mules (we've bookmarked this pair from Mint Velvet). Plenty of outfit inspiration to see you through the warmer months. So, scroll down for our edit of the best white white embroidered blouses to buy on the high street right now.
