HYBE is coming to India: New subsidiary to open in second half of 2025
K-pop's biggest powerhouse is setting its sights on one of the world's most vibrant and untapped music markets- India. On June 30, HYBE officially announced its plans to establish a subsidiary in India, with operations expected to kick off as early as September or October a statement, HYBE confirmed to the media, 'We are currently conducting local market research and handling the practicalities of setting up the corporation, with the goal of launching around September or October.'advertisementThe move is part of Chairman Bang Si Hyuk's bold 'multi-home, multi-genre' global strategy, a vision aimed at localising the K-pop methodology to different cultural markets. This means building artist development and production systems within local regions while preserving the foundational elements that have made K-pop a global sensation: rigorous training, storytelling, and fan-centric engagement. Why India? With a population of over 1.4 billion and a digitally savvy youth demographic, India represents a significant growth opportunity for global music labels. For HYBE, the Indian subsidiary isn't just another overseas branch, it's a strategic expansion designed to root K-pop's production expertise in one of the world's fastest-growing entertainment Bang Si Hyuk, who is personally overseeing this expansion, believes in adapting to the pulse of regional markets rather than replicating a one-size-fits-all model. India, with its diverse linguistic and musical heritage, offers fertile ground for genre-bending innovation and potential cross-cultural approach in India is not without precedent. In the U.S., HYBE America's girl group KATSEYE has already made waves, entering the Billboard Hot 100 less than a year after their in South America, HYBE Latin America was launched in late 2023 and is quickly gaining momentum. Two major artist discovery projects are already underway. Pase a la Fama, a band audition program created in partnership with Mexico's Telemundo, has become a local favorite. Meanwhile, a new audition project is preparing to select and train a Latin boy group—once again using the K-pop model of training, mentorship, and narrative-driven fandom building.A HYBE spokesperson said, 'The strategy of establishing footholds in major global music markets and applying this methodology is already producing results. It is predicted that if this trend continues, the landscape of the global music industry—currently dominated by the so-called global 'Big Three' businesses—will undergo a significant transformation.'HYBE's entry into India could potentially reshape the country's music ecosystem. With Indian pop (or I-pop) slowly finding its footing and Korean culture enjoying massive popularity amongst Gen Z, a localised approach to K-pop could lead to the rise of India-based global music idols trained in the K-pop mould but rooted in Indian remains to be seen is how HYBE will tailor its method to reflect India's cultural nuances. Will we see an Indian pop group with multilingual releases? A reality survival show in partnership with a major Indian broadcaster? Or perhaps the launch of HYBE India's own idol training system right in Mumbai or Delhi?- Ends

BTS and TXT's label HYBE confirms plan to establish subsidiary in India: Check launch details, reason for new venture, more
South Korea's entertainment behemoth HYBE has revealed plans to establish a subsidiary in India by the latter half of 2025. The label is home to global stars BTS, SEVENTEEN, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), KATSEYE, among others. It shared that groundwork is already underway for the expansion. On June 30, the company announced that it has begun conducting in-depth market research. It is handling the legal processes needed to launch a fully operational Indian entity. The official rollout is being targeted for September or October this year. Bang Si Hyuk's strategic vision HYBE 's decision to enter India is part of a broader long-term strategy devised by founder and Chairman Bang Si Hyuk. Known as the 'Multi-home, Multi-genre' model, the blueprint focuses on developing localized music ecosystems. It also leverages HYBE's proven artist development infrastructure and training systems, which have been refined through K-pop's global success. Rather than simply exporting Korean pop music, Bang Si Hyuk envisions building from the ground up in each key market. His approach focuses on developing native talent and reflecting regional cultures. This approach not only helps tailor content to local tastes but also allows for more authentic engagement with audiences. Chairman Bang is reportedly overseeing the Indian expansion himself. Why India? With a population exceeding 1.4 billion and a music-loving youth demographic, India stands as one of the world's most attractive yet underdeveloped music markets. Over the past few years, K-pop fandom in the