Northop Hall have been getting on with things in the field!
Hall swept into pole position with their 118-run outcome against Parkfield Liscard last time out and victory at Prescot & Odyssey tomorrow is likely to keep them in first place. Whatever happens during the closing portion of the campaign, Ben Slater's side won't be hanging around! 'It's kind of we bowl our overs really quickly now,' said Slater, who hopes to have a strong side at his disposal tomorrow. 'Last week, we bowled 65 overs in three hours and 10 minutes - it's a bit of a tactic of ours.' Another top showing from James Hurlin (pictured above) will be on the wishlist. In the last triumph, he struck 83 with the bat and then took a superb 6-27. Hall Seconds host Old Xaverians Seconds while Chirk just can't catch a break in Shropshire League action. On a tough run of defeats, Chirk will target a change in fortune for tomorrow's Division One clash away to Quatt Seconds. In Division Seven, Chirk Seconds are at home to Quatt Thirds.

Hurlin is the star for new league leaders Northop Hall
Ben Slater's side made it a dozen triumphs for the summer courtesy of their comfortable 118-run outcome at home to Parkfield Liscard. Hall were in a spot of bother when they were reduced to 24 for three, but James Hurlin (83), Slater (51) and Carwyn Johnson (40 not out) helped them to 228 for six declared. Hurlin completed a fine all-round showing when it was the visitors' turn to bat. He snapped up six for 27 in Parkfield Liscard's 110. Chirk's tricky run in the Shropshire League continued with their 37-run Division One loss at home to Shifnal Seconds. The visitors were dismissed for 166 - and Chirk will have been disappointed to ship 45 extras. Liam Walker (4-46) and Luke Gardner (3-46) were the pick of the attack. James Carter (25) was the leading light in Chirk's 129 all out (Matt Denver 3-20).

Declarations of intent shown by ambitious Northop Hall
Hall, who could go top of Division Two tomorrow with victory at home to Parkfield Liscard, have had plenty to declare of late. Skipper Ben Slater declared after 50 overs of last week's thumping 124-run win at St Helens Town, while 49 overs were completed when Hall called time on their innings in a 113-run triumph versus Norley Hall. Slater admitted: 'It's one of those. You have got to give yourself enough chance to win the game. 'You have got to be brave to try and win a league.' Plaudits must go to Hall's three frontline bowlers for helping the promotion push, with Paul Jenkins claiming 10 wickets in the last two weeks. Five apiece have gone the way of Carwyn Johnson and James Hurlin, but there remain other options should Hall require them, in the shape of the likes of Andrew Watkin, Matteo Evans-Ford and Jac Kennedy to name but a few. Looking ahead to tomorrow's match-up, Slater added: 'They're a good team and they have got some potentially explosive batsmen up the order. With the spinners we have got, they are very experienced.' It's a three-way battle between Hall, Ainsdale and Caldy for the promotion places - and the latter pair meet each other in a huge encounter tomorrow. 'There's eight games left now. If we win all eight, we go up,' said Slater, whose side are level on points with Ainsdale at the head of the rankings. 'We've just got to keep trying to win every game.' Northop Hall Seconds are on their travels tomorrow to take on Liverpool Seconds. It's been a testing month for Chirk in Shropshire League action. Liam Walker's side have suffered five consecutive losses in Division One, but they will be aiming to bring this to a halt when they open August with tomorrow's home clash versus Shifnal Seconds. In Division Seven, Chirk Seconds are away to Guilsfield Seconds.
