Libyan MP demands probe into Al-Dersi video

A member of the Libyan Parliament has strongly condemned what he describes as 'humiliating' images circulating of fellow lawmaker Ibrahim Al-Dersi, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
MP Khalifa Al-Daghari stated during a tribal gathering on Friday that the widely shared footage represents 'humiliation and insult' to Parliament, the Al-Dersi tribe, and the lawmaker's family. He criticised authorities handling the case as 'cowardly and incapable' of revealing the truth about the situation.
'I have discussed this serious matter directly with Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh,' Al-Daghari said, urging both civilian and military authorities, including prosecutors, to launch a comprehensive investigation.
The parliamentarian warned that if Libyan authorities fail to uncover the facts surrounding the case, 'resorting to international courts becomes an option' as they would be 'capable of uncovering the truth and the circumstances of the case.'
Prime Minister Osama Hammad of the Parliamentary Government previously met with tribal leaders and elders from the Al-Dersi tribe, assuring them that investigations into the lawmaker's alleged kidnapping are proceeding 'with utmost seriousness,' particularly following the circulation of video clips allegedly featuring Al-Dersi.
According to the Prime Minister, security services are working to verify the authenticity of the videos and determine their source. Hammad pledged that ongoing measures would 'strengthen investigations, identify perpetrators, bring them to justice, and prevent them from escaping punishment.'