country has surged. Indian fans are becoming increasingly visible in global online conversations and streaming numbers. Despite this, no major K-pop label has attempted a full-scale, localized operation in India, until now. By entering India with a dedicated subsidiary, HYBE is aiming to not only ride the K-pop wave but also cultivate a homegrown version of it. The HYBE formula abroad India is not HYBE's first attempt at tailoring K-pop's core framework to foreign markets. The company has already seen tangible results through similar expansions in other parts of the world, most notably in the United States and Latin America. In the U.S., HYBE America has gained attention with its girl group KATSEYE. It debuted through a survival program and has already entered the Billboard Hot 100 less than a year into their career. In Latin America, HYBE launched operations in the second half of 2023 and is now executing two major artist development projects. The first is a reality audition show, Pase a la Fama, produced in partnership with Mexico's leading broadcaster, Telemundo. The second project involves a large-scale audition for a Latin boy group. In it, participants will similarly undergo professional training and mentorship. What's next for HYBE India? Many details are still under wraps, including where the headquarters will be located and what types of talent programs are being planned. But it is clear that HYBE intends to replicate its proven strategy: launch locally, train rigorously, produce globally. Whether HYBE will launch a new audition program in India, scout from existing talent pools, or collaborate with Indian production houses remains to be seen.

Ana Bárbara, Adriel Favela & Horacio Palencia Hope ‘Pase a la Fama' Gives Mexican Music ‘A Different Level of Visibility'
Pase a la Fama, Telemundo's new television series, is set to premiere on Sunday, June 8 featuring a star-studded panel of judges — Ana Bárbara, Adriel Favela and Horacio Palencia — and original music produced by Latin Grammy-winning hitmaker Edgar Barrera. During the show, participants will compete in a bootcamp-like setting where they will 'train, perform and face challenges,' according to a press statement, vying for a $100,000 prize, a record deal with HYBE Latin America and crowned the next regional Mexican band, which will comprised of five participants. 'I personally feel moved, excited, thrilled and I think it will be a great project.' The judges will be meticulous about who they choose as finalists. They must have 'discipline and respect for the audience and us as judges, all of those are ingredients that for me are very, very important,' Palencia says. 'In fact, I tell the new generation that, for me, discipline is actually even more important than talent, because sometimes it doesn't matter to have talent if you don't have discipline.' So, what were the main qualities the judges looked for? 'It's a band and, at the end of the day, I believe that there are many components that contribute to what brings success to a career,' Palencia adds. 'The [right] attitude, preparation and how they accept more than just criticism, but the constructive advice we give them,' Palencia adds. 'I believe that the winning band will genuinely work towards achieving all of those characteristics.' The show is set to premiere at a time when some música mexicana artists are facing bans in Mexico (if they sing narcocorridos in certain public settings) or visa delays and revocations in the United States. 'I had no idea that all of this could happen, which is both delicate and strong, yet sensitive, and definitely very sad,' Ana Bárbara says. 'Because it affects all of us in some way, it has an impact. We all admire the music of someone who is having problems for various reasons, beyond whatever the reason may be. This show will provide [Mexican] music with a different level of visibility.' The judges will also focus on emphasizing 'clean song lyrics and about love stories,' Favela says. 'It is nice to realize that music is giving us a chance to go beyond the musical aspect. To see our individual values, to see young people singing themes that, nowadays, I dare to say, are being lost, perhaps more and more. And that there is validity in rescuing all of this, which at the end of the day is the pure root of our Mexican essence.' It was previously announced that Lupillo Rivera, Fuerza Regida's JOP and Gabito Ballestero's will join the show as mentors. The first episode of Pase a la Fama will premiere Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on Telemundo. Everything ROSÉ, LISA, JENNIE & JISOO Have Said About BLACKPINK's Upcoming Reunion
