Dhirendra Brahmachari's ashram land row: Punjab & Haryana HC gives interim bail to ailing accused Pathania
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted interim bail to 78-year-old Kashmir Singh Pathania, an elected member of the Aparna Ashram Society, in the high-profile land fraud case involving a property once owned by yoga guru Dhirendra Brahmachari. The court cited Pathania's deteriorating health, including suspected lung cancer with possible brain spread, as grounds for the six-week relief. The order was passed on Monday by Justice Alok Jain, who noted that the petitioner required urgent medical procedures, including a bronchoscope-guided biopsy, which could not be conducted in jail. Pathania, who was arrested on March 30, 2024, has been directed to surrender by 5 pm on July 14. His medical report is to be submitted on July 7, when the matter will be taken up again for possible extension of bail. 'A perusal of the above clearly demonstrates that the petitioner is suffering from carcinoma lung with suspected brain metastasis — which in layman's terms is the spread of cancerous cells from the lungs to the brain,' the court observed. The interim bail was granted after a report submitted by the superintendent of Gurgaon district jail confirmed the need for specialised treatment beyond what the prison hospital could provide. Pathania was represented by senior advocate Bipan Ghai along with advocates Brajesh Kumar Ghai and Nikhil Ghai. The state, represented by Deputy Advocate-General Gaurav Bansal, did not oppose the plea in view of Pathania's condition. It was on June 2, 2024, that an FIR was registered at the sector 40 police station, Gurgaon, accusing Pathania and others, including Subhash Dutt and Radox Tradex Pvt Ltd, of fraudulently executing a sale deed for 192 kanal 16 marla of land on December 24, 2020. The land was originally purchased by Brahmachari for his Aparna Ashram, where he ran a yoga centre. According to the complaint, the sale was carried out even after the then deputy commissioner, Amit Khatri, withdrew permission. The transaction involved 29 cheques totalling Rs 55 crore. Pathania and his co-accused argued that the sale was legal and backed by a society resolution dated December 17, 2020, and an order by the Registrar of Societies on December 4, 2020, recognising Pathania's authority. They claimed that the FIR stemmed from a property dispute being wrongly framed as criminal misconduct and alleged that individuals like Laxman Chaudhury were attempting to take over the society. Legal proceedings before the Delhi High Court and a dismissed contempt plea in the Punjab and Haryana High Court had previously upheld the society's decisions, strengthening Pathania's defence. However, multiple lower courts denied him bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations. Pathania, who also underwent a hip replacement, has reportedly been in poor health since his arrest. His legal team pressed for medical relief, which the court has allowed. The case will next be heard on July 7, when the court will review Pathania's medical condition to decide on further relief.

Last Updated: RS Pathania, BJP MLA from Udhampur East, denied allegations of making disparaging remarks about the Indian Air Force, claiming the video showing the comments was "morphed." The Congress party on Friday announced plans to file a legal complaint against a Jammu and Kashmir BJP MLA for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Indian Armed Forces and Operation Sindoor. RS Pathania, MLA from Udhampur East, denied allegations of making disparaging remarks about the Indian Air Force, claiming the video showing the comments was 'morphed." 'Disgraceful and unacceptable. BJP MLA Ranbir Pathania has insulted our armed forces by questioning their integrity during Operation Sindoor, saying they were 'sleeping" and calling them 'incompetent", said Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain in an X post. Disgraceful & unacceptable! @BJP4India MLA Ranbir Pathania has insulted our armed forces by questioning their integrity during Operation Sindoor, saying they were 'sleeping" & calling them 'incompetent".Such vile remarks are an insult to every soldier who risks their life for… — Dr Syed Naseer Hussain,MP Rajya Sabha (@NasirHussainINC) May 29, 2025 'Such vile remarks are an insult to every soldier who risks their life for the nation. This isn't an isolated case, BJP leaders have previously made similar offensive comments. Yet BJP remains silent," he added. The Congress MP demanded that the party must publicly apologise and immediately remove the MLA from his post, adding that if the BJP fails to take action, 'it would indicate that these remarks reflect the party's collective mindset." The clip led to sharp reactions, including condemnation from the J-K Congress, which termed the remarks 'disrespectful' and demanded an apology. 'During Operation Sindoor, everyone remembers what happened at the Air Force station. Either it was the fault of the incompetent ones, or these people must have been asleep." 'We were not at fault. We had placed them here with great respect, as if on our eyelids," Pathania is purportedly heard saying in the clip. Reacting to the backlash, Pathania released a video statement, asserting, 'I have not said anything against the armed forces. The clip is edited and morphed. Our legal team has taken action and filed an FIR against those responsible for spreading this misinformation." Pathania reaffirmed his support for the armed forces, stating, 'Bharat Mata ki Jai. Armed Forces ki Jai. Indian Air Force ki Jai. We are proud of our forces." BJP state president Sat Sharma backed Pathania, stating that his remarks were being misconstrued. 