General elections are on Tuesday. See who's running in your MS Coast city

Voters in most Mississippi Coast cities will elect another round of new leaders next Tuesday, ending a busy election season that has already ousted some incumbents and led to tight party runoffs across the region. The general elections will decide mayor's races in Gulfport, Biloxi, Gautier and Moss Point. City council and board of alderman candidates are also on ballots in several cities. The elections follow party primaries and runoffs this spring. The most contentious race may come in Gulfport, where attorney Hugh Keating, a Republican, and former state Rep. Sonya Williams Barnes, a Democrat, are running for mayor. The race is attracting some attention from national political leaders. Stacey Abrams, a Democrat who in 2018 nearly defeated Georgia's Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, has contributed to Barnes' campaign and said Gulfport would be 'well-served' by her leadership. Keating is advertising a rally this week with Sen. Tim Scott, a Republican of South Carolina who campaigned for President Donald Trump and was once floated as his possible running mate. In Biloxi, Incumbent Mayor Andrew 'FoFo' Gilich is facing Andy Linville, an Independent, and Farren Santibanez, a Libertarian. Linville has worked in the healthcare and real estate businesses, and Farren Santibanez is a sixth generation Biloxi resident. Voters in Gautier will decide between Incumbent Mayor Casey Vaughan, an Independent, and Phil Torjusen, a Republican who served one term as mayor before Vaughan defeated him four years ago. Moss Point's Incumbent Mayor Billy Knight Sr. is facing Richard McBride, a Republican who also ran for mayor in 2017 and 2021. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 3. Mississippi woman arrested in Daphne after stealing cars, injuring 2 corrections officers: DPD

DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Pass Christian, Miss., woman was arrested in Daphne after she broke into multiple cars, stealing three of them before injuring two corrections officers, according to the Daphne Police Department. Atmore man faces attempted murder charge, kidnapping after standoff and allegedly shooting at police According to a DPD news release, 40-year-old Katie Diana Brewer entered Daphne on Feb. 6 around 7 p.m. driving a stolen Jeep Wrangler. Brewer parked on Rand Avenue and allegedly broke into an unlocked Toyota Rav4 with the keys inside. She drove that vehicle to a business on Friendship Road, according to officials. Officials said when she got to the business on Friendship Road, Brewer dropped the Rav4 off and broke into an unlocked Cadillac Escalade that had the keys inside. Brewer then drove the Escalade to a Dollar General on Highway 181, where DPD officers said they found her inside of it. Officers were able to find Brewer because the Escalade owner tracked the vehicle through an app on their phone and notified DPD. DPD officials said Brewer was arrested and charged with two counts of felony theft of property and unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle. The unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle charge came from Brewer entering an unlocked Ford pickup at the store before officers arrived, according to officials. After she was booked into the Daphne City Jail, officials said Brewer 'attacked and injured' two female corrections officers. She received two additional charges for second-degree felony assault before being transferred to Baldwin County Corrections. UPDATE: 5 people arrested during FBI immigration enforcement raid 'The Jeep was later determined stolen from Jackson, MS, the keys obtained during a home burglary,' read the release. She was given a $45,000 bond. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
