2 charged after 4 guns, 2,000 rounds of ammunition stolen west of Edmonton

Two firearms seized by police in May. (Credit: RCMP) Charges have been laid after four guns and 2,000 rounds of ammunition were stolen along with a vehicle west of Edmonton. The vehicle was reported stolen to Parkland RCMP on May 19. It was later recovered without the guns. On May 29, police executed a search warrant in Edmonton and seized two stolen guns A 46-year-old woman was arrested and charged with: possession of weapons contrary to order; unauthorized possession of a firearm; unsafe storage of a firearm; possession of a weapon obtained by crime; possession of stolen property over $5,000; and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. A 35-year-old man was arrested several days later and charged with: unsafe storage of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; and possession of stolen property over $5,000. The woman has a court date of July 29 in Stony Plain. The next court date for the man is pending.

Alberta senior charged with defrauding victims of $5M after 7 year investigation

A Sherwood Park senior has been charged with fraud after police say he took $5 million from victims as part of an investment scam. The original fraud complaint was received by Parkland RCMP in July 2018. Police say Allan Magneson, 86, approached local professionals for an investment. Investigators say the funds were diverted for personal use and there was no return to the investors. As part of a seven-year investigation, Mounties were able to identify multiple victims. On May 13, Magneson turned himself into Sherwood Park RCMP. He has been charged with five counts of fraud over $5,000 and laundering the proceeds of crime. He has been released from custody and will appear in court in Sherwood Park on June 25.