'I have spoken to Pathania ji. An FIR has already been registered in this regard," he told reporters. Watch India Pakistan Breaking News on CNN-News18. Himachal Pradesh deserves a separate regiment in Indian Armed Forces: HP Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 17 (ANI): The speaker of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, has advocated a separate regiment in the Indian Armed Forces. 'The people of Himachal Pradesh have made immense contributions to India's military efforts. It's time our state had its regiment in the Indian Armed Forces,' said Kuldeep Singh Pathania, while speaking with ANI in Shimla on Saturday. Pathania was speaking following the inauguration of a blood donation camp organised at the Himachal Pradesh Assembly complex by the Sports and Cultural Association. Praising the patriotic spirit and service ethos of the people of Himachal Pradesh, Pathania reiterated the long-standing demand for the formation of a separate regiment in the Indian Armed Forces exclusively for Himachali soldiers. 'Himachal Pradesh's Legacy of gallantry must be recognised with a dedicated regiment' Citing the historical and continued contributions of Himachali soldiers, Pathania said that the soldiers from Himachal Pradesh have proved in war and tough times in the Indian armed forces. 'Himachal Pradesh has always stood at the forefront during times of war and national crisis. Our soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice and won numerous gallantry awards from the Param Vir Chakra to the Vir Chakra and the Kirti Chakra. It is only fitting that the Indian Armed Forces establish a special regiment representing Himachal Pradesh.' He said. Pathania emphasised that soldiers from the hill state have consistently played a vital role, whether it was the 1962 war, the 1972 war, the Kargil conflict, or modern-day operations like Sindhur. He pointed out that Himachal is known as Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods), but it is also the land of valiant warriors who have tirelessly served the country. Acknowledging Operation Sindhur Pathania said that it was a testament to India's military prowess. In a detailed statement, Speaker Pathania lauded Operation Sindoor, a recent military success by Indian forces, calling it a clear demonstration of India's growing technological and strategic capabilities. 'Operation Sindoor has sent a strong message to the world's major military powers. Even countries like the United States, known for their advanced arsenal and military technology, have been effectively matched by India's armed forces. In fact, our capabilities are not just comparable but in many ways ahead,' said Pathania. 'The success of Operation Sindoor is a matter of pride for the entire nation, and especially for us in Himachal Pradesh. A brave soldier from my very own Assembly constituency laid down his life during this operation. His sacrifice is a reminder of the selfless service Himachali youth continue to render to the nation.' He added. Earlier in the day, Speaker Pathania inaugurated a blood donation camp on the Assembly premises, expressing his gratitude to the organisers and participants. 'I am happy that the Bharat Evam Cultural Association has organised this blood donation camp at the Assembly premises. Almost all our staff members have participated. Blood donation is the greatest form of service; it saves lives and is a deeply noble act,' he said. Pathania congratulated all the officers, employees, and organisational members who came forward for the cause. 'I hope this spirit of service continues. Through such acts, we serve society in a meaningful way.' Said Pathania. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania's strong advocacy for the Himachal Regiment reflects a broader sentiment in the state that its decades of military contribution deserve distinct recognition. As India continues to modernise its forces and celebrate regional pride, the proposal for a dedicated regiment representing Himachal Pradesh could gain further traction. (ANI)

Deputy chief whip Kewal Singh Pathania demands creation of Himalayan Regiment in Army for hill states
Shimla: legislator has renewed calls for the formation of a dedicated , alleging that the central govt continues to ignore the state's exceptional and legacy of sacrifice. Pathania, who is the deputy chief whip and represents Shahpur in the state assembly, said on Friday that despite the state's proud record — from Major Somnath Sharma, India's first Param Vir Chakra recipient, to Kargil hero Captain Vikram Batra — the Centre had yet to recognise the need for a regiment representing the hill states. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Himachal Pradesh is Veer Bhoomi," Pathania said. "Our soldiers have led from the front in every war — 1962, 1971, Kargil, and in counter-insurgency operations. But bravery should not be measured by population size." He criticised the reduction of quotas based on population, calling it unfair to states such as HP, which produce a high proportion of Army soldiers consistently despite being small in numbers. Pathania said he had also met with chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and requested him to take up the matter with the Centre. A dedicated regiment, he argued, would open new opportunities for youth in the region and harness their natural readiness for mountain warfare. Calling it a "humble but firm" appeal, the MLA also urged the Prime Minister and the defence minister to consider the "long-pending" demand for a Himalayan regiment seriously as a tribute to the state's unmatched military heritage.