Over the past two-ish years, BLINKs have definitely missed seeing their favorite lovesick girls together. But this summer, the ladies of BLACKPINK will finally be a unit once more, with ROSÉ, LISA, JENNIE and JISOO set to return with a world tour and new music after taking time off to pursue solo projects. More from Billboard Beyoncé Effortlessly Handles a Wardrobe Mishap During Her Cowboy Carter London Show Ana Bárbara, Adriel Favela & Horacio Palencia Hope 'Pase a la Fama' Gives Mexican Music 'A Different Level of Visibility' The Funeral Portrait Nabs Second Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 With 'Holy Water' And, much like their fans, the foursome has been open about their excitement surrounding their pending comeback. Though details of just how and when it would happen remained hazy for many months during their time apart, it was finally announced in February that BLACKPINK would hit the road as a band for the first time since 2022-2023's Born Pink World Tour, embarking on a run of stadium dates kicking off July 5 in Goyang, South Korea. As that first show has gotten closer, a couple of the women have also dropped hints about new music in the works, with the K-pop girl group last releasing an album — Billboard 200-topper Born Pink — in October 2022. But, despite their eagerness to get back together, the BLACKPINK members have also talked about how important it was for each of them to take time for themselves. During which, ROSÉ, LISA and JENNIE all released debut solo albums — Rosie, Alter Ego and Ruby, respectively — each climbing to the top 10 of the Billboard 200, while JISOO dropped a solo EP titled Amortage and focused on acting projects. As a result, each member has something new to bring to their group dynamic, and fans will finally get to see that in action very soon. While we wait for the big day, keep reading to see everything the foursome has said about reuniting — from getting back in the studio together to joining forces on stage again — below. In her Billboard cover story, Lisa told writer Nolan Feeney that she's basically counting down the days until she gets to work with her bandmates again. 'I can't wait,' she said at the time. 'We know each other so well and know how much energy we have to put into every single project,' she continued. 'So we want to support and say, 'You did really well!' Like, JENNIE and Rosie just released their own songs, and we're on texts, we're on FaceTime. They're like family. I'm just so happy that they're releasing something. This is what we all wanted to do, so I just wanted to say that I really do love their songs.' In a candid conversation with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe, ROSÉ said that she felt a lot of 'pressure' on making their time apart count. 'As BLACKPINK, as mature as we are, we got together and decided, 'Let's promise ourselves a good year to be inspired,'' she explained. 'The first thing that happened was anxiety, because I was privileged to have this one year in my hands to do whatever I wanted with it, but I wanted it to be the right decision and it had to feel right …,' she continued. 'What if I don't believe in my thing? And what if I'm in a place where I'm having to do things that I don't feel like it's me?' Noting that she and her bandmates are always in touch via group chat, JENNIE told Billboard deputy editor Lyndsey Havens in her January 2025 cover story that she's 'missed the girls.' 'I've missed doing tours with them. I miss our silly moments,' she elaborated. 'I'm excited to see what everyone brings. You know, everyone took their own journey [during] this time, and I'm excited to share that with the girls. I want to say it's going to be the most powerful [versions] of ourselves that anyone has seen.' Speaking to Billboard to celebrate the release of Amortage, JISOO said that she and her bandmates were in communication about their hopes for their reunion. 'Last year, as each member focused on individual activities, we all grew a lot,' she said at the time. 'Now, as we come together for this year, I feel like we'll be able to return with an even bigger and more spectacular presence.' 'Everyone's excited about it, and we've been sharing ideas,' she added. 'We've already done a lot of preparations for this year.' In an interview with The Cut, ROSÉ laid out her band's musical plans plainly: 'We will be coming out with new music soon,' she told the publication. 'We just knew there was no reason for us to stop it, right?' the 'APT.' singer added. 'As much as we all needed some time to go out and explore and be our own people, we still have business left to do. We've got to do some more damage.' When pressed for BLACKPINK tour spoilers during an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, JENNIE was tight-lipped. 'I can't say anything!' she said before confessing, 'There's still so much to do for us to make this happen.' 'It's coming — it's coming, guys,' added the star. In an interview with Variety, LISA revealed that she and her bandmates had been 'in the studio a few days ago,' noting, 'We're all so super excited to get back together and go on tour.' 'We really miss the BLINKs,' added the White Lotus star. 'We can't wait to see them.'
