27-year-old man charged after 13 kg of suspected cocaine seized near Quebec border
A 27-year-old Ontario man was charged Friday after police seized 13 kilograms of suspected cocaine near the Quebec-Maine border.
Jequar Patrick Campbell-Chambers, of Hamilton, fled during a stop at the Coburn Gore border crossing in Maine, according to the RCMP. He was arrested several hours later in Saint-Augustin-de-Woburn, Que., following a search involving the Sûreté du Québec and the Beauce Integrated Border Enforcement Team.
The operation was launched after a tip from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Campbell-Chambers now faces four charges, including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and exporting cocaine.
He is due to appear by videoconference at the Lac-Mégantic courthouse later Friday afternoon.
The RCMP said Integrated Border Enforcement Teams target cross-border crimes such as human smuggling and contraband trafficking.
